The Person of the Holy Spirit

Discussion in 'Holy Spirit Baptism and Living' started by GodSpeaks, Dec 12, 2009.

  1. And all because He loves us so much. That's so great He made it that way, that He is always by our side every moment and we can have sweet communion together all day! :)

Plus He speaks to us in the night seasons, even when we sleep

  2. The person of the Holy Spirit is so awesome. God is in me and I am in Him. If we open our hearts and receive from Him the fellowship is glorious. We are ‘one’ in harmony and in the Spirit, and our spirits are intertwined in communion with each other. When we encounter His presence the glory of God touches our life and we are forever changed!

  3. Exactly .... forever changed for the extraordinary .... not the ordinary . God doesn't want us to remain in the same place . He wants us to grow and change into the person whose faith expands , focusing on the things that matter which are spiritual and not of this world .

  4. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
    John 15:19

  5. That's right because we are nothing alike. But still I'd rather be like the Lord than like the world. This world is not my house, I'm just passing through :D Nothing here I'm attached to and I'm glad.

We should not want to be just common and ordinary, common, as so many do. But I want to live a extraodinary, supernatural, abundant, victorious live in the Spirit! He wants the best for us but too many settle for the ho hum, hum drum , barely get along 'Christian' life. That's not for me. We can make a difference in this life by walking in the Spirit and following Him. But we can't if we are complacent and just life for ourselves.

  6. That's right . Woa as we walk in the Spirit He will take us to new hights and each day will be a question ... " Where are You going to take me today ?'"

  7. Is that ever right!! When you are listening to Him and going with what He says, life becomes awesome and wierd. You just never know when He is going to wake you up in the middle of the night to give you a teaching or have you pray. Or maybe you are driving down the road and suddenly He tells you to turn in and get gas, when you don't need to. When you do someone walks up to you while filling up and suddenly you are telling someone about the Lord, or maybe he tells you to give them a ride and your find out they just spent their first night in their life on the street because they got kicked out their house. Maybe He has you stop as a fast food restaurant when you are not hungry, so that you can minister to a man that just got in a fight at the gas station next door, and is talking to himself loud enough to scare everone else in the resturant, and saying things like, "there are many of us and we are going to get that guy." So you are binding up the spirits so that you can tell him about Jesus Christ. And this type of stuff just goes on everyday, but who can understand? Who will listen and follow the Lord?

Awesome or wierd? It's fantastic, but my life used to be normal before He the voice came over my shoulder saying, "Read Your Bilbe". Now it is off to a yardsale to tell the man running it, 'you are a pastor' because the Lord told you, then you hear the reply, "I'm an assistant pastor." The Lord didn't call him an assistant pastor. How is it that man didn't understand when I told him. There was no way for me to know, so if I knew it was the Lord. The Lord did not view him as an assistant pastor.

It is nice to find a forum where there are those that seem to understand. Very nice post Dusty. So very true. What esle can you say but "Woa...Where are You going to take me today?"

  8. That's why the Christian life is so exciting. Those that think its boring need to have a personal encounter with Him. Its a relationship not religion. You just never know what He's going to do or say!

  9. That's funny! Yes, you're right. A pastor is a pastor LOL

  10. I was meditating on this today and enjoying His presence immensely!

John said Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Spirit

Matthew 3:11"I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

John 15:26"But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Jesus you said you would give us this Living Water. Holy Spirit You are welcome here. I pray for God’s people that they would hunger and thirst for you, and that they would want to know you more. Make yourself real to us that we may encounter you. Fill us to overflowing, commune with us, live through us, guide us and work through us. Spirit of God, you are so Holy and your presence is awesome! It’s so wonderful to know you!

  11. I had to enlarge this as it is so important in our Christian walk and if more Christians could take this more seriously , we would all have more productive Christian lives and would walk in the Spirit instead of our ways .

Yes if we can realize that part that the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives . But He is a gentleman and will never force His way into our lives . We are the ones that need to take the initictive (spelling ) to say yes Holy Spirit , take my life and use me .

Again , choices we make can alter our journey .

