Clean Hearts

'Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill. He warned them not to tell others about him. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”'

Matthew 12:15-21

Jesus was aware that they were conspiring to kill Him because He healed a man on the Sabbath, so He withdrew from that place to continue His ministry. A large crowd followed Him and He healed all who were ill. I imagine that amongst this crowd, there were varying reasons why they decided to follow Him. Some of them probably wanted healing for a loved one or themselves, others knew or suspected this was the Messiah, others were impressed/ entertained by the miracles, some were just curious about this mysterious man, some were nosey and just wanted something to gossip about, and others may have been enemies just spying on Him. Either way, a large crowd followed Him. When He healed them, He told them not to tell anyone because His time of publicity had not come. He didn’t yet want everyone knowing who He was. He was the Messiah that Isaiah prophesied about who would proclaim justice to the nations.

'Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house. “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”'

Matthew 12:22-37

Here Jesus heals a demon-possessed man who was both blind and mute. This amazed people and they wondered if this was the “Son of David” or Messiah. The Pharisees who obviously were opposed to that possibility lied and said, “It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” The Pharisees were jealous of Jesus and were always looking for something to accuse Him of. Anytime Jesus did something amazing, especially when He broke their laws, they tried to undermine everything that He did hoping to turn everyone against Him. When they accused Him of casting out demons by Beelzebub, Jesus told them that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” One cannot drive out a demon with demonic powers. You must first “tie up” the strong man. Jesus said that every sin can be forgiven, except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. What does this mean? Blasphemy, according to “The Good Book Blog,” is ongoing hardening of a person’s heart against the Holy Spirit who is trying to lead that person to repent of sin and believe in Jesus. Such a person is defiant toward God and despises His Word. He/she flagrantly, willfully, and persistently rejects God and His commands. With this being said, it is not a sin that we ever have to worry about accidentally committing. Thank God!

The mouth speaks what the heart is full of. If we are full on fear, worry, insecurity, doubt, bitterness, etc, it will is likely to come out of our mouths at some point. Lord, I pray that You cleanse my heart of all sin so that only what is pleasing to You will come out so that I may reflect You. I do not want to have to give an account for idle words anymore. May I only speak words that please You. Amen!

'Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here. “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”'

Matthew 12:38-45

Jesus had already done so many miracles and signs, but they were faithless. Jesus knew that no matter what He did, they were just going to have something to say against it. They were just going to have to wait until He died for their sins and then was risen from the dead to gain victory over all death and sin and hell.

'While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”'

Amen! When you are born into God’s family, you also gain a large spiritual family of fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, and grandchildren in the Lord. Hallelujah!! Thank You, Jesus!!! We are so blessed!!!

Hello Lovekr07;

We own two separate Biblical movies, Matthew and The Gospel of John. We watch them over and over again. What you wrote in this thread, Clean Hearts made me think how many times have we seen a miracle, healing, God's guidance in resolving a serious issue with self or our families, His intervention in a struggling Church, there are so many unlimited works of God.

It may be our human nature to witness such things, to be entertained but only to forget. When I see that e
ither way, a large crowd followed Him, I want to be included in that large crowd.

I take it you are an avid student of the Bible, and/or you may teach Bible or Sunday school just from reading your contributing posts.

Two years ago my wife and I started reading the Bible together and then ask questions or share comments with each other. This after so many years of reading our Bibles alone. I find this is one way of being included in that large crowd, to understand why we follow Jesus and allowing God to grow us daily.

God bless you, Lovekr07, and thank you for sharing.

Happy Saturday, Bob! Thank you so much for commenting. I definitely see what you mean and I agree that I definitely would want to be included in that crowd. Whatever reason people decide to check out God and His works, it is always a good thing that they get there so that they have greater opportunity to be truly saved and have a true transformation. It is like how some people initially come to church for some kind of event or because they just feel that it is a good thing to do, but not because they are truly seeking after God, but it is still good that they are there because they may eventually be saved.

As a side note, I have never been a Bible teacher or anything like that. I am not gifted in that way, but I do love to read and study the Word on my own and once in awhile in a Bible study led by someone else. Maybe one day in the future God will use me in that way. It is possible :)

God bless you and your family, Bob! Have a great weekend!
