Do you believe John MacArthur is correct?

  1. YES! Churches that celebrate what God condemns as an immoral sin are apostate! And wrong!

  2. NO! Jesus told us to love our neighbor. How can we refuse to celebrate love?

From a primary word μῖσος misos (hatred); to detest (especially to persecute); by extension to love less: - hate (-ful).

  2. Your preferring to argue that Jesus hates falls flat.

And your hostility actually leaves a nasty taste in my mouth reading it word for word.
You worship the entity you believe tells people to hate! Define hate as you wish, ignore the historic exegesis reality of scripture, that you're reading in English and that originated in Greek, for all that means to translation, (That I have not a thing to do with) and be happy. K? :D

Next? Please members here lets keep this thread civil. I hope others join this discussion.
Yes, that's an appeal to the reasonable.

  3. Hate, by extension, is not love of a lesser degree. No where in logic or scripture can that claim be made, except for the ad hoc sake of trying to prove the lie that God loves everyone.

It is where the words of Jesus are concerned. He didn't tell us to hate our families. He told us to love God to such a degree that the love we have for them is tantamount to hate BY COMPARISON.

Do you think we are to hate people?

  5. 1 John 4:7-21

  6. Indeed, he does, and that's he will throw people into Hell, including your family. But, I won't lose any loved ones.

What historical exegesis? Making stuff up? How come the translators of the Bible you hold in your hand didn't follow historical exegesis when translating Luke 14:26? How hypticial of you people who appeal to authority to reject words of the leading authorities (e.g. the most respected Bible translations and lexicons).

A real argument would be to find a place in scripture where "hate" is defined by the context as "love less". As there is no example, a hypothetical example is, "You must μισεῖ your family for you cannot love your family more than you love me and be my disciple."

  7. Luke 14:26 Amplified Bible
26 If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his [own] father and mother [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God] and [likewise] his wife and children and brothers and sisters—[yes] and even his own life also—he cannot be My disciple.

  8. I shall pray for you for you are clearly in pain. May you find your way to Jesus while there is still time in your life. Amen. [IMG]

  9. What God says is right! What we think is wrong when it conflicts with God's Word. It is just that simple!

There is no such thing as a Homosexual Christian IMHO!

  10. As for your 1 st comment.........
Yea......there are a bunch of us that are like that. You could also include Dr. Magee!

For the 2nd.........Agreed! Dr. Magee would turn over in his grave if he knew what was going on today.

  11. You do realize that Luke 14:26 is a command that has to be interpreted in a comparative manner. Christ meant that we must place Him above all other relationships to be a disciple of His. He must be Lord of all or He is not Lord at all.

  12. I'll ask as well:

Where is it written in scripture?

    Verse please.

  13. PCUSA was an apostate denomination long before it blessed sodomy. The blessing of sodomy is just the smoking gun. If leftwing judges hadn't make same-sex marriage the law of the land, PCUSA wouldn't have told their pastors to marry same-sex couples, but the denomination would still be the same apostate organization.

There are many denominations not far behind PCUSA in apostasy. In the near future, as more churches that belong to the prince of this world get use to idea, they will support, or at least wink at, same-sex marriage. Just like many of them now wink at remarriage and cohabitation. Whatever the world loves they love, whatever the world hates they hate, because they belong to the world, not to God.

  14. Matthew 10:37 He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

I think it is obvious to those who love Christ as to what is meant in the scripture. While those opposed to the truth of his words rebel against instruction. And that even is as God wills.

Ezekiel 12:2: Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.

  15. You should read the context of that verse. Jesus said he came to bring the sword and to turn a man against his family, that his family are his enemies. Do you want to make up a new definition for "set against"? The greek word means, "to cut into two parts, cleave asunder, sever".

Yes, we are to love Jesus more than our family, and hating our family accomplishes that to the utmost.

The truth is hidden from those who belong to their world. Their theology is secular humanism, not God's word.

  16. You, sir, miss the entire context of the verse, and you have been shown repeatedly but reject it in favour of your own interpretation, which is at odds with the Lord. Do yourself a favour and don't mention to anyone what you've said about hating our families. It will drive people away, or drive you out of the church you go to.

  17. Drive people away from what? America and western Europe have the most anti-Christian cultures in the world. And, that's because the churches have abandoned God's word, for anything more than pretext, and have become useless.

  18. Your rigid legalism will move people away from the churches that actually do welcome all people to come in and discover Jesus Christ.

  19. I think we have to ask ourselves why someone would argue so vehemently to defend their errant notion, dismissing the education afforded so as to correct their ignorance on that matter, that Jesus commanded us to hate.
When Jesus told us God is love and that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Why would someone argue that we must hate our family in order to follow and love him?
And if that individual calls themselves a Christian, is that something they do? In order to be that follower they believe Jesus wants them to be?

Terribly sad to think the answer would be, yes. :(
I stopped reading the one poster who continues to argue Jesus commanded us to hate, in the context of the English meaning of "hate", awhile ago. I wanted to interject this since I see Euphemia still trying to deliver instruction on the correct scriptures .

  20. I think we must ask ourselves why someone would argue so vehemently against a straightforward acceptance of what Jesus said, dismissing the Political Correct spin. You reject what Jesus said.

I believe Jesus, you believe the Politically Correctness of the world. Jesus asked who is your neighbor, the priest, a levite or the samaritan. The answer is the samaritan. You reject the answer given in scripture.

I accept the context of "hate" found in scripture. We are to hate that is what is of this world, but you would rather hate this servant of God and love the lies of this world.
