There has been a talk about being drunk in the Spirit, and I wanted to get some others views on it. I will paste Acts 2 to see if you see what I have been shown.
Coming of the Holy Spirit
1When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Crowd’s Response
5And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”
13Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”
Peter’s Sermon
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,Your young men shall see visions,Your old men shall dream dreams.18And on My menservants and on My maidservantsI will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.19I will show wonders in heaven aboveAnd signs in the earth beneath:Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.20The sun shall be turned into darkness,And the moon into blood,Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.21And it shall come to pass. That whoever calls on the name of the Lord. Shall be saved.
So I underlined what was revealed to me. In the 3rd hour which is around 9 am according to the Jewish time division, they (the multitude and devout men from every nation) heard a mighty rushing wind. When the sound occurred two things happened.
The Holy Spirit gave the Galileans the gift of languages around the world, then the multitude and devout men from every nation (sorry I am repeating) were confused from the sound from the mighty wind that just happened and to see what was going on. Then they heard the Galileans speaking the wonderful works of God in the devout men from every nation's own native language. They all were amazed and perplexed with the scene, asking "what does this mean?"
Then you have people mocking them saying "they are full of new wine" Then Peter corrects the mockers saying they are not Drunk since it is only the third hour of the day which is around 9 am according to Jewish time division.
So my question is this: HOW can churches teach that people can get drunk in the Holy Spirit, when they were not drunk or acting drunk? It was the people that mocked them that said they were drunk. So the false teachers are teaching the sheep that the mockers were right? Which is it? Where they drunk with new wine or drunk in the Holy Spirit? Neither, because Peter clarified that by saying they are NOT drunk with NEW WINE.... Nor were they drunk with the HOLY SPIRIT as the false teachers are teaching.
All I can say is be careful in what you are taught, be like a Berean and test what the scriptures say daily. We are to test them by the fruits of their spirit. The two witnesses so to speak.
