When love is real...do you feel it?

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by autumn oddity, May 23, 2017.

  1. I've never been in love before..so I wonder, this question is especially for those already paired up,
Like do you really feel something or do you gradually feel attraction and love?

Idk I just want to be in love some day but it doesn't seem like it will ever happen.

  6. Having been married to the same person for almost 56 years my first impulse is to answer, "both."

You always feel something and the range of emotions usually covers all of them. At first, I remember being sort of dazzled and maybe a little bit 'in love with the idea of being in love.' And he was adamantly convinced he loved me! That helped, of course! Gradually as we got to know one another there were more feelings covering most emotions. But love is much more than feelings alone. Love is something we decided to do...and something we continue to decide to do every day.

More than anything else (like being lovers, parents, grandparents, co-workers, co-ministers, greeters, prayer team and business partners, caregivers, and who knows what more) we are friends who trust and count on one another.

I am thinking of the scriptures below:

    "Two are better than one,
    because they have a good
    return for their work:
    If one falls down,
his friend can help him up:" Ecclesiastes 4:9 NIV

"A cord of three strands is not easily broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12b) NIV

Love really is work; but doable because the third strand in the cord is Jesus.

  7. For my entire life I lived with the belief that true love was a myth made up by poets and writers. I didn't think it was real. Then, I met my husband when I was 58 years old. For the first time in my life I knew what love really was - it hit me like a thunderbolt, and it was unmistakable. All I can say is that when it is the real thing, you will most definitely know it. It won't be an elusive thought or flitting feeling that you have to chase down within your psyche and then mull over it to see if it is the real thing. You will feel it strongly in every fiber of your being and you will know when it is there and that it is right. True love does exist. If a skeptic such as myself can find it, then it is possible for anyone. And how did I find this perfect person who inspired true love? I simply asked God to guide me to him, and I put my full trust in the Lord to make the right choice for me. Once I prayed this plea to God, he delivered my husband to me within 24 hours, just like that. I can't guarantee that you will have such immediate results, but my experience is that the best thing is to let God choose for you. Who else knows the hearts of others as well as the Lord? Who else is a perfect matchmaker? And once you find that special person, you will absolutely know it. Love is real and it is powerful, and when you fall in love it will flood every corner of your being. It is well worth the wait.

  11. Via dolarossa: Mathematically speaking the probability of meeting that one person who is right for you is pretty darn good. There are billions of people on this planet, and I believe that there is someone for everyone. With billions of possibilities, there's a good chance that you will find true love, and, as in many cases, it will come when you least expect it and with a person that you never pictured yourself with. My tendency has always been to view people from the inside out, meaning that I never judge a book by its cover. Had I limited myself to getting to know others based upon some mental ideal of what my ultimate mate should look like, I would have ended up looking in all the wrong places and at all the wrong people. So, I've always tried see what kind of heart the other person has first and foremost. This is the part of your mate that you will end up having to live with for the rest of your life. Long after physical looks have faded or altered, the heart and personality endure. Since this is sometimes a more elusive thing to be able to detect with our limited human senses and intellect, this is where trusting the Lord becomes important. God knows the heart of others, and thus He is the only one who knows if the other is right for you. With prayer, you can ask God to reveal to you where the other person's heart truly is, and thus be reassured that what the other person is emulating is in fact their true self. When God matched me to my husband, the things we ended up later discovering that we had in common were absolutely astounding. To date, I am still in awe of the intricate detail of how well my husband and I mesh together in countless ways. Not a day goes by that I do not still thank God for sending me this wonderful priceless gift. And, the strangest thing of all is that I was not seeking a mate at the time, but one day woke up with a voice within me planting the seed of the idea that today I should search for a husband. Just like that - out of the blue. I had no intention of ever marrying. I am SO happy that I obeyed that little voice that day. As it turns out, had I not acted that very day, I would never have connected with my husband. I had a narrow window of mere hours within which to act, and I am so happy that I did.

  12. This is interesting,bc I met a guy and he said he felt an instant drawing towards me...but idk...idk if he is it for me.

  13. That's interesting.... I hope something similar happens for me.

  14. Yeah I have to think with this guy....I'm not sure at all :/ hmmm

  15. I want to clarify something so that there are no misunderstandings: sometimes (in fact most of the time), it takes time for real love to grow. My experience involved almost immediately knowing that this was the right person for me, but this is not normally the case. Most people who fall in love do so after they get to know each other, spend time together, and share experiences with one another. Love usually grows slowly and steadily, like a delicate plant. You have met someone who is attracted to you. Just because you don't feel "thunderbolts" right now, doesn't mean that this is not the right person. If you find this person likable and interesting, then it is up to you to decide if you want to spend more time with him to see if your feelings blossom into love. Please don't discount a potential future mate because you didn't feel bowled over at the beginning. Let time and prayer guide you. If this is "the one", you will start to feel love and once you do fall in love, you will definitely recognize it.

  16. Thanks for clarifying this. Our love gradually became a more mature love. I cherish the memory of that first encounter even though I thought he was 16. He was 27 and looked very young. I was 23. We will celebrate 56 years in July. :)

  17. Thank you for saying this because some of my friends have said they felt an instant attraction and knowing with their significant other...whereas I never felt that ad it made me feel like something was wrong with me or I was missing an emotion or something.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

  18. Where did you meet him?
What has heard or read about you?
What have you guys talked about?
Who is behind this attraction he claims?

Is he rooted and Grounded in Christ?
Does he Love God first and most? If not then he won't be able to love you as you deserve.

    Praying girl for sure
    Blessings
