Trials and Troubles more precious than gold

Ananias and Sapphira lied because...

A. they did not want to keep a portion of their money.
B. they did want to keep a portion of their money.
C. for no reason whatsoever.

They lied because they wanted others to think they gave all their portion of the sale of their property. It didn't matter if they offered none of it, anyway. But they wanted people to think they were more generous than they were. They didn't change their minds about it. They lied to the Holy Spirit by being givers to the Lord's work, but let their false sense of pride interfere with that pure gesture.

1. Haha, who would have thought the prosperity teachers would grab that one :giggle:.

There is plenty scripture that speaks of God financially blessing the Jews. But alas, we are not Jews.

2. Euphemia, if you believe God is good, died for you and is all powerful... do you think there is a need to hold / memorize promises? Shouldn't you 'just know'. Matt 6:26 = sarcasm for this reason.

God just GAVE HIS LIFE for me and I am going to HOLD HIM to deliver on X , Y and Z?

Why are you laughing? All scripture about God blessing His people, Jews or not---is true and to be appropriated.

Yes, we need to memorize the word and make ourselves aware of God's many promises to us.

Yes, the Lord Jesus laid down His life for us, and that gives us the privilege and right to claim all of God's promises to us. It's a tragedy that so many believers today are unaware of them and so do not receive them. What joy there is in the one who discovers a certain promise and claims it and receives it!

Point 1. Did they not melt it up into a calf to worship?

Read this about God's blessing to His peculiar people:

Deuteronomy 8:6-13
“So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him. 7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills. 8 It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey. 9 It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills. 10 When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful!

Point 2. Fully agree.

Good, glad you agree.

And the blessing God wants you to give is not necessarily money. It can be many things, we must remember this. We are all members of the body of Christ, but the body has many members, members have different qualities for different purposes.

God ALSO wants us to give financially to His work. You cannot separate out finances from the provision and blessing of God. He is the God of plenty, of abundance and He receives joy, as any good father does, to lavish His children with it.

Yes, this is very clear - God was sending the Israelites to a time of great abundance and riches, but as indicated, with that came even greater responsibility. This is clear.

Yea we know this but that is not the issue we are talking about

I'm sure the answer is no, but that was what Jesus told the disciples.
And therefor, such instruction is still valid today.

Brother Jesus told His disciples this that we know of ONE TIME. He was teaching them that they were working for Him and they could count on Him to take care of them. If this was the way God did everything today none of us would ever have to give to any one but then again there is a flip side to your statement as well.

Where did those things that Jesus supplied to His disciples come from ? Some one had to give.

Sister some people work hard at not allowing Gods word to manifest wisdomin them. There comes a time when you say.......well ok then you enjoy living that way and God bless you and move on.
Know what I mean?

KJ that is your problem........you think that people are just thinking things and making them up. The truth is, if you will spend quality time with the Father you would see that it is He who desires this...........

The Israelites were blessed materially but look what it got them. Jewish people are some of the richest ppl in the entire world but the most spiritually poor. Remember it was Jacob who STOLE the birthright blessing from Esau. Esau got blessed too...look at the Arab nations. Very wealthy.
Also, spiritually, a desert.

When Jesus came with his sermon on the mount, he turned their kingdoms upside down. He said those who were gonna inherit the earth are the meek. He watched ppl,put their offerings into the temple. He saw pharisees tithe their herbs, but he praised the widow and her mite. He said not to worry or be anxious about anything, but to seek the Kingdom and his righteousness FIRST and then everything will be added unto you. He said it was very hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle...and likened it to a rich man entering heaven.

When Jesus died, he did not have a cent to his name. Judas had stolen it, gamblers took his clothes, he did not have a house, he could not afford a burial. Another disciple offered his tomb. Note, he did not offer any money. Judas wanted to pay back what he got for betraying Jesus, but nobody would take it. It was blood money.

I would say, on the face of it, God doesnt particularly care for our money. There will be NO MONEY in heaven. So get used to it.

