Job

Discussion in 'Bible Study' started by da_man, Oct 12, 2007.

  1. Job

Why did the Lord allow Job to go through all that he did?
Additionally, in Job, it says the angels came to present themselves in front of the Lord and satan came with them. Is this to say that satan came to heaven? And the Lord asked satan where he came from and satan replied "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it." Any ideas?

  2. The following is a repost of a study I did on just that topic:
    Job’s Trail- God’s Victory part 1

INDEED GOD LET SATAN RUN HIS MOUTH TO THE POINT THAT HIS PRIDE WAS FULLY EXPOSED- THE IT WAS TIME TO BAIT THE HOOK-
    Job 1:8 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Satan,7854 Hast thou considered7760, 3820, 5921 my servant5650 Job,347 that3588 there is none369 like him3644 in the earth,776 a perfect8535 and an upright3477 man,376 one that feareth3373 God,430 and escheweth5493 evil?4480, 7451
JOB’S NAME LITERALLY MEANS “he that weeps or cries†THIS WAS A MAN CHOSEN BY GOD FOR A VERY SPECIAL PURPOSE MUCH LIKE THE APOSTLE PAUL -
    Act 9:15 But1161 the3588 Lord2962 said2036 unto4314 him,846 Go thy way:4198 for3754 he3778 is2076 a chosen1589 vessel4632 unto me,3427 to bear941 my3450 name3686 before1799 the Gentiles,1484 and2532 kings,935 and5037 the children5207 of Israel:2474

    Job 1:9 Then Satan7854 answered6030 (853) the LORD,3068 and said,559 Doth Job347 fear3372 God430 for naught?2600
    Job 1:10 Hast not3808 thou859 made a hedge7753 about1157 him, and about1157 his house,1004 and about1157 all3605 that834 he hath on every side?4480, 5439 thou hast blessed1288 the work4639 of his hands,3027 and his substance4735 is increased6555 in the land.776
    Job 1:11 But199 put forth7971 thine hand3027 now,4994 and touch5060 all3605 that834 he hath, and518 he will curse1288 thee to5921 thy face.6440
SATAN IS REALLY EXCITED NOW- HE’S REALLY GOT THE LORD RIGHT WERE HE WANTS HIM RIGHT? WRONG-
    Job 1:20 Then Job347 arose,6965 and rent7167 (853) his mantle,4598 and shaved1494 (853) his head,7218 and fell down5307 upon the ground,776 and worshiped,7812
    Job 1:21 And said,559 Naked6174 came I out3318 of my mother's womb,4480, 990, 517 and naked6174 shall I return7725 thither:8033 the LORD3068 gave,5414 and the LORD3068 hath taken away;3947 blessed1288 be1961 the name8034 of the LORD.3068
    Job 1:22 In all3605 this2063 Job347 sinned2398 not,3808 nor3808 charged5414 God430 foolishly.8604
JOB PREFORMED HIS PROPER RITUAL , HE MOURNED AND GRIEVED - THEN HE WORSHIPED- WHAT A HEART AFTER GOD- WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THE TIME OF YOUR DEEPEST PAIN AND TESTING? WHAT WILL YOU DO IN A MINOR CRISIS? JOB WOULD INDEED BE TESTED IN MANY WAYS BUT HIS LOVE FOR GOD NEVER FALTERED- HOW ABOUT YOU- IS IT TIME TO TAKE A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO DEALING WITH LIVES TROUBLES? BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD- LET US WORSHIP OUR GOD!

