If we sincerely pray for wisdom God will give us wisdom because God loves wisdom and He loves it when His children desire it.

I agree that wisdom very often comes only after a long period of trial and error. But there have been exceptions to that conclusion. My 1st thought is about Solomon:
"And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore...."
