The Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit

Question:
The verse that says "Therefore I say to you, every sin and
blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy
against the Spirit will not be forgiven " (Matt. 12:31)
alarm me very much. Sometimes I think that I
committed the sin of blasphemy so I fall into despair.
Please explain the meaning of the blasphemy against the
Holy Spirit? And how is that there is no forgiveness
either in this age or in the age to come? How does this
unforgiveness coincide with the mercy of God and His
many promises?
Answer:
All your fears are temptations from the devil to make you fall
into despair so be comforted.
As for the meaning of the blasphemy against the Spirit and
the sin that is without forgiveness, this, with the grace of
God I shall explain to you.
The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not the unbelief in
the Holy Spirit or His Divinity or His work and it is notinsulting of the Holy Spirit. If the atheists believe, God forgives
them for their unbelief and their mockery of God and His Holy
Spirit. All those who followed Macedonius in his heresy and his
denial of the Divinity of the Holy Spirit, when repented the church
accepted, them and forgave them.
What then is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? And why
there is no forgiveness for it?
The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the complete and
continuous refusal of any work of the Spirit in the heart which
is a life time refusal.
As a result of this refusal, man does not repent and accordingly
God does not forgive him.
God in His mercy accepts every repentance and forgives as He
said, "The one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out"
(John 6:37) and the saints were correct in their saying: "All that
the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to
Me I will by no means cast out".
[There is no sin without forgiveness except that without
repentance].
So if a person dies in his sin without repentance, he will perish as
the Lord said "Unless you repent you will all likewise perish "
(Luke 13:5).
Then non repentance till death is the only sin that is withoutWhat is the relation between lack of repentance and the
blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
Obviously, a person cannot repent without the work of the Spirit
in him. For the Holy Spirit will reprove the world of sin (John
16:8) and lead the person in the spiritual life and encourage him.
He is the power that aids in every good work.
Without the communion of the Holy Spirit, no one can
accomplish any spiritual work.
So the refusal of the communion of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor 13:14)
absolutely can not produce any good. For all the works of
righteousness the apostle had put under the title "fruit of the
Spirit" (GaL 5:22). That person without any fruit will be cut
down and thrown into the fire (Matt. 3:10) & (John 15:4-5).
He who refuses the Spirit, will not repent, and will not bring
forth any spiritual fruit.
If his refusal of the Spirit is a complete and life long refusal, then
he will spend all his life without repentance, without works of
righteousness and without fruit of the Spirit, so of course he will
perish. This is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
It is not that the person grieves the Spirit (Eph. 4:30) or quenches
the Spirit (1Thess. 5:19) or resists the Spirit (Acts 7:51) but it is
the complete and persistent refusal of the Spirit. So he would not
repent and would not have fruits in a righteous life.
Here we are faced with a question:What if a person refuses all works of the Spirit then turns back
and accepts Him and repents?
We say that his repentance and acceptance of the Spirit even just
before the end of his life, is an indication that the Spirit of God
still works in him and led him to repentance. Then his refusal of
the Spirit was not complete and not life long. A case like this is
not a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit according to the definition
mentioned before.
To fall into a sin that has no forgiveness is a form of a war of
the devil against us to make us fall into despair which will
destroy us, make us depressed; and that does not help us in any
spiritual work.
To the person that asked the question I say: the mere asking of the
question is an indication of your concern about eternal fate. This
is not blasphemy against the Spirit.
Now we need to answer the last part of the question.
How this unforgiveness coincides with the mercy of God?
God is always ready to forgive and nothing prevents His
forgiveness, but the important thing is that the person repents to
deserve forgiveness.
If the person refuses repentance, God waits for his repentance till
the uttermost breath of his life, as happened with the thief at the
Lord's right hand. If the person refuses to repent all his life and
refuses the work of the Spirit in him till the time of his death then
he not God-blessed be His name would be responsible for the
perishing of his soul.