    Job 2:1 Again there was1961 a day3117 when the sons1121 of God430 came935 to present themselves3320 before5921 the LORD,3068 and Satan7854 came935 also1571 among8432 them to present himself3320 before5921 the LORD.3068
    Job 2:2 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Satan,7854 From whence335, 4480, 2088 comest935 thou? And Satan7854 answered6030 (853) the LORD,3068 and said,559 From going to and fro4480, 7751 in the earth,776 and from walking up and down4480, 1980 in it.
HERE HE COMES AGAIN- IS HE SMART ENOUGH TO LEARN FROM HIS LAST MISTAKE?
    Job 2:3 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Satan,7854 Hast thou considered7760, 3820, 413 my servant5650 Job,347 that3588 there is none369 like him3644 in the earth,776 a perfect8535 and an upright3477 man,376 one that feareth3373 God,430 and escheweth5493 evil?4480, 7451 and still5750 he holdeth fast2388 his integrity,8538 although thou movedst5496 me against him, to destroy1104 him without cause.2600
SATAN EXUDES PRIDE BUT JOB EXUDES HUMILITY-
LIKE A PERCH THE DEVIL JUST CAN’T RESIST BITING ON THE SAME HOOK THAT HE WAS JUST SNAGGED ON-
    Job 2:4 And Satan7854 answered6030 (853) the LORD,3068 and said,559 Skin for skin,5785, 1157, 5785 yea, all3605 that834 a man376 hath will he give5414 for1157 his life.5315
    Job 2:5 But199 put forth7971 thine hand3027 now,4994 and touch5060, 413 his bone6106 and his flesh,1320 and518 he will curse1288 thee to413 thy face.6440
    Job 2:6 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Satan,7854 Behold,2009 he is in thine hand;3027 but389 save8104 (853) his life.5315
    Job 2:7 So went Satan forth3318, 7854 from4480, 854 the presence6440 of the LORD,3068 and smote5221 (853) Job347 with sore7451 boils7822 from the sole4480, 3709 of his foot7272 unto5704 his crown.6936
    Job 2:8 And he took3947 him a potsherd2789 to scrape himself1623 withal; and he1931 sat down3427 among8432 the ashes.665
SATAN IS INDEED STEPPING UP THE PRESSURE FOR HE HAS ALREADY BEEN EMBARRASSED BY A MERE HUMAN ONCE ALREADY- BUT AS FOR JOB HE HAS BEEN HIT IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE AREA OF HIS LIFE WHAT ELSE COULD POSSIBLY BE USED AGAINST HIM?
    Job 2:9 Then said559 his wife802 unto him, Dost thou still5750 retain2388 thine integrity?8538 curse1288 God,430 and die.4191
SATAN IS TRYING TO SOW DOUBT, UNBELIEF AND EVEN HATRED INTO JOB’S HEART- HE WILL USE ANY AND EVERY AVENUE TO GET HIS MESSAGE THRU , EVEN USING PEOPLE AROUND YOU TO DO HIS WORK- DON’T BE DISCOURAGED, DON’T GIVE UP!

  3. Job’s Trail- God’s Victory part 2
    Job 2:10 But he said559 unto413 her, Thou speakest1696 as one259 of the foolish women5036 speaketh.1696 What?1571 shall we receive6901 (853) good2896 at the hand4480, 854 of God,430 and shall we not3808 receive6901 evil?7451 In all3605 this2063 did not3808 Job347 sin2398 with his lips.8193
JOB’S RESPONSE WAS THE ULTIMATE PICTURE OF HUMILITY , REVERENCE AND LOVE
    Job 2:13 So they sat down3427 with854 him upon the ground776 seven7651 days3117 and seven7651 nights,3915 and none369 spoke1696 a word1697 unto413 him: for3588 they saw7200 that3588 his grief3511 was very great.1431, 3966
JOB INDEED WAS LAMENTING HIS PAIN BUT NEVER HIS GOD. AS HIS FRIENDS APPROACHED WHAT DO YOU THINK THEIR PROPER RESPONSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN? -GOD’S WORD GIVES THIS ADVISE
    Rom 12:15 Rejoice5463 with3326 them that do rejoice,5463 and2532 weep2799 with3326 them that weep.2799
    Mat 5:4 Blessed3107 are they that mourn:3996 for3754 they846 shall be comforted.3870
A BROTHER IN THIS KIND OF PAIN SHOULD BE MET WITH AN HEART OF UNDERSTANDING AND WITH WORDS OF LIVE AND COMFORT- HOW DO YOU THINK HIS “FRIENDS†REACTED? THEIR LACK OF LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING BECOME MORE AN MORE APPARENT AS THEY TRY TO WEAR HIM DOWN INSTEAD OF BUILDING HIM UP- HOW WOULD YOU REACT? WILL YOU BE THE ONE WHO BRINGS HIS HEALING LOVE AND COMFORT OR WILL YOU BECOME RELIGIOUS AND JUDGMENTAL?
    Job 3:20 Wherefore4100 is light216 given5414 to him that is in misery,6001 and life2416 unto the bitter4751 in soul;5315

