Jonah (without knowing it?) emulated a Fish God !

Little known fact about the Jonah story will open up the understanding of Nineveh's reactions and repentance (God's plan and will).

Nineveh worshiped a fish/man God and therefore when Jonah was either seen to come from the big fish, or merely smelt like a fish, they clearly "paid attention to what he had to say".

We have no record of the Ninevites knowing anything about Jonah's encounter with the fish, and considering the distance Ninevah was from the sea, such an occurrence would have been an alien concept for Ninevites.