I can’t seem to do a short post …..oh well

At one point I thought along the same lines as Daniel2macarius, but after further research I changed my thinking on this, and while I agree with several things that Daniel2macarius says, we do differ on the on the actual sin itself.
Quite honestly I am not totally convinced that I am right in my premise, because the Word does not specifically spell it out. But I do know that what I speak of does have irreversible and unforgivable consequences ……so let me submit to you this.
God is not into games ….salvation is not a hide and seek….. maybe you’ll make it….maybe you won’t… that is not what God or His grace is about.
II Peter 1:3 states According as his divine power hath given unto us allthingsthat pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
The all things has got to include salvation …….and His Word is very clear as to how we attain salvation, albeit, it is fairly obscure as to the unforgivable sin. The reason (and this is just a guess} is that the unforgivable sin is not one that many will commit, and truly not one anyone will commit unwittingly.
By sheer deduction {that is eliminating all the things that God can and does forgive} the only thing that He is not able to forgive, is something that is irreversible; that is,……………….. being born of the devils seed “A sin unto death†Other than what is revealed below, I have never met a sin in the Bible that God does not forgive.Having spent a few years in the satanic arena I was aware of the children of the devil, those born of the seed of the serpent. As I grew in the Word I gained an understanding of the adversary and his cohorts, and a greater understanding of the power we as Christians, who are born again of Gods seed have in our lives.
I Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
There is a devil with a host of devil spirits on this earth to disrupt the movement of the Word, and hinder Gods people, whose purpose, to steal, kill, and destroy.
A spiritual battle is taking place around us daily, not that we should focus on this, for “greater is He that is in you then he that is in the world†{II Cor 4:4}. But you should be aware of who your adversary is, and how he operates, so when conflict does arise you know where it is coming from and how to handle it. Most, if not all of us here are born again of Gods incorruptible seed. This was accomplished by repenting from sin, and confessing Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. {Romans 10:9} When we did that, the great miracle of all times took place “the new birthâ€. No more a person of body and soul we now have spirit within. That spirit {holy spirit} is the gift, the promise of the Father, incorruptible seed. Once you have seed (that spirit of God within) you cannot loose it or change it, anymore then you can loose or change the physical seed from your natural birth; hence being born againNow, just as you accepted Christ as your Lord there are those who have accepted the devil as their lord and confessed with their mouth that he is the true god, and thus are born of the seed of the devil. Seed is seed, you cannot change it, once you accept the devil as your true god you are born of the devils seed. Of coarse it is not incorruptible like Gods seed. For the Word declares that the end is coming for the god of this world.Just to clarify: not everybody who is in satanic worship or who practices in the occult is “seed.†Many are not; some are born again Christians, obviously not walking in the light of their calling, {I use the word “Christians,†just to distinguish between the two seeds. they are former Christians, born again of Gods seed.} And some are just a person of body and soul who have not made a commitment either way…………………………….
I am going to point out a few things in the following scriptures, that in and of itself, should be pretty much self-explanatory.
Genesis points out the two seeds, the one of the woman which was Christ, {Galatians 3:16) and the seed of the serpent
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
I John sets the distinction between forgivable and unforgivable sin. It does no good to pray for someone who is sinned unto death {seed of the devil}
I John 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32: And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come
Mark 3:29 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Luke 12:10b And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Matthew , Mark and Luke set up this full account for us recorded in John, of whom Jesus is again speaking to the same scribes and Pharisees, the ones who had committed the sin against the Holy Ghost. Note: throughout this, that the eyes of there understanding are closed. People of the wrong seed will never understand spiritual truths.

John 8:12-47
12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13:The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14:Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15:Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16:And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17:It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18:I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19:Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20:These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21:Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22:Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23:And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24:I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25:Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26:I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27:They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28:Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29:And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30:As he spake these words, many believed on him
Verse 30 tells us why Jesus even bothered to teach. He obviously knew the Pharisees would not believe, but others were present which did believe
31:Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32:And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33:They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34:Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35:And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36:If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37:I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
They were Abraham’s seed according to the flesh, their physical bloodline.

