slipknot & linkin park

anyone like either slipknot or linkin park? slipknot has a christian member and so does linkin park

yea google slipknot, or google linkin park. slipknot is a heavy metal band, and linkin park is a nu-metal band. here are the lyrics to my favorite songs by bolth of them, for you to check out.

slipknot- gently

(guitar and drum solo for 2:00)

(singing) gently my mind escapes....into a relaxing world of pleasure, a pleasure that will take my mind, off the reality's of my life, my past lifes
(yelling) (guitars get heavy) life as i know it now, and whatever may come
it slowly dissapears, to somewhere in the back of my mind, and it shall
remian there, till iwish to retrieve it (guitar solo) yes i will stay here for a while, for i need the break, a break from the pressures of life. (guitar solo)

linkin park- a place for my head

I watch how the moon sits in the sky on a dark night
Shining with the light from the sun
But the sun doesn't give the light to the moon assuming,
The moon's gonna owe it one
It makes me think of how you act to me
You do favors that rapidly
You just turn around and start asking me,
About things that you want back from me

I'm so sick of the tension
Sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

(singing) I wanna be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I wanna be in the energy
Not with the enemy
A place for my head

Maybe some day I'll be just like you and
Step on people like you do
Run away all the people I thought I knew
I remember back then who you were
You used to be calm used to be strong
Used to be generous but you should’ve known
That you'd wear out your welcome
now you see how quiet it is all alone

I'm so sick of the tension
Sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

I'm so sick of the tension
Sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

I wanna be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I wanna be in the energy
Not with the enemy
A place for my head

You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, GO AWAY
You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, go away
You try to take the best of me, GO AWAY!!!!!

I wanna be in another place
I hate when you say you don't understand
(You'll see it's not meant to be)
I wanna be in the energy
Not with the enemy
A place for my head

I am so sick of the tension
Sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place to feed your greed
While I find a place to rest

I am so sick of the tension
Sick of the hunger
Sick of you acting like I owe you this
Find another place to feed your greed
While I find a place...to...rest

Slipknot isn't too bad, though looking at them as a Christian influence is a very big stretch for me. I like the halloween masks and stuff, but I would classify them more in the metalcore/nu-metal myself. They have some good telent musically though, but I don't know their philosophies as far as morals and/or religion is.

Linkin Park is more of a hybrid. I wouldn't put them in the metal scene at all. More like Prog-rock mixed with a bit of hip-hop or rap. I like a few of their songs, but I'm not much of a fan at all. Apologetix did a great remake of "In the End" called "Chorinthians" which was absolutely great, and our band thought about covering it at church one time.

someone coverd "in the end"? cool. nu-metal is what they're under at launch, but rap-core rap-rock is more them

Corinthians
Parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park
(1 Cor. 13)

It starts with love
Young thing -- I don't know why
You didn't read the letter our Lord supplied
With that in mind I revised this rhyme to explain to you guys all I know
Love is a wonderful thing
Watch the fly guys with the Benjamins sing
Watch the countdown that the MTV plays I got ticked by the way
It's so unreal -- Britney and Jennifer Lo
Watch the wardrobe -- looks like a window
Tryin' to hold on to itty bitty clothes
You pasted them on -- this is not true love
I guess everything's a hybrid breeding love and pride
In small jealous hearts
What it gets to be is essentially just a parody
Like this rhyme is of Linkin Park
You tried so hard -- but love's so far
Corinthians -- it doesn't even matter
If love's too small -- you lose it all
Corinthians -- first letter, thirteenth chapter
Love waits -- it's also kind
It doesn't envy, brag, or grow hard with pride
Keeps things polite, doesn't like to fight
It denies itself, while it tries no harm
If I have the faith and philosophy
Acting like I was smarter than Socrates
And every language and tongue and prophecy
I could die and not go far
If at the stake they burned me or
I could've given every dime to many poor
If love's lackin' throw me back then
Buddy, Paul wrote that to Corinthians
It bears everything, besides, believes and hopes, abides
That Paul fella's smart
Love he said to me will eventually keep no memory
Of your crimes 'cause it finds no fault
CHORUS
It likes what's just and true
Dislikes what's unrighteous though
Failure is the only one thing it can't know
The things that last are few
Just have faith and love and hope
From all these, there's only one thing you need most

1 Cor. 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I used to like LP quite a bit but then I just stop listening to it after a while. I think Slipknots pretty good but I lost my CD.:(

My son seems to like a band called" as I lay dieing"- the lyrics weren't overtly Christina but I really beleive I can see His heart being expressed in them.

Alot of my friends like "Emo" music... <_< >_> But that's because I have alot of Emo friends =P

(Note: My avatar person is an emo! No I'm not emo. I just think he is funny)

As i lay dying is "listed" as a Christian band. He may also enjoy Anberlin and As Cities Burn. As far a Christian Metal and metalcore, I tend to like Disciple and Underoath.

