Be Still, My Soul

  1. Be Still, My Soul / Katharina von Schlegel / Jean Sibelius

    Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side.
    Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
    leave to your God to order and provide;
    in every change God faithful will remain.
    Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend
    through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

    Be still, my soul: your God will undertake
    to guide the future, as in ages past.
    Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
    all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
    Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
    the Christ who ruled them while he dwelt below.

    Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
    when we shall be forever with the Lord,
    when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
    sorrow for forgot, love's purest joys restored.
    Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
    all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

    little flower likes this.
  2. Dear Sue,
    this is such a wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing!
    Yes, "Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last."
    Sometimes we have to force our soul to be still, not to let "disappointment, grief and fear" overwhelm us. I am longing like you for the time when "love's purest joys [are] restored".
    Love, your sister

  3. one of my favorite hymns!

  4. Thank you for sharing that with me. This old hymn has such wonderful words of encouragement, I just had to share it.

  5. A good one to have as a favorite! The Lord Jesus put the song in my mind the other day and it encouraged me so much I just had to share it to encourage others, too.

  6. SueJ: Great hymn, and it's kind of linked in so many Christians' minds with the tune 'Finlandia', by Jan Sibelius (1865-1957).

    Blessings.
