How To Grow In Christ After I've Lost Sight?

Discussion in 'New Members Welcome' started by John104, Jun 29, 2014.

  1. Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and this is my first Christian forum. I'm a saved young adult, and have walked with God for a long time, I am 20 years of age. A few years ago lost all sight and focus, I've strayed from the path and now I feel lost and I can't seem to find my way. I joined to get some advice as I want to grow in Christ again, and find happiness, comfort, and peace.

It feels as if my problems are un-fixable, I've lost my faith and I am in doubt, I tend to overthink a lot and I am very open minded to science and speculation, I like to question and look at things intelligently from all views, but it has gotten me nowhere, I feel like I've gone off the simple route and entered the complicated life of reasoning everything. I just want to go back to believing again, I know its good to question but point is, we all die, and I don't want to die oneday still wondering what to believe and doubting history, the bible and God, I want to grow strong in christ again, and believe and have faith, because that helps me a lot, and when I have that its like things make sense, so if anyone understands what I saying, I'd like some help in finding my way, I'd appreciate your opinions on this trusted site, as well as your experiences aswell.

I know God exists, God has proven to me many times he is there, and that he loves me, I just need guidance on how to be a faithful believer again, and I felt this forum would be a great place to ask for help. Thank you for reading this.

    God Bless
  2. I’ve been to atheist forum sites for quite some time....
The topics revolve around science, philosophy, critical thinking, human rights, equality, freedom of choice, etc….
Summarizing the above: it is within context of worldly wisdom.

that is: worldly wisdom falsely tries to define what is moral, what is Justice, even: what is real....

I came to (a personal) conclusion: that those are the deep secrets of satan : i.e., worldly wisdom as mentioned in Revelation.

    In contrast to spiritual wisdom.

    Revelation 2:18-29

    New King James Version (NKJV)
    The Corrupt Church
18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith,[a] and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow[b] that woman[c] Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce[d] My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.[e] 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their[f] deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
24 “Now to you I say, and[g] to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will[h] put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—
    27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’[i]—

as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.
29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

    Corinthians 2
    New King James Version (NKJV)

    Christ Crucified

2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony[a] of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human[b] wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
    Spiritual Wisdom
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”[c]
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy[d] Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?”[e] But we have the mind of Christ.

  3. Hi Aha, firstly thank you for your response and for taking the time to try and answer my question. I have completely overlooked the fact that there can be more than one type of wisdom and this makes absolute sense, I've read through the scriptures and even extended my outlook to try and find more bible scriptures on the topic and I'm amazed that I've overlooked this important fact. I've tried for long to look into worldly wisdom and you're right "Those are deep secretes of satan". It has gotten me no where but leading me deeper into more doubt and questions, detering me from the Spiritual wisdom from the bible and from my belief in Christ. I've looked at topics from theories of evolution, to astronomical theories, to extraterrestrial theories, even at all the systems such as monetary, religious, political etc to the theories of reality, space and time . I've looked at history of cultures and religions, its all convincing, but has taught me nothing about myself, my reason for existence, and what I can live for, stand for and die for in life. Its scattered facts with no solid explanation for why we exist or why we're here . But this Spiritual wisdom, it seems like the bases and answer to all confusion. I'm quite exited to look into this, and feel it'll help grow my faith and true understanding in Christ. Much appreciated. Not a lot of people have this type of understanding when it comes to this type of deep discussions (could refer to it as highly spiritual) but I'm glad someone out there could understand and offer their support. Thank you
  4. Hi John104, welcome to the site. :) Maybe a place to start would be to pray to God to clear and purge your mind of the worldly wisdom and implant spiritual wisdom, to give you the faith that his word is truth and worldly wisdom that contradicts the truth has to be false no matter how appealing it may seem. It sounds like maybe you already are but reading and studying Scripture daily should be helpful.

May I ask what started you down the path of investigating/considering worldly wisdom?

Aha your distinction between worldly wisdom and spiritual wisdom is interesting. :)

1Co 3:18-20 NASB Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. (19) For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; (20) and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS."
  5. Hi porcupine73, thank you for your response and taking the time to read my situation, you won't believe it but I just had a good prayer session and prayed for exactly what you suggested just before I read this notification and I feel really blessed, guided and at peace. I've read a few scriptures now and then, but it feels as if I need to make it a good habit and not an action due to troubled times only, as you say " studying scripture daily". And to your question, I guess I always had an inquisitive mind and always wanted to know the reason to everything, I hated not knowing something and that forced me to follow the road of worldly wisdom, forgetting about who God is, and forgetting the bible and a life of prayer, forgetting what being humbled, simple and down to earth really is, and in turn losing my faith and focus. So I decided (today) that I'm done with worldly wisdom, and I want to focus on God, and only God. Through prayer and bible study. This forum allowed me to openly speak and bring up these topics speaking with like minded people, and for that I am grateful. Thank you porcupine73 for your help, and for the blessed scriptures.