    Job 3:22 Which rejoice8056 exceedingly,413, 1524 and are glad,7797 when3588 they can find4672 the grave?6913
HERE WAS A MAN WHO WAS PAST THE LIMITS OF HIS STRENGTH- WHY WAS LIGHT (ILLUMINATION, LIFE) GIVEN? NO MATTER HOW BAD IT GETS GOD’S GRACE AND MERCY ARE STRONGER STILL.
    Job 7:17 What4100 is man,582 that3588 thou shouldest magnify1431 him? and that3588 thou shouldest set7896 thine heart3820 upon413 him?

WHAT IS MAN IN GOD’S SIGHT- HOW MUCH DOES HE CARE ABOUT YOU? HOW MUCH WOULD HE GIVE TO SAVE YOU AND BRING YOU BACK INTO FELLOWSHIP WITH YOU? THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IS THE BASIS FOR OUR ENTIRE CHRISTIAN FAITH-
    Joh 3:14 And2532 as2531 Moses3475 lifted up5312 the3588 serpent3789 in1722 the3588 wilderness,2048 even so3779 must1163 the3588 Son5207 of man444 be lifted up:5312

WHAT IS MAN TO GOD- HE LOVES US ENOUGH TO PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE FOR US- HE WOULD HOLD NOTHING BACK UNTIL HE COULD HOLD US CLOSE AGAIN!

  4. I can relate to Job. God has used those experiences to bring me closer to him.

  5. That;s the story of my life Don- LOL!

  6. I think all of us can relate in one way or another. Thanks for that study Bro Larry. Going to read it again later.

  7. hard to read job,God says to satan he is in your hands, seems like we are missing a big part of the story here!

  8. This is true, that God allowed Satan to be in control of Job, but only to a certain extent. God didn't allow Satan to actually kill Job. He allowed Job to go through these things in order to make his faith stronger.

  9. maybe you are safe like job was but his family?

  10. All who trust in Christ will be safe from the second death- this body is only a temporary shell.

  11. Did Job have a a problem, different from wha his miserable comforters were voicing?

    Well stated Larry,

We can also perceive the story of Job "seemingly" to have contradictions.

The following is a non-traditional, non-populist view of Job:

Why did God allow Satan to mistreat Job so badly and why Job had to go through all those terrible crises without any purpose other than to prove to Satan that God was right.

I believe the history of Job firstly shows us that suffering is inflicted by Satan, and is overruled by God for purposes of mercy. Hence, we always want to show mercy (not sentalmentism) to our fellow brothers and sisters.

Job did not turn his back on God, for he was righteous in Christ. The arguments of his miserable "comforters" are typical of the Eastern mentality regarding human suffering. Their argument of Job's intense sufferings must have been the result of some secret sin in his life."

Does God punish us like that? Does He cause us to suffer physically for our sins? No. Certainly many of our physical sufferings are simply the result of the sin problem. ... Anyway, God rebukes Job's "comforters" in the end because of their misrepresentation of His loving character.

I believe one of the important elements that has escaped us is Job's reaction to all of what was happening to him. A lesson for us to learn. He does not necessarily reject their reasoning regarding punishment for sin, but he "defends" his own righteousness. That is why Job is so puzzled.

Job wanted to learn what was going on with him? "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; cause me to understand wherein I have erred .... is their injustice on my tongue?" (Job 6:24,25,30). Job is saying, "Where have I gone wrong? ... I am blameless, even though I am suffering." "You know that I am not wicked"

Job did have a problem, as we all do! "No. I have not sinned. I have kept God's commandments; I have held my integrity." Job 23.

Is Job confident in his own righteousness or is he defending justification by faith in Christ alone? Of course, Job goes on to defend his good works of feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, caring for orphans and widows. "So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous IN HIS OWN EYES" (Job 32:1).

