True Biblical Giving

  1. Greetings Friends,
There seems to be a lot of confusion about Biblical Giving and the Tithe.

Tithing was around from the beginning, even before the law of Moses.
Being redeemed from the curse of the law or not being under the law Does Not Excuse, Throw out or destroy the Tithe.
The tithe has Not Ever been apart of the law.

Now with that said, I am going to clear the air as they say and Distinguish the Different Biblical Giving.

    1. Tithe
    2. Offerings
    3. First Fruits
    4. Alms

    1. Tithe has and always will be 10 percent of your earnings.
The tithe carries a different promise with it. Malachi 3:10-12

    2. Offerings are an additional form of giving and have nothing to do with the tithe.

Offerings carry different promise all together separate from the Tithe Promise.
    Such As Luke 6:38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Scriptures such as 2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

This Does Not Say Anything about Taking away the tithe nor Does it Say It is Ok to Determine if you want to give 10 percent or not.

    This is Dealing With Offerings
However........Giving Tithe out of duty or a heart grumbling is Not Acceptable either.

    3. First Fruits.
This is Not the tithe as many believe
No the First Fruits are to be Given Once A Year. It is of your Increase.

    Example.
Starting January 1st you are getting a 1 dollar an hour Raise.
So on a given 40 hour work week you would now be making 40 dollars more each paycheck.
First Fruit is simply taking the First Extra 40 Dollars (just once) and Adding it with your giving that week.
This does not cancel out your tithe.

Folks act like this is too much.
Let's think about this for a moment,
For the prior 52 weeks you lived with out the extra 40 dollars a week.
So why would one more week hurt you?

The next 51 weeks you keep the 40 extra dollars each week.
The thing I want you to see is this.
Do You Love and Respect God so much that You Will Keep Him First in your life including Your Finances.

If you think God does Not Notice.....
    You are not thinking correctly.

    4. Alms....
This is totally separate from the other three and Is The Only One You Are Giving To Man. The other three are unto God.

Example giving to some one in need.
    Helping out some one etc.

    Matthew 6:3
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

This is the only Giving where God tells us to keep it quiet and do not make a big show of it.
It's not about the giver but Protecting the ones in need. Why draw attention to them or their need.

This is only a simple example of True Biblical Giving. One can dig deep into this.

I pray this has helped some and brought a clearer understanding of True Biblical Giving.

    Blessings

  2. I have always wondered why some will say that murder and lying and stealing and adultery are all things found in the Bible that we have to agree are the Word of God and we should not in any way indulge in them...............will then say that we do not have to tithe our income because we are not under the Law but grace as if one is Biblical and the other is not.

    Gen 14:18:
"Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him a tithe of all."

  6. Yes......that was my whole point!!!!!

The tithe was not exclusive to the Law at all. Many who argue that we are under grace and not the Law fail to see that the tithe was in place before the Law was given so their argument is mute.

  7. Those who would argue "we're under grace" and use that as a reason to not give have no clue what they have been given. If I understand 2nd Corinthians chapter 9 it IS the grace of God within us by which we give graciously. The gracious gift from the Corinthians is the indescribable gift mentioned in v.15 (which the Lord graciously enabled them to give.) If you tell professing Christians to be gracious as they have been given grace...and their giving plummets....something is wrong.

  8. It is true that tithes was before the Law, and it the tenth of our blessing or earnings. Offering is different from tithes. Some have said that tithes and offering are the same. No its not, in tithes there is a certain amount, if I may say, it is 10% but offering is voluntary, out of your own will to give. That is why Luke mentioned that on what measure you give, the same measure will be used to bring it back to you. I believe that there are blessings booth on tithes and offering. We are blessed when we give tithes because of our "obedience" to His word to give the tenth of our blessings we received. We are blessed when we give offering because of our "giving". First fruits can be given once a year or also, first fruit of your blessings. Like when you have your "new" job, then believe you should give your first earning to God. In the Old Testament first fruit is given every time they have their first harvest of the season. These tithes, offering and first fruits are given to God but alms is given to man. Als is done out of our love to God, we can give without loving but we cant love without giving. if we say we love God then is an ordinary thing for us to give alms. People asked Jesus, when was the time you're thirsty or hungry that we give you a drink or feed you, Jesus replied, when you do these thing to the least you are doing it to Me.

in Malachi, this tithes and offering are the only verse in the Scripture that God Himself, said, "test me on this" thus God placed a high value on giving what is due to Him and to give out or free will.

I hope and pray that this thoughts can add up to what was mention and explained above. Godbless everyone

    Very Well said Brother!
Have you ever studied out the different promises and blessings for each of these?
It's sad how some believers will tithe here and there and expect to reep from the giving blessing.

I hear folks say we can't afford to tithe and my family and myself say we Can't afford Not to tithe.

Thank you for you addition to this thread.
    Blessings my Brother

  10. Fish Catcher Jim,

Hi,I have not studied these in depth but this how I understood as I read Scriptures and I was obeying these things in my personal life.

That is true we can't afford not to tithe. Personally, what is tithe compares to all the goodness He gave to us? the strength that enables us to work and to earn? God is worthy booth of our praise, but also of our tithes and offering

Blessing to you as well Brother Fish Catcher Jim
