How to Evangelize to Friends who are not saved.

Discussion in 'Evangelism' started by idreamofsilence, Jul 27, 2010.

  1. How to Evangelize to Friends who are not saved.

I have many friends who are not saved. One is an ex-catholic and pretty anti-christian, another is a hare krishna, and some who are muslim. I feel as though sometimes I just want them to hear me speak the Word but without pointing it out at them because I feel that would turn them further. I am not sure what to do?

  2. Live your life filled with the Love of God. Let Him work through you.

And when people ask you why you're different, you can tell them.

You're not forcing God on them, you're showing them the God who loves them and sent His Son to die for them.

Oh, and don't forget to pray that the Spirit will soften their hearts and open their eyes and ears to accept the message.

  3. Thank you much. I have many discussions with my hare krishna friend. He is really into it and was a former Christian so thats what I think would make it harder to talk to him about since he grew up in the church kinda. But I do pray for them and I think the best thing I was taught was to just allow them to speak to you about their beliefs. First it reaffirms my own in knowing I have the Truth of Jesus Christ in my life. Secondly, it helps them to understand I am not there to judge them. God is judge, not me. The more conversation I have and the more I share my points equally with them without refuting back points, I feel it has helped more than if I were to just tell them they need to do this or that... because they already know.. they just aren't at that point yet.

  4. Dont be overly spiritual - its a great way to overall reach people.
You do not want the first thing to come in to a non-believers head to be "wow this person is nuts"
    Because that scares people away.

The Holy Spirit is humble and wont force Himself on to anyone that isnt ready, so people need to stop thinking all non-believers will see that they are "lead by Holy Spirit", because they are setting themselves up for disappointment and not getting it.
You need to be able to discern the right attitude for the right time.
You will save more people by showing the love of Jesus and being happy in life, way more.

    Paul's examples are great;
He would be like a jew to reach the jews, be down in the gutter to reach someone down in the gutter and so on.
    1 Cor 9 (NIV)
19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

  6. Hey, I acually got alot of this off Joyce Mayer today (Its been in my head for ages, but I never received conformation till today!), who was speaking this same sort of msg when I was replying LOL!!!
I would just like to add, that while they cant SEE the Spirit, this still applies:
Because God can do work on them and praying is sooo powerful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :D
I know, you know this, just correcting my error

  7. Wonderful. And I think the Holy Spirit does just that. It condemns a person in such a way that eventually/possibly they may feel it... and know there is a change that needs to be made... but God is so wonderful in that way.. He gives us a choice... He is not pushy. =)

  8. I know what you mean about wanting to tell your friends about Jesus... I have the same issue and I especially would like my Dad to be saved.

I feel that praying and asking God for oppertunities for you to speak about him may help. I ask God for just a 'how was your weekend?' question just so that I can tell them I went to church on Sunday. Even that is sowing a seed in your friends, and you just need to let God do the rest. Keep praying :)

  9. Personal relationships and living by example I think make the biggest impact. Greg Laurie had some good advice in his article that I recommend. Very insightful and easy to apply.

  10. That's probably what changed my perception about evangelism. I used to see evangelism as the public speaking type but now I know its more of a life-style than preaching. I still support full-on preaching in a big way.

  11. There are many ways to reach the lost, and God makes use of them all.

I also believe personal relationships are the most effective.

  12. They are very effective. I have seen many of my friends come to Christ through personal relationships.

  13. My I give you some help here?

For many years I used the Roman Road to salvation and still do when appropreate. But in every situation you have to ask a question to start. Many soul winners have used this phrase..............................................
"IF YOU DIED TONIGHT WOULD YOU GO TO HEAVEN"?

That tends to put the lost person on the defensive and I would not advise that. To keep their attention open with a simple, innocent not intrusive question.

The one I like to use is..........."In your opinion, what do you think it takes for a person to go to heaven"?

I would say that the answer will be in 8 out of 10 times......."I am a GOOD person".

The door to conversaton is now open. You should then say to the lost person, May I tell you what the Bible says about this? --------- IT TAKES ..........."FAITH".

Hold up your hand with ONE finger up and say the letter "F".

Explain that the letter "F" stands for FORGIVNESS of sins as told to us in Ephesians 1:7

Then put up a second finger and announce the letter "A". You now have two fingers you are holding up. F & A. Announce that the letter "A" stands for AVAILABLE only from God as found in John 3:16.

With those two fingers up, put up a third finger and say, ""I". You now have F-A-I. The letter "I" stands for impossible. It is IMPOSSIBLE for any sin to enter into Heaven and the Bible tells us that in Romans 3:23.

Now to the fouth finger and announce that it stands for the letter "T". We must TURN from our sin and to Christ as found in Romans 10:19.

Then lastly, put up your thumb and announce that it stands for the letter "H" as found in the word HEAVEN in John 14:3.

You have now spelled the word FAITH and given an explination of each letter and it will take you no more than 3-5 minutes to do this.

Now is the time when you have spelled out the word FAITH on your hand to look the person in the eye and say .........
"Having heard what the Bible says about how we can get to heaven, would like to receive the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior".

    FAITH....Forsaking All I Trust Him.

If they say no. Then ask to pray for them.

If they say yes. Then ask them to repeat the sinners prayer with you.

If they say NO....you can be confident that you have planted some seeds of thinking in them.

  14. It's hard when you are a lousy failure like me an ill alcoholic... But one can still state ones believe if a subject arises, one can defend ones belief. What I personally don't believe you can do is batter another person into mental submission. My admittedly ignorant view as I have yet to find my own way is that ultimately a conversion is a matter strictly between Christ and the individual - it is not something we can control.

  15. Agreed.

But WHY would anyone want to batter anyone into submission???

  16. I think it is a too strong desire to prove you are right. It can happen with atheists, other believers and IMO some professed Christians.

  17. Why do you call yourself a failure? There is nothing like a saved person being a failure. Quit talking like that.
A mans belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth and with the increase of his lips shall he be fed.

  18. Then speak the Word. God gave us this CHANCE to spread the gospel, and when we don't, then it's going to lie on us for not sharing them the gospel. Every breath you take, you have a chance to share the good news. The good news is basically telling them about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins :)

It's hard to minister to people because we don't like confrontation. But Jesus wasn't liked. I mean, why do you think people crucified him? They hated him.

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. When you evangelize, you gotta tell the WHOLE truth. Meaning, telling them where they'll spend eternity if they do not repent of their sins and turn to Christ.
But don't talk all about that. But you do have to include it. A lot of people avoid it, because it will turn nonchristians away. But if you leave out ANY of the gospel, then you are not sharing the TRUE gospel. And God has called us to share the WHOLE gospel.

I'll email you some books. I'm in an evangelizing class at my Bible college and the books are really good to read. They taught me a lot =)

  19. Tell them the kingdom of God is near. That is what Jesus told His disciples and it worked pretty well
Heal the sick, raise the dead and cleanse the lepers
There is more to this that if we do we will not talk to much

  20. ><> ><> You are possible the only representative of jesu that they know. I agree; be who God made you to be don't try to be what you may have seen around you.

Friendship evangelisum does work. Remember those people who said they thought you were a Christian. Or ''Sorry I didn't mean to sware in front of you, while not knowing you were a Christian.
