To begin, I can only assume this in regards to Christian religion.

We've had many discussions on here regarding religion itself, and each one fascinates me. I think part of it is because religion, to so many, have different meanings.

To some, religion is what the pharisees were guilty of. Religion to them is the same exact thing as hypocrisy. Religion to them is denying the spirit of the law and just going by the law itself. Therefor, to them, religion is evil.

To others, religion is subjective. It's about rules and doing things because God asks us to, but its not necessary. Because a relationship with God is the most important thing (which I believe is true), the rest be damned...if you want.

And to others (like myself), religion is man's response to God. It is an act of obedience because we love God--because He is our best friend. Christ brought fruition to religion. He fulfilled the law--not abolished it. For instance, we've been commanded to participate in communion, to baptize and be baptized, etc. etc. Our faith is what should lead us to religion. When we go to church, pray for each other, evangelize, or help others in Christ's name, we are participating in religion BECAUSE we have faith.

Religion without faith is indeed empty and would equal hypocrisy. However, faith without religion is like being non-responsive.

The link you provided didn't provide any scriptural evidence. I agree with the author when he said Religion and Faith are two different things, but he seems to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

    Verses that support religion:
    James 1:26-27, Matthew 18:17-18, 2 Thessalonians 2:15, 1 Timothy 3:15, Matthew 5:17-20, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21...
  2. I think Lysander has hit upon the most important issue in the "anti-religion" movement.
First, what is meant by the term "religion", and when do you stop "cutting the fat" and start cutting meat?
By all this I mean, it is perfectly reasonable and biblical to be against the mindless and often arbitrary rules and regulations that folks tend to heap onto their religious practices, as an example I would list "speaking in tongues" as
a requirement for salvation. This is not only unbiblical but also completely arbitrary. Why not just add "walking on water" while we're at it?
Too often modern thought goes to an atmosphere of complete freedom from "religion", which ends up being a complete lack of doctrine, and a descent into heresy and chaos. The Unitarians are a good example of this, their doctrine is that they have no doctrine, so anything goes.
"Religion" means "rules". Just make sure you're using God's rules and not man's rules.
    LysanderShapiro likes this.
  3. I think the Unitarian Church is a great example of how a removal of religion completely can lend division between man and God.
  4. It is very complicated if we are going to site some examples. It would be much better if we are all going to look for the Bible and try to research all of our questions. It could be much easier that way.
  5. What do you mean by this statement?
  6. In my personal experience, 'religion', allbeit probably with the best intentions, lead me away from God. Letting go if it brought me closer to God. Am I unresponsive? No. I respond.
  7. What is religion?
  8. Our English word religion comes to us from the Latin word re-lique, which means to re-bind, so religion is anything that would rebind us after we have been set free Luke 4:18 in the Liberty we have through Salvation coming from receiving John 1:12 Jesus Christ,

...simply put religion is rules, regulations and/or rituals we adopt or are imposed on us, not found in the Scriptures for us today, by men and not God.

  9. Thanks, Gene.

This was more of a philosophical question to BusyDarling to open up a bigger discussion.
  10. Religion as it is understood by the world is not biblical. They think Christianity is about traditions, ceremonies, rituals, liturgies, candles, stained-glass, organ music, blind faith, etc. Churches may contain one or more of these things, but they are not the focus.

In the Bible, the word "religion" (greek threskeia) is never used to describe how someone is to live as a Christian except in James 1:27, where the worldly ceremonial-worship sense is abandoned and a new practical sense is given: "Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world." Religion of this type is good, biblical, and godly.
Mr. Darby and Brother_Mike_V say Amen and like this.
  11. As a former member of the LDS cult I had to study; that many churches have left the central biblical message very much. Own faith, Bible interpretations and traditions were the reason that many churches were founded which one of their own everyone refers to the Bible. Although some of them have to do so much with the Bible, like a politician with honesty.
  12. I have to agree with Gene and Fadingman!
  13. Jutta H, welcome to the family!

Glad to hear you escaped from the brain washing the cults use to enslave their captives, I know it was tough, my friend, have a lot to thank Jesus for just in that fact alone.

  14. Yeah, Gene, the LDS is a cult! But I'm NOT a Christian. I'm a PAGAN (Wicca). And i don't want to be a part of any Christian church, because they don't understand (and even don't want to understand) my "Special" Problem TS. They want to cure me, but wirh me everything is okay, TS is not wrong as scientists prooved.

BTW: What did you think about my Avatar?
  15. You may be the only Wiccan here. Welcome to this forum.

What brought you to the conclusion that Paganism is right out of curiosity?
  16. Oops! see what happens when I assume, oh well, you're here and that isn't by accident, but by the Divine Will of God whether you believe it or not, ...AND you have inadvertently triggered a multitude of "Christians" to start praying for your salvation, to be washed by the BLOOD of Lamb, God's Son, Jesus Christ, Savior, Lord, King, the Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, to Him be the Glory, Dominion and Power for ever and ever. Amen and amen!!!

Whom (Jesus Christ) God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his BLOOD,

Much more then, being now justified by His (Jesus Christ) BLOOD,

In whom (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through His BLOOD, the forgiveness of sins,

But now in Christ Jesus you who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the BLOOD of Christ.

And, having made peace through the BLOOD of His (Jesus Christ) cross,

How much more shall the BLOOD of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

And almost all things are by the law purged with BLOOD; and without shedding of BLOOD is no remission.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the Holiest by the BLOOD of Jesus,

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with His own BLOOD, suffered outside the gate.

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, through the BLOOD of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be Glory for ever and ever. Amen.

  17. Jutta, it is human nature that people often react wrongly to things that they do not understand. That is common to members of all religions; it is a part of basic human nature. Some of these Christians may have wronged you, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone connected with Christianity will treat you in that manner.
  18. Jutta, my friend, I'm sorry I didn't answer you question, reminds me of a little red headed boy I knew in childhood.

I won't make the mistake of assuming again, ...fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, but if you thought you avatar would scare or frighten me you misjudged, for you see, numerous times I have had warlocks and witches come on my property and try to cast a spells on me, I'm washed in the BLOOD of the Lamb, ...greater is He that is in me than he who you serve.

Now I have a question for you, ...I've heard that when joining the church of wicca you sign your name with your blood and when it dries it is black, is that true, I have also heard that when a wiccan renounces satan and turns to the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, washed by the BLOOD of the Lamb, that same blood in the book turns green, it that true also?

  19. What is TS? Are we talking about Turner Syndrome? What's the relevance of this?