  12. I've had a hard time getting font and size to change and quotes to work sometime lately, even last night and today.

It's just hard to explain how wonderful Holy Spirit is. We would be tremendously blessed if we take the time to come to Him when we feel Him drawing us, instead of putting it off.

  13. Paul explained that he took all thoughts captive to Jesus Christ. So you can pick up spirits from the thoughts you are getting. You can check the spirits easily [1 Jn 4:1-3- all spirits from God tell you Jesus Christ came in the flesh], but if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. I you would say Jesus Christ came in the flesh, so one of the best way that I know of to tell if it is my thought or the Lords (after I have checked the spirit) is by wheter the thought is what I would think.

For example. I picked up a thought that said, "I want to give you a bit of wisdom."

So I checked the spirit, "Tell me Jesus Christ came in the flesh."

The thought comes back "Jesus Christ came in the flesh." ....Note: I can't tell you all the times the thougth comes back "I can't tell you that."

Anyway, I get back that Jesus Christ came in the flesh... but could it still just be me? So I go, "Ok, what is the bit of wisdom?"

"Wisdom is like hair." is the thought that comes to me.

My thought is now, "How the heck is wisdom like hair!!!" --- 'Wisdom is like hair' was clearly not my thought!!

The next thought is, "Wisdom is all that stuff coming out of your head."

Ok, now I am thinking about what has just come to me. The wisdom is the stuff that comes our of our head, but I had never quite figured it like that before.

Then I start recieving a teaching on Sampson, and how his hair was maintain by God, and how. As long as his hair was maintained by God he was very strong. So if our wisdom is maintained by God, then spiritually speaking, aren't we strong? Then it is pointed out that Sampson liked parables. He knew that honey came from the mouth of the Lion, and wisdom comes from the mouth of God [Prov 2:1] ,and that one of the faces of the Lord is a Lion... and the teaching just keeps going like this.

So Godspeaks writes, "You just never know what He's going to do or say." and "That's why the Christian life is so exciting."

I then conclude that Godspeaks must have been listening to that same Spirit that tells you Jesus Christ came in the flesh. Godspeaks tell us to listen believe that God can speak to us, he preaches Jesus Christ, he understands that you just never know what the Lord is going to do or say next, and he is excited about this life of listening to the Lord. He sounds like someone being taught of by the Lord alright. Why esle wound he be so into telling everyone to listen to the Lord Jesus Christ through the Spirit.

I find that encouraging. I think I will turn back and listen to the Lord some more. Thanks Godspeaks, for the encouragement.

  14. When the Bible says in 1 Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God: this is the way I test the spirits.

If it is contrary to what the Bible says in the Old and New Testament, or the character and nature of God, then I know it wasn't the Holy Spirit speaking to me. Because He would not contradict Himself. We compare ALL scripture with scripture to rightly divide the Word of God. When I hear Him speak in line with God's Word many other verses come to mind and they all agrees together. I know sometimes a person does twist scriptures to fit their doctrine, but if we keep the verses in context we will know the difference.

I do want to clarify something I said, which was " You never know what He is going to do" . Well really we CAN know. Because He will always DO and say what is according to His Word. That's how we stay safe. But that was not what I was talking about at the time. I was talking about we don't know what awesome things He may do each day and all wonderful things He will reveal to us through His Word and Spirit.

  15. Amen that is right and that is also why we are told to think pure thoughts because our thought life is very important. 2 Corinthians 15:5 ..... Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

We as believers are told to "take every thought captive" that doesn't conform to Christ's standards. We must evaluate every one of our actions, desires, and impulses, and bring everything under the control of Jesus and if our thoughts do not line up with the Word we need to ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse us of these thoughts . I am not sure if we pick up spirits from these thoughts but I am pretty sure that our thought life needs to be under scrutiny at all times and that is the leading of the Holy Spirit as we submit to Him .

  16. I think the enemy puts thoughts in our head and we have the choice whether to recieve them or reject them. But if we are sensitive our mind can 'pick up' the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to our spirit. He doesn't speak to our mind. It's spirit to spirit.

