Sabbath 7/23/16 Seventh Day Baptist of Daytona Pastor Wray sermon “God Is In Control!! “ Haggai 2”20-23

We live in a world filled with turmoil and trouble. Things are bad and getting worse. I want to remind us that God is still in control! Circumstances can blind us and we forget who is in control. We get doubt and fear in our minds. I want to remind you who is in control. It is not the republicans or democrats or the President or any judges that are in control. God Almighty is in control. He always has been and always will be in control. God, our Heavenly Father, is the one in control and He is all powerful and omnipotent. God is everywhere at all times. There is nothing new we can tell him. He knows what’s happening in our lives. Jesus said the very hairs of our head are numbered and God knows the number. We are more valuable to God than any birds!

God sent the prophet Haggai to declare a message of encouragement. God, in His wisdom, is in control.

  1. Sovereignty:

God is the supreme authority. He is sovereign and in control of our lives. God reminds us in the text that He is in control. He has a sovereign plan for this world, this church and for you as an individual. We must be willing vessels and willing servants that God can use to carry out his sovereign plan. God will tell us through his Word what He wants us to do. There will be a direct message sent to us from his Word. We must be willing servants that trust God, have faith in God and will do what He tell us. We must follow God’s plan.

  2. Supreme Power:

God has the power to accomplish anything He wants. Period! In our text, God tells how He will overthrow the heathen and bring the enemy down. God says He will shake the heavens and overthrow the evil kingdoms of the earth. God retains supreme power no matter how it may look around us. God is so powerful that He can even use his enemies to accomplish His will. We should be comforted in this power God has. He has power over nature, over rulers and power over our enemies.

The Bible says, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” We have no need to fear anybody because God is more powerful. We can trust God to see us through no matter how difficult the circumstances. There is no need to fear anyone or anything because God is in control. Once we realize this, we should have no fear of anything and there is nothing that can stop us from reaching our goals. If God brought you to it, He will see you through it!

  3. Special People:

In our text, God chooses Zerubbabel to accomplish a specific task. God had a job for him to do. God used him to help the people of Israel. God had lots of people He could have chosen from but God chose Zerubbabel. One reason he was chosen is because Zerubbabel was a willing vessel. He was available to the Lord for Him to use. God has a purpose for those He selects and it’s a privilege to be chosen to be used in God’s plan. God selects special people.

In the book of Revelations, we are told we get rewards= five crowns for what we do for Jesus. Every deed done in the name of Jesus will be rewarded. We will be rewarded for simply being willing vessels for God to use. In Revelations it says how worthy God is and how God created all things for His pleasure. We are saved to serve and are selected for a purpose. When things go crazy, remember that God is in control. God has a plan, He possesses supreme power and selects special people, you and I.

Even though the task may seem impossible, remember that God is in control. He has the power to do all things. Pray that God will guide our lives in such a manner that others will want God to guide them too.

AMEN
