  1. Somehow I just do not hear Jesus saying that to His Father when He was hanging on the cross. Oh come on Father, is all this that is happening going to bring any good to anything? ..........

As He is so are we in this world....

  2. Oh wow "if need be" sure does apply. When we fail to obey and submit to the Word over and over, the Lord sure will bring affliction IF that is the only thing that will get our attention! ...if need be!

  4. Really Jim??? Can you then expound on Romans 8:28.........
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose".

  5. Let's list the ad hominem in this remark:

    1. "You get bent so easily".
    2. "I try to make it simple for you to understand."

These are directed at me personally, ergo they are ad hominem. I can go get a link defining this if you'd like.

Your first premise is of course disputable and subjective; it is not an established fact.
Your second premise is condescending, not because I "get bent so easily" but because it would be condescending no matter who you said it to. It implies stupidity.

The reason I have to be so formal and technical is because YOU get bent so easily. (Would you agree that this is ad hominem now?)

Now you'll have to explain to me, in really small words because I'm apparently stupid, what it is you need explained. "In all this, Job did not sin" is really simple and clear, as is the definition of ad hominem.
  6. Jim, come on now! How many Scriptures do you require my brother?

The Bible tells us that just as human fathers lovingly discipline their children, so God disciplines all who belong to Him:

    Heb. 12:5-6....
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by Him. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives”.

In fact, the Bible goes even further by saying that if God does not discipline us then we are not truly His children.

Heb 12:8........ “God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in His holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

    Psalms 110:67, 71, 75..........
“before I was afflicted, I went astray but now I keep Your word… it is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your word… in faithfulness You have afflicted me” .

Sometimes our sin may not even be something that the world considers to be bad. It may be placing something or someone above God which is idolatry. But whatever the sin, God has many ways to discipline us such as sickness, famine, failure, disasters, the government, friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, unjust treatment, etc. In the Old Testament, God sometimes used even wicked nations to punish Israel when they rebelled against Him.

Sometimes our suffering flows as a direct consequence of our own sin and at other times God may bring it indirectly.
  7. Amen sister!

How many people has God had to lay flat of their back just to get them to look up and talk to Him?????

  8. I agree with you Lee but we also know that making a sacrifice does not make one sinless. It makes them "obedient".
  9. Philippians 1:29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; Most Christians ask the question, “Why do we have to suffer, seeing as how Christ has already suffered? There seems to be no purpose for saints to suffer.” This is the typical mind of those who follow popular doctrines and not according to the knowledge of God. It is easier to follow the popular doctrines in the Body today that say that “We are the head and not the tail. Everywhere our feet shall trod, we shall be victorious….” It sounds good and appeals to the flesh but we are surrounded by saints who are suffering everyday! They are not the head! In fact their lives are full of (what could be labeled as) worldly defeat, a lot of empty promises and a disappointment in their salvation.

    II Thessalonians 1:3-5 3
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; 4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer?

Suffering is the test that reveals the true commitment of the saints to the Word of God.

    Hebrews 5:8-9 8

    Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

    I Peter 4:1-2 1
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

  10. Amen brother! If need be!! God has a way to humble us and back us up to the wall until we repent and give Him what He wants!! :)
  11. Yes I agree. God is looking for obedience. And why? ...I Peter 4:1-2 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. :)

  12. I can not remember how many times He has grabbed me and shook me to get my attention.
  13. And that shaking can come in a myriad of ways. That shaking can come from many directions or situations and circumstances.

  14. I do not believe that all suffering comes as a result of sin. I believe the Lord gladly will allow us to endure adversity and many unfavorable circumstances in order to strengthen us and bring us into a deeper relationship with him so that we, as Paul said, can embrace and experience the fellowship of Christ's suffering.

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death..." Phillipians 3:10

There are many scriptures we either violate or pretend they do not exist in order to maintain a walk that periodically carries us outside the boundaries of our faith in order to bring comfort to our flesh.
Major and Relentless say Amen and like this.
  15. Of course I believe it because I believe the Word of God which is the final authority for all matters. The good, the bad and the ugly work together for good to those who LOVE the Lord. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

God said it and I believe it.

God will do whatever He pleases in order to bring us to the stature of the man, Jesus Christ. He will do whatever needs be to bring us nearer to Him and break us away from the world. When we are ugly in character and not manifesting Christ, He will correct us however He pleases. "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ..." Ephesians 4:13

  16. Great scripture. That really says it all doesn't it....

God is FAITHFUL to afflict us - when need be :)

  17. I thought I'd let you all know that I got some blood work done and my condition is GONE! The other issues I have is because of a lack of Vitamin D! Bring on the vitamins!! Glory to God!!!

    John 16:23-24 (KJV)
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
I read it in the word of God, I declared it, I believed it, it is so! Glory to God!!! Praise Him for His promises!
Fish Catcher Jim, Cturtle, Big Moose and 4 others say Amen and like this.
  18. So I thought I'd continue this thread as it seems to still be an important subject. After all:

    Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

"What don't my prayers get answered?" There we go - and these are by no means exhaustive:
    So what's the fix:

God's promises are sure and for all. And there is a catch: you must be obedient and holy.
  19. Please would you explain Jobs situation?
  20. What do you want to know?
