psalms

Daniel, the word Psalm ( 'salm' ) comes from the Hebrew Word "mizmowr" [ most commonly, # 4210 in the Concordance - Hebrew Dictionary] and means, "... by implementation, a poem set to notes or music". That is why most good quality Bibles have a header before the various Psalms that gives instructions to the Choir Director or musicians such as this example from Psalm 80: "For The Choir Director; a psalm of Asaph, to be sung to the tune 'Lilies of the Covenant".

The Psalms were almost entirely written by King David and are a wonderful insight in to his personal covenant with Our Father.