Cont'd

My belief is that anyone who is concerned about blaspheming the Holy Spirit has NOT actually blasphemed the Holy Spirit. Anyone who has truly blasphemed the Holy Spirit will not be concerned about it. They will not care. That's just my opinion.

38:I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
note: the mentioning of two different fathers
39:They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham
note: Jesus agrees in verse 37 that they were of Abraham’s seed then in verse 39 he disputes that. Verse 37 refers to the bloodline verse 39 is speaking of Abrahamic believers.
40:But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41:Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
They just forgot to mention which god. Jesus proceeds to clarify that for them

42:Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43:Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44:Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45:And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46:Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47:He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Father is God {Elohim} We are His sons and daughters because of the new birth which took place inside us. Jesus told the Pharisees that their father was the devil, and as I mentioned previously seed is seed it cannot be changed. When you are born the first time your physical birth, you have the physical seed of your parents. You cannot change who you are. You can run away from home, change your name, put a bag over your head, but you are still of the physical lineage; that physical seed that was passed on at birth. When you were born again you are no longer just body and soul, but body, soul, and spirit. You have that seed of God in Christ in you, which liveth and abideth forever. We are no longer limited to our senses walk, to walk according to the coarse of this world. We have that spiritual connection we are part of the family of God.
There are others who have decided to take a different route, those who have selected to go the way of darkness, to make the god of this world, their god. Their father is the devil, the deceiver, the author of lies. Their power is real, and much glory and rewards do they receive here on earth ….but that will end. These are the children of the devil, who are born of the devils seed, they have gone the way of Cane, and that sin against the Holy Ghost is unforgivable, unchangeable, unredeemable; for seed cannot be changed.

This is a topic I have worried about constantly, as when I was a teenager, I was a horrible rebel, and spoke against God in mockery and profanity. I've mocked in just about every way imaginable, because when I fell away from my faith, I was with a really rough crowd. Alcoholics and devil worshippers. But I had a terrible experience with alcohol and it almost took my life. I came back to the Lord then. I consider it this,

The Bible tells us more than once about God's love. How God can forgive any sin and cast it as far as the East is from the West. And that Jesus went to the cross to die for all the sins of mankind, not just these few and not those. Not to mention a desire to get right with God from a grieving, repentant heart is sure sign that we desire God's love and forgiveness and surely recieve it.

I believe that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the rejection of Christ as Son of God and as Savior as given evidence by the Holy Spirit. I believe it is the perminate and deliberate rejection of Christ into your life. Constantly.

I'm homeless at the moment, and I'm on a friend's computer so I can't be on that much. So, this is my two cents.

Jeremy! Alright! How wise you are!!!

InHisLove~I agree to some degree.
If you are really upset by what you have said or done, that is a very repentant heart and God does forgive.
It mentions in Revelations about forgiving blasphemers!

Bless you all!

John 8 - The "Unfogiveable Sin."

Perhaps this will help:

All four Gospels speak of the unforgivable sin: Matthew 12, Mark 3, Luke 12 and John 8. John 8 gives a full account of Jesus Christ's teaching of the unforgivable sin.

John 8: 2 and 3, state: "And early in the morning he [Jesus]came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. (3) And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman...." They are the same scribes and Pharisees mentioned in the other three gospels.

According to John 8:44, Jesus boldly told the Pharisees "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lust [desires, cravings] of your father you will do...." These religious leaders were born of the devil's seed. They blasphemed againist the Holy Spirit--"the unforgiveable sin," and had no desire to seek forgiveness. Their only desire was to do the will of their father, which is the devil.

According to Genesi 3:15, there are two seeds:
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
In John 8 there are two fathers mentioned; one is the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ (the seed of the woman), and the other father is the devil. These religious leaders were born of the devil's seed which can never be removed and therefore can never be forgiven. Seed is seed. When we were born physically, we received physical seed. When we were born spiritually, we received God's spiritual seed, but the difference is God's spiritual seed is incorruptible. Incorruptible simply means it can never be corrupted. We have "eternal-life seed" in us. Praise God!