Hello Lanolin,
Your words are in black........
When Jesus came with his sermon on the mount, he turned their kingdoms upside down. He said those who were gonna inherit the earth are the meek. He watched ppl,put their offerings into the temple. He saw pharisees tithe their herbs, but he praised the widow and her mite.
You missed the entire lesson with this widow. She put in of her need or another words she put in ALL SHE HAD because she trusted God to give back unto her ALL THAT SHE NEEDED.
The others put in what they felt was cool out of their abundance or another words we wont miss this much. Now Lanoloin who do you think gave out of true trust in God ?

He said not to worry or be anxious about anything, He said it was very hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle...and likened it to a rich man entering heaven.
Be anxious for NOTHING BUT PRAY abouit EVERYTHING......this passage is telling us to not worry or fret but pray and bring your pettitions or request unto God and trust Him and His peace will gard and guide you. This is trusting God and doing things His way with out fear or worry.
but to seek the Kingdom and his righteousness FIRST and then everything will be added unto you.
He is telling us here to learn of His ways or how we should live and operate in our daily lives FIRST and thyen these other things wilol be added unto you. Another words place your energy and time on learning His was and to actually live His ways and not be all concerned or making your first or main priority seeking after the things you need. Simply trust Him and do what He has told us to do and He will see to it that you have these things you need.

Tis does not say sit back and half heartedly know some oif His word and God will give you everything you need. Nope because there is Kingdom process or Kingdom laws on how things work and this is the things we are to learn and do or live like.

He said it was very hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle...and likened it to a rich man entering heaven.

This means those who put money over everything or another words their money is more important to them will have a hard time entering into the kingdom or living as God has directed us to live. This is not a put down on a Christian haveing money.

Now the above is just some very strange thinking going on.
Yes Judas had takien the money bag but you do not know that there was nothing else any place else for you are simply making this up.

Jesus had a house. The house in Capernaum and if you notice they refer to it as Thee House because it belonged to Jesus. It was His home and base or another words where they worked from as well.

Yes a tomb was given for Him and it was a gift and to be able to get Jesus down off the cross and in a tomb before any problems arose. Funny thing here Lanolin, This tomb was from a rich man who had it built for himself. So it seems that having finances to have things and to be able to give paid of even when Jesus was on the cross.

Scriptures tell us Judas threw the money down and this was a sign of repenting...

Lanolin it is easy to see from ALL your post that youi have issues with large churches and preachers having money and think they steel money for them selves as greedy and so forth.
I do not fault you for this but I wouldlike you to see this......You have a closed MInd and Heart towards these things. Another words your mind is already made up and it is difficult for the Lord to show you anything other then what you feel is right because of this.

This area of your heart is gone Way Side.....you simply wont even tyake the time to consider it and this STOPS the Lord from giving you a Revelation in this area. Perhaps then if you wont consider honestly seeking God in this area you could please simply stop turning what I or any one else says on this subject into things that were not ever spoken.

Have a wonderful and blessed day Sister Lanolin.
I love you and have no aught against you. ; )
God Bless
Jim

God blesses with and without money. How great is His blessing and favour over His children!

Looking at Annas and Sapphira.
It is not just they lied. It was their heart condition. They thought they could bribe God with their money. They must have been really wealthy to think they already gave so much and could keep a little back for themselves. They thought by copying what Barnabas did, in appearance they could have the same blessing.
But Peter asked them the $64 million dollar question. How is it that you agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?

The lesson in this is you cannot bribe God. All the people who sold their possessions where sharing what they sold with each other. it was not just...they gave it all to the apostles. It was every man. So why did annas and sapphira keep some back for themselves when it was all going to be shared anyway?

Later in book of Acts chapter 8 Simon the sorcerer tries to buy the holy spirit off Peter. What does Peter say?

Further along the book of Acts. People burned their occult books. The cost of these books is recorded. chapter 19. no money was taken.

Chapter 21. Paul was leaving for Ephesus. What does he say in verse 33?
