Skeletons Of The Capuchins

  1. Many years ago I was a great admirer of St Francis of Assisi,
    but the most spiritual of these were the Capuchin, and I looked into becoming one.
    [the cappuccino coffee is named after the color of their clothes.].
    Sadly I was not a catholic and life led me in other directions.
    in 1631 the remains of thousands of Capuchin friars were exhumed and transferred from the friary on the Via dei Lucchesi to the crypt. The bones were arranged along the walls in varied designs

    What you are now, we used to be. What we are now, you will be.

  2. Nothing like the fear of death leading to its worship.

    Sad nothing really changes in some.
     
  3. You misunderstand them completely. It was not "fear of death" that motivated them at all.
    Just a gentle reminder that life is fleeting and to be prepared for the next world.

    There is hardly a more life affirming group than the Capuchins.