This is why we can believe with our 'heart', like that Bible says, which is our spirit, yet at the same time can have conflicting thoughts in our head. So being sensitve, we determine, did that come from my head or my spirit? I may say I believe a certain thing, and then a doubt may come, but that is from my head and I immediately resist and reject it, and continue to believe what I know in my 'heart' that is true according to the Word of God. Its like the cartoons used to show a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. Then we are in the middle and decide which to side with and yield to.

  17. We do need to be listening with our spiritual ears. And of course all of us are accountable for our actions. Concerning testing the spirits, I follow what is written in 1 Jn 4:1-3

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God;...

That is what is written, so that is what I do. That doesn't mean there are not other ways of discerning between spirits, but that is diffinetly a scriptual way to test the spirits.

I have meet some Christians that hear from the Lord, that like to use 1 Cor 12:3 "Therefore I make know to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus in accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord." except by the Holy Spirit.

So if they think they are picking up impressions from a demonic spirit, they ask that spirit to confess Jesus Christ is Lord. That sounds ok to me, and here is the scripture to back it up.

Then I have meet a number of Christians that simple go off there understanding and knowledge of the scriptures. 1 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. So the Scriptures are good for training in righteousness.

So if they are trained up in righteousness, you would think that they could tell if a spirit was good or evil by there understanding of the Scriptures. Yet Satan is crafty and I tend to think that he is smarter than me, and there are verse against leaning on our understanding, and verses for doing other specifics things to test the spirits.

Many have had a lot of practice hearing the Lord and seem to do a pretty good job of discerning between spirits because of their experience. There is scripture to back that up.

Heb 5:14 But solid foor is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. The context is practicing hearing as can be seen in verse 11 "Concerning him we have much ro say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

So, I study the Scriptures daily. I try to spend a lot of time listening to the Lord. I'd like to say that I was taking every thought captive to Jesus Christ, but I get busy and side tract too often. I usually refocus on Him about 10 to 20 times a day. And I try to make Him my Lord. That is; I try to get instructions from Him through out the day. If you have a Lord, He should be giving you some instruction. Yet when I test the spirits [our battle is not with flesh and blood] I use 1 Jn 4:1-3, because that is how we are specifically told to test the spirits, according to the Scriptures.

That is what I do, and it is all backed up by scripture. It works for me, if something else works for you fine. We are all accountable for ourselves. If you have other ideas, I would like to hear about them. If the Lord has told you something [we all know in part] I would like to hear it.

Because Timothy said "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. " I do believe that is first and foremost above all. But we use all these ways: 1 Tim 3:16, 1 Jn 4:1-3, 1 Cor 12:3 to know what is of God and what isn't.

We compare our experiences with the Word of God, not the other way around to know what is of God. Some believe a certain way just because they experience it, even if the Word of God says otherwise. That is putting our experience above the Word. Satan is the god of this world and works in circumstances, in this natural world. Most of the time he fights against what God is doing or wants us to do. As you said it's a spiritual battle.

God said He exalted His Word even above His name. And we know how powerful the name of Jesus is. This verse along with the one in Timothy shows the Word is of the highest authority, above all else.

    Psalm 138:2
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Yes the more we practice listening to the Lord the better we get at discerning good and evil.

For Him to be our Lord is to follow Him completely in all areas of our life or He isn't really our Lord. He knows all so He knows what is best. If we want the best He has for us we gladly listen and follow His direction because we love Him.

  19. "God said He exalted His Word" Is the "Word mentioned here a who or a what?

We study the Scriptures, and today we often call the Scriptures "The Word" because the Scriptures were inspired by God. Still it is very important that we understand that we are not to make an idol out of the Scriptures. Those that hear from the Lord know this, but sometimes Satan tries to get us to leaning on our own understanding of the Scriptures and live by that.

Jesus told the Jews, that they searched the Scriptures thinking in them they had life, but they were unwilling to come to them. [Jn 5:39]

    The Lord once told me:

THE SCRIPTURES ARE RIGHT, BUT THEY ARE NOT RIGHTEOUS. THEY HAVE NO ABILITY TO ACT. THEY ARE NOT ALIVE, BUT THE WORD OF GOD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE.

