Hebrews 9:22 ESV
[22] Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Leviticus 17:11 ESV
[11] For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.
Why is a death needful for the forgiveness of sins? Why couldn't God just give a warm hug and tell the world, "I know you have transgressed me but I want your fellowship and worship so bad, that I now forgive you"?
IOW, why did Jesus have to shed His blood unto death?
