It Could Be Worse

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by davelou, Jan 10, 2013.

  1. Just wanted to share a true story, and what my brother said that really touched me, in a way nothing else ever has.

About seven years ago, my brother went to the hospital, complaining of a back and knee pain. Seeing that he is obese, naturally the emergency staff thought this was normal. So, they sent my brother home with a prescription for pain meds. Two days later, he was back at the emergency room. This time X rays and MRI's were taken. They thought there was a tumor on his spine. They didn't know what to do. He was flown to Tulsa, where when he arrived, he was already paralyzed from the waist down. An emergency surgery was preformed, which saved my brothers life. His back was sliced open, and a massive staff infection was scraped off his spine, leaving him paralyzed for life.

My mother and I rotated staying over night with my brother in intensive care. My brother was receiving morphine, to control the pain. I have had to crawl into the emergency room, with my own back problems in the past. But, I can't imagine the level of pain this must have been. He would go in and out of consciousness. The moaning with agony was heart breaking. I would have reverted to using my old Navy language. But, not my brother. At one point, during this agony, he opened his eyes and said in a loud voice, "God is good! I know He is! Oh, could you imagine what things would be like if he wasn't."

I break down in tears every time I tell this story. As a mater of fact, I'm in tears as I write this.

Now, when non believers ask the old question, "If God is good, why does He allow so much suffering to take place?" my response is "Oh, could you imagine what things would be like if He wasn't"

  2. I take it your brother is a believer in Christ?

I know the name of a book you might want to read, The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis.

As Christians we know our God is good, but His goodness transcends human understanding. We know our God is good because there is so much evidence of that goodness in the world, despite how much pain and sorrow and darkness is evident in the world.

  3. Yes.......it can always be worse. That is Life. It is always going to be that way and has always been that way.

It is NOT will things get worse, but instead, how will we handle those things when they do get worse.

  4. THAT'S RIGHT!
When antichrist gets things going, we'll find out how tough things can be.

  5. Not me my brother ! I am leaving here in the Rapture!!!!

    2 Thess. 2:7-8
"For the mystrty of iniquity doth alreay work; only HE (Holy Spirit) who now letteth will let, until HE be taken out of the way (Rapture) ......Then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming".

  6. I truly hope that's right. I am a post trib. believer, but I hope I'm wrong.
By the way I am sorry for venting the way I do. I know I'm not right in the head, sometimes. My brother has had mental problems sense he was in his teens. I know the symptoms and I've recognized them in myself lately. The VA prescribed som new antibiotics yesterday The doctor said they would be sending something for pain that will help me sleep. I sure hope it helps. It's been three days and still can't get to sleep. i wish they would have had what I needed when I was there. I won't get the meds. in the mail for 10 days. Now, I'm not going to go on a tangent about gov.health care.
But, big red letters means I'm ticked off.

    Thanks for your prayers.
