Worship through music

So....? Make a joyful noise to the Lord, however you prefer to do it?

Psa_66:1 To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm. Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
Psa_81:1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
Psa_95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Psa_95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psa_98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
Psa_98:6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
Psa_100:1 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

Amen to that, except it really shouldn't be a matter of preference or taste, but rather obedience...but that does seem to creep in, doesn't it?

I hear His voice in scripture and that tells us seven times to make a joyful noise both with voice and instrument. If you find that a distraction - by all means, avoid it.

If one finds that complying with the will of God concerning worship and praise is a distraction, then it would behoove one to fight through that with self-control and obey, even if it's hard to do. There is great blessing that comes with that kind of resolve. God honours it greatly!

As far as I can tell (from what I read), Grant uses voice in his worship. God has stated His preferences in scripture. You don't have to use both but both are acceptable to Him. So it boils down to what each of us chooses.

God through David has commanded that we raise our voices in praise, and to dance before Him, and also bring in instruments to praise God also. There is no way around a command.

David did his dancing and music before they reached the Tabernacle - there is no mention of commands to dance in church - maybe you can remind me where that is?

2Sa 6:15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
2Sa 6:16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
2Sa 6:17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

PS: I will be dancing 'til my legs give out when the Ark is restored to Yeshua.
Edit** Just probably not in church.

Psalm 149:1-5
1 Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

2 O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.
O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King.
3 Praise his name with dancing,
accompanied by tambourine and harp.

4 For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them.
Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

Underline where it commands to dance in church/synogogue and lets hope there were no beds in the synogogue. There is a time and place for dancing....I don't see what you are saying in scripture.

Actually God did ordain the 7 feasts in remembrance....are they done in any churches? That at least IS a command in scripture.

There is no dancing recorded in scripture in the tabernacle/temple/synagogues/house to house fellowship in all of scripture. The pagans did that in their rituals and temple prostitution. David was outside the tabernacle when he did his little dance of joy at receiving the ark. Context. Saul's daughter was resentful that David was king - not her father's household. Not because he was dancing. We should be praising God in ALL we do, wherever we are - and that includes dancing. But I see nowhere in scripture that there was ever any dancing in the place where the Israelites gathered to worship. David wrote the psalm you refer to. David danced once that is recorded. David also committed adultery & murder. We are not encouraged to do those because David did them. I have nothing against dancing and if your church wants to dance, I have no problem with it. IMO you have no scriptual legs to dance on. You haven't said what kind of dance God "commands" but if it's the hokie pokie - know this: hokie pokie comes from hocus pocus which is involved with PAGAN magical rituals. I'm gonna think God doesn't want that in His house.

NO. God dances. We dance. The Israelites danced before Him, and David did and instructed the people to do so. Who are we to deny God that expression of exuberant joy in His presence? In the following verse, the "exult" is from the Hebrew word "gheel gool" which means to spin around with violent emotion---with joy. So, yes, God dances and spins with great mirth and joy. We need to experience that kind of rejoicing in His presence when we worship Him.

You have no need to withhold from Him, nor fear.

Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

I think we would have to stretch גִּיל a good deal to apply it to God in that way, i.e. "to spin round (under the influence of any violent emotion)". Did the Lord comport Himself in that way? He gives us a perfect, full and complete Example, the revelation of God and perfection in a Man. Typical scriptures speak of His "stately step", He was "comely in going" (Proverbs 30:29).
