1. Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I read this as a person must repent.
A person must be baptized.
Then the person receives the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Doesn't this make baptism a requirement for salvation, not just an act of obedience?

Thanks in advance for your responses~

2. Water baptism isn't required for salvation. But the baptism of the Holy Ghost is difinately required. The circumcision is of the heart.

3. Why did Peter say to be baptized,
"everyone of you"?

4. They were all baptized in water when Peter spoke of this~

5. Luke 23:39 - And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

Luke 23:40 - But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

Luke 23:41 - And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

Luke 23:42 - And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

Luke 23:43 - And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Which saves water? or Water of life?

6. Obedience to God's commands saves us.
He commands us to believe in Christ as our savior, to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus..............

7. I mean seriously, Do you think God played favorites? The thief believe on Christ, and Christ told him that "Today shalt thou be in paradise with Me." and the thief wasn't baptized by water.

8. In truth not one was baptised before coming to salvation.
Can you give me your opinion on this Violet. If a person confesses, repents, gives their life and is born again . If that person trips on the way to the baptismal hits their head and dies before getting wet where would he go?
My salvation was complete when Jesus said it is finished He paid my price in full. When I open my heart to Him I am born again and this new ( eternal life ) comes into my heart.
None who are not saved should bother getting baptised because all they will do is get wet. Jesus said you must be born again. After that new birth we gladly follow in steps of obediance.

If you don't agree I hope you can still love me as a brother. As a young man in Christ I used to argue endlessly over doctrines thinking every point a battle to be won at all cost. Later I found this was not God's heart but indeed was my flesh trying to be spiritual- this can never truly be accomplished. Jesus said we must above all else Love our heavenly Father and love each other. I pray God's peace on your home and heart, your brother Larry.

9. Do we have faith?

To have genuine faith is to believe the commands of Christ, not simply with the mind but with the heart. Rom. 10:10. Many have thought wrongly of John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, whoever BELIEVES in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.†This is not a one time mental assent to truth, but a “continuous faith act.†The word “believes†is the same word “faith†in the original—pistis. We can now say with certainty, “whoever has faith in Him.†And Christ asks the question, “…when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?†Luke 18:8.

One preacher said,

THE question is often asked, Is baptism a saving ordinance? IF it is meant by this, Will baptism suffice to save a person, if he does nothing else? the answer must be, No. But if it is desired to know if baptism is necessary, the reply must be, Yes. If it were not necessary, it would not have been commanded. When the people inquired of the apostles, “What shall we do?†The answer was, “Repent, and be baptized.†Christ said, “He that believeth [has faith] and is baptized shall be saved.†And from Philip’s preaching to the eunuch we learn that we cannot preached Christ without teaching baptism. The record simply says that Philip began at the 53d of Isaiah where the eunuch was reading, “and preached unto him Jesus.†That was all; yet as they went on their way, the eunuch cried out, “See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?†End Quote. 11. And I love you all with the love of Jesus whether we agree or disagree!

12. Without immersion baptism you can not enter into the kingdom of God.

13. I really don't mind being baptized by water as long I don't place it before the Lord Yahshua. In fact I know a church that teach that FOR SALVATION and also teach the lies of men!

14. My belief is that, "you must be born again".
And that is of the water AND the spirit!

15. Hi Larry,

God is fair and I agree with your premise when you wrote: "My salvation was complete when Jesus said it is finished He paid my price in full." You are seeing the objective truth IN CHRIST for all humanity! Thanks for putting the "foundation" of the gospel into priority, which is Christ and Him crucified.

One of the problems I see in this discussion is our generic use of the world "salvation."

The Bible speaks of "salvation in three tenses, the past, present and future. This does make a difference!

Future Tense -- "Ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved" (Matt. 10:22). "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16).

Present Tense -- "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Cor. 1:18).

Past Tense -- "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)" (Eph. 2:4, 5).

In the past tense Paul is not speaking of the believer. He also makes it clear God did not do this BECAUSE of our faith. He did it only "because of His great love." Paul is speaking of those who are "dead in trespasses." He sums it up: "by grace you have been saved." It was not through our faith, it was "by grace."

Clearly the Bible teaches salvation in the past tense. It is speaking of all men, such as" "For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation to ALL men." Titus 2:11.

The Bible has already saved all of mankind at the cross. Now then, will you accept that salvation and be baptized?

...Now then, we are not saved "because" we are baptized, but those who have faith "will be" baptized." It's called "faith which works," not faith plus works." Hence, they "will be" ultimately saved.

John

16. Now that bothers my soul very much...

Dear PreciousMessage...

On I Corinthians 1:18 Modern versions (I think the one you have quoted are NIV or NKJV) it says "The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Cor. 1:18).

The KJV says it quite opposite. See how the two don't agree with each other...very subtle indeed.

I Corinthians 1:18 - For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Again - Modern Versions says this "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)" (Eph. 2:4, 5).

KJV says this....

Ephesians 2:4-5 - But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

See how subtle this is...it changes the whole meaning and both can not be right.

17. Hi Jag,

"which are saved" is still in the present tense, not past. We need not be bothered by Christ's command to be baptized. It's an act of faith, not an act of works, no man is saved by his work, there is no merit in it.

Again, Ephesians 2:5, 6 is speaking of all humanity at the cross, all were made alive IN CHRIST. Hosea 6:1-3. That would be in the past, now then we can look at Ephesians 2:8 as being in the present, Paul makes a "distinction for a reason."

18. One day we're all going to be baptized anyway...with fire.;)