I Peter 1:23 states;
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
If you want to receive a fuller understanding of "the unforgivable sin," I highly recommend reading and studying John 8 in its entirety.

Blessings,
Victorious1 ;)

I tottally agree!

Yeah, it says that who ever shall come to the Father, I will in no wise cast out. So I believe that everyone is offered the chance for repentence and asking Jesus to save them. The ones who blaspheme the Spirit are the ones who continually and deliberately reject Christ as savior, throughout their entire lives, until it comes to a point where you no longer desire to be saved and no longer feel remorse on the subject.

That's my two cents.

Jeremy,

I believe you are on the right track about this because it says in Mark 3: 29 ........
Mark 3:29

29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

To blaspheme is to speak evil of God. And for obvious reasons the non Christian , if you hear a lot of them talking, talk against God and His saving knowlege.

Jeremy you said and I quote: I believe that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the rejection of Christ as Son of God and as Savior as given evidence by the Holy Spirit. I believe it is the perminate and deliberate rejection of Christ into your life. Constantly.

That my friend is a very sound definition and you are to be commended for that.

I just want to say to you , that God sees your homelessness my brother and He will not leave you there as you honour Him and put Him first above all else. Just put your whole trust in Him and He will direct your paths. I will be praying also for you. God bless.:bible:

Thank you for your kind words. Yeah, this subject is something I have studied repeatally because I was a bad blasphemer before I came back to the Lord. I also help my old friends with advice on this subject.

They say that they have speakin against the Holy Spirit and are therefore unforgiven I told them "The bible also says all manners of sins shall be forgiven, even ALL the blasphemies they UTTER" So therefore, I believe when the bible says speaketh it is going along the lines of rejection to Christ.

Yeah, I trust in the Lord and I have asked forgiveness, and that's all you can do. But everyone is offered a chance to come to repentance, and that's doing the exact opposite of someone who would be accountable for the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Unpardonable sin & blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

Hi All

Hebrews 6:4 illustrates the need to be "enlightened" by the Holy Spirit before one can possible "blaspheme" against this Spirit. "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance".

If God offers you His best gift, you experience it and see the value of this gift - and then reject it finally and utterly - what more could God offer you?

Judas Iscariot, "tasted of the heavenly gift" and deliberately fell away, betraying Christ. This was a deliberate trampling of the Messiah and the Holy Spirit underfoot. Judas is "lost" forever, a son of perdition (John 17:12). Rev 20:8 describes the rebellious unsaved who remain at the end of the age as being "the number of whom is as the sand of the sea."

Both backsliding Christians and unbelievers can commit the unpardonable sin. To "taste the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come" and then to utterly and finally reject this, is to commit the unpardonable sin.

The Pharisees and priests of Christ's day were in danger of eternal damnation. Christ warned them not to blaspheme the Spirit. Many of the Pharisees were hypocrites. Many KNEW that Christ was from God. The Pharisees were primarily politicians, not spiritual men. They were obsessed with holding onto their worldly power. Christ did not belong to their church or their political party. Nocodemus spoke for the Pharisees when he exposed their motives saying "Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." (John 3:2).

Many rejected the working of the Holy Spirit through Christ because they wanted a Lion, not a Lamb. It can be very offensive when God does not perform up to our expectations. The Pharisees (and Judas) clearly had a problem with the gentle Messiah (Matt 12:18-24). They wanted a Messiah who would route the Romans, not heal the sick. Thus they scoffed at Christ's "whimpish" miracles, and even ascribed these to Satanic forces. This was a deliberate misinformation campaign against Christ, not something they really believed. It was all in a day's work for the Pharisees, to "shut up the kingdom of heaven against men" (Matt 23:13).

The High Priests, Annas and Caiaphas were also accused of having the "greater sin" (John 19:11) which is close to the unpardonable sin.

