The Good Shepherd

  1. "He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice". (John 10:3,4)

"Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it". (Rev. 2:17)

It is so amazing, and such a blessing that the Lord wants to have intimate fellowship with each of us. In this world, we may have the same names that others have, but to Jesus each of us has a unique name and we have been created for a specific purpose. He has a special name for each of His sheep.

When we are saved Jesus calls to us "by name" and leads us out. We are new creations in Christ. We are now God's children, and He dearly loves us. He will not fail us, and though painful at times, He chastens us, so that we continue to return to Him, and stay on the path He has purposed for us.

God desires for us to be close to Him, and for us to be intimate with Him here on earth. But one day, in Heaven, we will be infinitely more close to Him (see Rev. 2:17 above). What a great privilege, and incredible blessing to be one of God's children! Praise the Lord He is the GOOD SHEPHERD. He knows each of his sheep, calls them by name, and keeps them at every moment. Hallelujah!

  2. Amen my brother!
  3. Despise not the chastening of the Lord. He chastens me because He loves me!
  4. John 10 is a great passage. It links in well with the shepherd theme of Psalm 23.

  5. Farouk--

    So does John 6:

"And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand". (John 6:10)

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters". (Psalm 23:2)

There is a clear reason John 6 mentions "there was much grass in the place". It is to show that Jesus is indeed Jehovah, and He "makes his sheep to lie down in green pastures" (Psalm 23).

Hallelujah! Every word is in the Bible for a purpose!