Job was sincere; he was honest. But he had a problem that all of us have--he was righteous in his own eyes. But God rebukes Job. "Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me" (Job 38:2,2). Is not God rebuking Job for his attitude?

Now notice, Job repents. "Then Job answered the Lord and said: 'Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth'" (Job 40:3,4). God's words silenced Job's pretense to righteousness. Could it be that his attitude was one of the rich young ruler who came to Jesus saying," All these things have I kept from my youth up" (Matt. 19:20).

When Job came face to face with God, he admitted, "I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. ... Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes" (Job 42:3,6).

Yes, Job was doing all the right things, he was on the moral high ground, yet he did not understand that his self-righteousness was mere filthy rags, as mine are in God's sight. Interesting, that is the exact condition of Laodicea. "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing--and do not know your are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked ..." (Rev. 3:14-22).

Spiritual pride is our downfall. Job repented of this, may we learn the lessons that God gives us through the story of Job, a sinner saved by grace like the rest of us. It was hard for Job to admit he had a problem in his spiritual life. It was hard for Peter to repent of his own opinion. It was hard for Paul to give up his righteousness of the law.

God allowed Satan to touch Job for a purpose. May we all see that purpose. Only God's righteousness, not our own can save us from self. May we also continually look to Calvary, where Christ has redeemed us from self-righteousness. Oh, that we may take comfort in Job's story.

    blessings to you in Christ,
    John

  12. Good word John- God seems to have a knack for bringing us to the end of ourself- that is where His work really begans.

  13. Amen Larry. God has told us what His goal is for our lives: I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people" (2 Cor. 6:16).

Here is a quote by a preacher of righteousness:

"Love is the basis of godliness. Whatever the profession; no man has pure love to God unless he has unselfish love for his brother and sister. But we can never come into possession of this spirit by trying to love others. What is needed is the love of Christ [agape] in the heart. When self is merged in Christ, love springs forth spontaneously. The completeness of Christian character is attained when the impulse to help and bless others springs constantly from within--when the sunshine of heaven fills the heart and is revealed in the countenance" End Quote.

  14. ....your labor in the Lord is not in vain. [1 Corinthians]

Job's labor in the Lord was not in vain, for his labor in much suffering comforted you.

  15. The story of Job is very interesting. Here's my take on it:

Satan tries to make a bet with God, saying that the only reason Job likes God is because God has been favorable to Job in giving him a really comfy life. Satan bets that if all of this is taken away, that Job will curse out God.

So God allows Satan to take all of it away. Eventually, Job has every single bit of pleasure in this life taken away. His family, his possessions, and his health. He literally has nothing earthly that can give him pleasure. All that is left is his faith.

So then Job starts crying out about the pain he is in. Job's three friends come to argue against Job and insist that there must have been something wrong that Job did in order to cause God to inflict this upon him. They insist that Job has to be a sinner of some sort. But Job fervently argues for his integrity.

Basically, after all of this arguing, Job insists that he has done nothing to deserve this, but he ultimately says that he will never curse God; he will never turn his back on God.

So Job passed the test, and Satan lost his bet. God then spoke to Job to help Job understand that he can never argue against the all-knowing all-powerful Almighty. He sees that God is always right, and that we are justified through our faith in God. God reprimanded Job's friends for insisting that Job had to do something wrong in order for his hardships to befall him. People can still be good and still have hardships befall them. Faith is what is truly important, more than anything else in this life. God restores Job's life to what is was after he learns this lesson.

  16. well

God created all things to work to HIS Glory. It all ended when Job prayed for his friends and also Job was double blessed in the end. I believe satan is used to help us grow in Christ. To show us who we are inside. God knows us better then we know ourself. Ever react to something and say to your self where did that come from. We go through as much hell here on earth as we want too. If we feed the spirit then the soul will have to line up with the spirit. but as Paul say I die daily. It is building yourself in the holy ghost. every morning because it is too late to prevent it at night.
It is a Jesus every morning for me
    Praise and Worship:dance::dance::dance:
