What about some of the old hymns.

There is a Hymn that I used to sing as a child in first school, and in my old Church, I can't find it though.

In the chorus it had Burn, fire burn, and burn spirit burn, and at the end, and Lord let there be light.

It was my favorite hymn and I cant remember what it is?
Don't know if any of you do ?

B2LY...I looked through an old hymn book but cannot fine that one. You do not have a name of the hymn?

I Surrender All
Van De Venter was involved in his church through counseling and personal work when his friends urged him to

give up teaching and become an evangelist. For five years he wavered in his decision. He wrote: "At last the pivotal hour of my life came and I surrendered all. A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and a touching chord He caused me to sing songs I had never sung
before." Shortly after this time J. W. Van De Venter wrote the hymn, "I Surrender All."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
All to Jesus I surrender,
make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
I couldn't find waht you were talking about but I want to sneek in this newbie:D
What A Friend We Have In Jesus
What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.
Hey freedom.... that's a great site. I hope B2LY can find the song he was looking for cause now he has me curious as to what it is.
Dusty! What A Friend We Have In Jesus! Wow! I hadn't heard that song for a looooong time...then last night I got a CD of hymnals (free with some DVDs about Christ), and that song was on it.
Love it, love it!:jesus-cross:
Well , that is what I am trying to do in this thread .... refresh and jog memories and it is not that I don't love the new songs... Don't get me wrong but the old hymns of the past have such meaning and impact. I guess for an oldie like me I love to reminise. I hope you all don't mind.
And yes " What a friend we have in Jesus''' That has to be my favourite. Because He is my friend and He sticks closer than a father, mother, brother or sister. And He does walk with me and talk with me. Now I am on a roll and have to look that song up . Sorry all you young folk. You can just tune the old lady out with all her memories. LOL:dance::dance::dance::dance::D:D:D:D:):):):):rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: That's why I am over here in the thoughts section.
Here it is Guys:
In The Garden
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
Refrain
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
Refrain
I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
Wooooooo! I found it! :D
Looks like I got the lyrics completely wrong :eek:
And a Video
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
Now that I am seeing it I recognize it! LOL!
Graham Kendrick is a great composer!
Wow good job B2LY and now I know the one you were talking about . It's a great one . Had forgotten about it.
He Lives.
He Lives!
Evangelist Alfred Ackey (1887-1960) was preaching during an evangelistic crusade. After the service he was trying to persuade a yo
ung man to receive Christ, when the man said, "Why should I worship a dead Jew?" Ackey stated, "HE LIVES! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands." Later that evening the young man gave his heart to Christ.
It was during this experience that Ackey wrote not only the words but also the tune for our hymn, "He Lives."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him He's always near.
In all the world round me I see His loving care, And tho my heart grows weary I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

May we never forget

Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

He Hideth My Soul

This hymn is unique in that it was a poem written to fit the tune. Kirkpatrick brought the music to Fanny Crosby, asking her to write a poem to fit his music. She, the blind musician who wrote 8000 music, did! [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

(1)A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,

A wonderful Savior to me;

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,

Where rivers of pleasure I see.

(2) He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock

That shadows a dry, thirsty land;

He hideth my life in the depths of His love,

And covers me there with His hand,

And covers me there with His hand.

(3) A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,

He taketh my burden away;

He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved,

He giveth me strength for each day.

(4) With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,

And, filled with His fullness divine,

I sing in my rapture, "O glory to God

For such a Redeemer as mine!"

(5) When clothed in His brightness transported I rise

To meet Him in clouds of the sky,

His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,

I'll shout with the millions on high

The late Lillian Watters sang this in the late 50's. Her husband Robert plays both the piano and organ in this recording. Both were very musically gifted.

Eternity

Don't think anyone's mentioned this one yet.

O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great redeemer's praise,
the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace!

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,
to spread thro' all the earth abroad the honors of Thy Name.

Jesus! the Name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease,
'tis music in the sinners' ears, tis life, and health and peace.

He breaks the power of canceled sin, He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood availed for me.

He speaks, and listening to His voice, new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor, believe.

Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb your loosened tongues employ;
ye blind, behold your Savior come; and leap, ye lame, for joy.

Can someone tell me what the name of that hymn is that includes the refrain, "It is well, it is well with my soul?"