Before I was a Christian, I was heavilly into the metal scene, and have been to see bands such as Metallica, Machine Head and Slayer in concert.

Since becoming a Christian though, all I really feel the need to listen to is Worship music though.

That said, I still really like Slipknot, although I don't particularly see them as an advocation of the Christian lifestyle as their lyrics can come across as pretty grim at times.

If you like heavy bands though, try Third Day. They are a Christian Metal band, and are really good.

I cannot stand Slipknot.
I mean really, have you heard all the cussing in their music?
Linkin Park, also.

As I Lay Dying is pretty cool.
I love underOATH.
But my favorite band of all is Anberlin, they're just so amazing.
Their lyrics are just so deep.

Anberlin- The Unwinding Cable Car
Backing away from the problem of pain; you never had a home
You've been misguided, you're hiding in shadows for so very long
Don't you believe that you've been deceived that you're no better than...
The hair in your eyes, it never disguised what you're really thinking of

This is the correlation of salvation and love
Don't drop your arms
Don't drop your arms, I'll guard your heart
With quiet words I'll lead you in

Anberlin- Paperthin Hymn
When your only friends are hotel rooms,
Hands are distant lullabies
If I could turn around I would tonight

These roads never seemed so long
Since your paper heart stopped beating, leaving me suddenly alone
Will daybreak ever come?

Who's gonna call on Sunday morning?
Who's gonna drive you home?
I just want one more chance
To put my arms in fragile hands
I thought you said forever
(Over and over)
A sleepless night becomes bitter oblivion

These thoughts run through my head
(Over and over)
Complacent violence become my only friends

August evenings
Bring solemn warnings
To remember to kiss the ones you love goodnight

You never know what temporal days may bring
Laugh, love, live free and sing
When life is in discord,
Praise ye the Lord

Who's gonna call on Sunday morning?
Who's gonna drive you home?
I just want one more chance
To put my arms in fragile hands

I thought you said forever
(Over and over)
This sleepless night becomes bitter oblivion

These thoughts run through my head
(Over and over)
Complaints of violins become my only friends

Before i was saved.. i was pretty deep into heavy metal... slipknot was one of my favorite bands..

i had every one of their cd's.. i loved them..

as i look back .. thier songs just remind me of one of the darkest times in my life..

they only have 1 song that doesnt have cussing in it.. half of thier songs are about either killing someone or beating some one up. or feeling sick or alone. they even have a song calle "wait and bleed" and a commentary they did on the song they said its just a song about a guy that is dreaming he was in a tub with his wrists slit bleeding to death. and we wakes up to find that its true....

Slipknot is a Horrible band.. they are not satanic though.. ppl say this b/c thier bands number is 666 but they have a different meaning behind it.. they are not satanic.. but in no way are they a positive band..

and if i remember correctly. b/c i did a paper on slipknot back when i liked them.. their 1 christian member left the band b/c he figured out how horrible they were. and as a Christian he could not be a part of that any more..

as for linkin park.. i liked them as well. im not so against Linkin park.. but i still would not listen to them today. they are definatly not a Christian band.. just b/c they have 1 member who is Christian or a song or 2 that has a semi Christian double meaning to it. does not make them appropriate music for Christians..

I was under the impression that slipknot was a death metal group.
I used to hear things as a child.
Think what a slipknot is... Its a knot that is used when someone hangs themselves or gets hanged.

I dont listen to slipknot, but I do like the style of music. AND there is an alternative to this in the Christian world.
Linkin Park has songs that deal with the reality of the feelings people have whether or not they are leading a Christian lifestyle. I listen to Linkin Park because that is the genre of music I like. I have listented to their lyrics and by judging by that, it's not putting negative notations in my head. I find no fault at this point.

We have to understand that God can use a non-Christian band to bring someone to the understanding that feeling lost or under pressure or even about to give up in life is a hopeless way to live and there must be more out there. He did for me.

Linkin Park, Beach Boys, Beatles and Nickelback are the only "NON" christian bands that I can listen to, the rest I listen to nothing but Christian music. (We have an awesome Christian Rock station where I live) But that is my own conviction. We have to becareful and not put God in a box, however, we do have to get on a personal level with Jesus to know what is right or wrong for each of us.

Just as with all things in life we are commanded to judge something--everything by it's fruits.
Matthew 7:20 So by their fruit you will know them.

It's not about the genre of music, it's about what's in the song. Judge the song by it's lyrics. If they are negative and will cause you to stumble? I would suggest according to God's word to stay away from it.
Listening to music that will justify fighting someone or commit violent acts is definately wrong. It is wrong because of what influence it will have on a person.

Also, just to throw this out there,
Romans 16:17 Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create divisions and sinful enticements that oppose the teaching you have learned. Stay away from them,

Music is a very powerful thing. It can and DOES influence a person. Becareful out there. Keep a watchful eye not to be deceived. ;)