It is important to understand the we put Jesus Christ first. So where it is written "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." It is not saying that God magnified the Scriptures above all but Jesus Christ as the Word of God above all.

Jesus Christ is the manna. We put listening to Him first, not our understanding of the Scriptures. Otherwise Satan can come as an angel of light, quote us Scriptures, twist the meaning, and we wind up tricked. Is it wise to think that I can out smart Satan with my understanding of the Scriptures, no matter how much I have studied it?

Also consider if I am driving down the road, and I suddenly pick up a voice telling me to make a right turn at the next corner. Is that an good or evil spirit? Now if I had been keeping the Lord close, the devil wound have fled, but I get sidetracked and busy sometimes, so I need to be able to check that spirit before making that turn. How am I going to do that?

One of the most amazing things that I have seen about the Lord, is that He takes what seems like the most difficult problems and makes them extremely easy. For salvation, all we have to do is believe in Him, and faith comes from hearing. So we just have to listen to Him. To test the spirits, all we have to do is make sure the spirit is telling us that Jesus Christ came in the flesh.

That is the test the Scriptures specifically tell us to use!!! If the Lord had that test written in the Scriptures, it is up to Him to make sure the test works. Why get to thinking that we can out smart Satan instead of just testing the spirits like we are told? Trying to out smart Satan with my impressive understanding of the Scriptures is probably not going to work. As for me, I have to believe if the Lord had iit written to use a specific test to check the spirits, I should use it!

Now having read the Scriptures, are you going to start thinking obviously evil things are from God. You are not going to go out and start robbing banks are you? The Pharisees were not out doing stuff like that. The Jews in general had stopped listening to the Lord and started depending on there understanding of the Scriptures. They seemed good, but there were big problems. They were testing the spirits by leaning own their understanding of the Scriptures. They were not trying to pick up the voice of the Lord.

By using the test in 1 Jn 4: 1-3 if forces me to listen for a responce with my spiritual ears. If I just start thinking that I know the Scriptures so well that Satan can't pull something on me, I can stop listening and start depending upon my understanding of the Scriptures. Then I start lifting up the Scriptures as the Word of God, meaning that I am starting to depend on my understanding of them. I start idolized them instead of trying to find the Lord for instructions.

If Satan is going to have any luck pulling those that listen to the Lord away from the Lord, he is going to have to get you to start depending on there own understanding instead of trying to listen to the voice of the Lord. Someone might think that Satan is going to try to get you to follow his voice, but the Lords sheep simply will not follow Satan's voice. So he is succesful if he gets them to start going their own way, and lean own their own understanding. Satan might also try to make a noise [quote Scriptures] that sounds like the Lord's voice. What he can't do, according to the Scriptures, is tell you Jesus Christ came in the flesh.

It may be hard for me to understand why Satan or demons can not tell you Jesus Christ came in the flesh, but if the Scriptures are right, they can't. If have been using this test, and there must have been a thousand times when I asked a spirit to tell me Jesus Christ came in the flesh, only to be told, "I can't tell you that." The best I can tell, God is still God enough to make sure what He had written works.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.

I use it. It seems to work for me, and it forces me to listen with my spiritual ears and try to discern between good and evil. Try it and see if it works for you. I have not so far ever run into someone that said they were using this test and it was leading them to start doing evil things. Of course I have not run into many that are even using the test like it is written.

Did you notice this what I said right at the first of one of my posts?

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I didn't say we don't use what is said in 1 John 4:1:3 but use the verses you mentioned and others, any and everything we can to combat the enemy's deception. :)

I think we have thouroughly covered this one verse in the 5 posts we talked about it, over and over so I understand what you are saying. I do not idolize the written word of God as some do who only let it sit on their table to be displayed and would not touch such a Holy Bible. And I never said we lean to our own understanding. The written word is what the Lord Himself is telling us about the things of God. I have been saying all along we listen to the voice of the Spirit concerning everything and He reveals it to us. Without listening to Him we don't have any revelation of His Word. Like I was saying when this subject came up, I was talking about the PERSON of the Holy Spirit, our relationship with Him, drawing nearer, knowing and communing with Him . :) It wasn't at all about the logos.
