Jonah 3:5-6

Jonah 3:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

Jonah 3:5-6 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

5 The people of Nineveh believed in God. They announced they would stop eating for a while. They put on rough cloth to show how sad they were. All the people in the city wore the cloth. People from the most important to the least important did this.

6 When the king of Nineveh heard this news, he got up from his throne. He took off his robe. He covered himself with rough cloth and sat in ashes to show how upset he was.

5 The people accepted the message and turned to God in repentance, this is how we should want people to react when we share God’s message with them, that they receive it. They fasted this was to start to purify their bodies from all the corruption they had in them by doing this it gave honor and glory to God. Clothes from hair had to be uncomfortable; they didn’t want to go back to where they were.

6 This showed that the king was also repenting, the people moved the king, this can happen with the people devoted to the Lord it can move leaders to seek God.
