Prayer, why

Prayer, Why?
Why, when we pray
do we set,
terms and conditions?
If you do as I ask … I will,
Trying to bribe an answer?
If it’s your will, just incase
Covering all the options,

Why be like a bull dog with a wasp
Keep gnashing at the problem?
Try to resolve the situation,
then expecting God to ratify your favoured option?

Why offer choices, second guess, go through your shopping list?
Why not just shut up and listen?

Why such a long monologue
A one sided conversation,
Leaving God open mouthed
Seemingly not saying much,
Maybe He can’t get a word in edgewise in this intercession

Does using thou’s and thee’s
Make the prayer more sincere?
And shouting at God
In an American accent
Get Gods attention ?

Does taking on the persona of
Uriah Heep proud to be
humble in His presence?
Get your pray higher up the list to be favoured with His attention?

Talking condescendingly
down to Him
Like talking to a senior citizen
Will this get His attention?
He may be old,
Well, He created the world
Was there at the beginning,

Why not just say
Dad, have you a moment for a chat?
Want to pick your brains,
Have you any ideas,
For this situation?

Prayer should be the response of one's soul, the deep cries of one's heart, the yearning from within to converse with our Father in Heaven. Prayer if lifted from the depth of despair rises on the compassionate wings of angels towards the throne of God. In response God sends peace in the midst of pain, rest in the midst of struggles and hope in the midst of hopelessness. Without Prayer that genuinely comes from a contrite heart prayer becomes only a bargaining tool used to draw one's needs from God. Prayer must be both respectful and truthful asked in unshakeable faith in a compassionate God. He is aware of our needs even before we cry out in prayer. In the deep well of suffering we experience there is only one way to find relief, look up, raise your arms to God in prayer and reverence and relief will come in His perfect timing. Don't let despair dampen your life with the overwhelming flow of tears, let God wipe away your tears and lift your soul above the flooding waters, rise on wings like Eagles and soar above the storm. Tsavah2, might I suggest you try writing some poetry or prose. What I can glean from your response...

theres an overwhelming flow of tears
as God Himself wipes away my fears,
they rise like on eagles wings above
on His feathers my heart filled with love,
in His compassion I may rest well
to rise again lifted from despairs spell~
It is interesting the way people respond my poems,
Being a grumpy old pew warmer over the last 70 years I have experienced first hand all the characters and characteristics related in this poem
Reading and editing the poem made me think!
And if reading it, it provokes anybody to think enough to put pen to paper whether I agree or not, great!!!
It’s got someone, somewhere to think about their prayer life with Father

Job done

From an early age I wrote poetry as an outlet and when I met my wife I told her that I wrote poetry and she shared that she too wrote poetry. Over the years we have used poetry to encourage others, both in Church and in personal situations, unfortunately never had any published. As I near the three score and ten I am currently compiling my poetry. Thank you for your advice. I for one find it easy to express myself in print rather than verbally. God Bless from Tsavah2

I dont wish to formally publish any of mine, as I feel it is a gift from the Lord to share freely.
He shares so much with me~

Hugs and happiness to you Tsavah2, and you're welcome :)
A talent is not a talent unless it’s shared, publishing is in many form in this day and age especially with the internet, l love this forum as a way to share my scribblings, some have said will never amount to much!
But I have been inspired to write them
I bet some of the best sermons ever were given in front of a bathroom mirror
When ever I start to think what I write is poor, not good enough to be published etc, etc I am reminded that
Jesus said go into all the world to preach the gospel ( didn’t say how)
I am also very conscious of Matthew 25:14
It’s not for me to say where poems finish up, who/ how they are read and used
Don’t question it, do it!

And there was me just going to reply with a smiley face😊

I feel the love on this site :)
It adds happiness to my heart having you join us in these poetry pages Tsavah2 .
Maybe we will all be blessed if you decide to share a write sometime.
Thank you for your encouragement and with the Lord's leading I will share those verses that have been a comfort over the years. God in His mercy has given us some beautiful poetry that both inspires and lifts our spirits to heights above. In my case my poetry has become like my children, loved and nurtured over the years. God Bless from Tsavah2
