Proverbs 10:19 "Multitude of Words."

Discussion in 'Biblical Advices' started by JoWilli, Nov 17, 2006.

  1. Proverbs 10:19 "Multitude of Words."

Proverbs 10:19 (KJV), "In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise."

This maxim from God is clearly referring to spoken words, rather than written, since it frames its own context by speaking only of "lips."

Jesus observably in Scripture followed this Proverb, since it can be shown He spoke only briefly upon any one topic. His answers to a wide range of questions and problematic situations were brief, terse, pointed, and short. None of His explanations were of the babbling 30-40 minute lengths seen today every Sunday.

Apostle Paul, not being beyond sin, demonstrated the stark sinfulness of excessive speech by causing the death of a listener. Professional church talkers should heed this lesson.

Praise God for the relevance, clarity, and authority of His Word.