What do the sins of Judas, the Pharisees and High Priest have in common?
They were premeditated.
They were hypocritical.
They knew they were doing wrong.
It was simply expedient for them to trample Christ and the Holy Spirit.
They did not sin under pressure (duress).
They knew they were fighting God.

Even Judas's "repentance" could not undo his 1st degree, premeditated sin.

Regards

Forgive Us Our Tresspassess

I dont think it's possible to commit the unforgiveable sin.

For the last two thousand years, Jesus has been resurrected, and sits in Glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit. as our triune God and Lord.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was only possible while Jesus was a man on the earth, and it was only possible because The Holy Spirit filled Jesus with the fullness of God's anointing and power. The Pharisees accused Jesus of performing miracles by the power of Satan.

The blasphemy was unforgiveable because they rejected the diety of God, and the possibility of salvation and redemption. The Pharisees (in essence) were calling the Holy Spirit, Satan, and calling Jesus a Satan worshipper.

Today Jesus has defeated Satan on the cross, He is risen, He has the keys to death and hades. Now it is possible to say, "For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, and WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM, shall be saved."

That implies that NO SIN is unforgiveable anymore.

Hi EttaFire

Consider the warnings given tin Rev 3 which has an end-time setting. The warnings are given to 7 churches which are clearly Christs (but with problems). They reflect 7 attitudes present in the end time Christian churches. Lets examine your position that its impossible for a Christian to commit an unforgiveable sin today (the end-time)

Revelation 2:7 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."
Isn't there a condition, i.e. that one must overcome? It does not say "to all Christians will I give to eat of the tree of life"

8 "And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write;.. be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
Isn't there a condition here, that one must be faithful, even to death by martyrdom?

11 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. "
Again, its a conditional statement that only Christians who "overcome" will not be hurt by eternal death. Remember that this is a message to the Christian church (Smyrna).

Revelation 3:
4 "Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white:"
Doesn't this tell us that some Sardis Christians have in fact defiled their garments and will not walk with Christ in white?

"for they are worthy. 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life"
Doesn't the above say that some in the church will have their names blotted out of the book of life? How do you read it?

14 "And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write;... 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. "
Doesn't this sound pretty final, that Christ will reject them unless they change?

It is indeed possible or Jesus would't have mentioned it. I do not believe one can foolishly commit such and act as I believe it requires the same hardness of heart that the pharisee's demonstrated while looking right into the face of the Living God- this is not a slip of the lip but they deliberate and calculatingly attempted to supplant God's power and position but refusing to recognize His moving and stick to there own plan of control - this was very similar to lucifers own act of rebellion- I will exault, I will mak, etc- nosubmission to God's plans and purposes but self exaultation the same heart is demonstrated with these people:

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Lord didn't we do this, Lord didn't we do that- not only was their religion based on works and not grace but it was indeed look at what I did- not based on Jesus's example of speaking the whay the Father said and doing what the Father led Him to do- this was not the Father's will at all but glorifying of thier own flesh

The bible, and most important Jesus, does not agree with you. The bible says that who so ever speaks a word against the Spirit will not be forgiven. It even gives an example. The idea that someone rejects the truth is not the blasphemy. that would be the rejection of salvation. However speaking against the Spirit with knowledge IS blasphemy. That is what the bible teaches and we need to be careful not to add too it. God bless.

"However speaking against the Spirit with knowledge is blasphemy"

I am not sure that you and I didn't just say the same thing-

In the NIV Compact Dictionary of the Bible....... It says : Blasphemy is the unpardonable sin referring to basphemy against the Holy Spirit.( Matt 12 :31; Mark 3:28-29 ; Luke 12 :10 ) There is much difference of opinion as to the meaning of this sin, but one of the most popular and likely views is that the sin involves decisively and finally rejecting the testimony of the Holy Spirit regarding the person and work of Jesus Christ.

So in essence I would stick to the theory that any one who rejects the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour is catagorized in that group who are blaspheners of the Holy Spirit.

That is why it is up to us to get the gospel to the unsaved as there is not much time left before the coming of our Lord.
