Am curious to see what people think when it comes to the "End Times" prophecy...
...and people are curious about what you think about this...
I would like to hear from our resident parishioner, Glomung: If he has a take on this I would prefer to hear him and bypass any screwball theories, if he cares to comment.
This is a unusual event in RCC history, no doubt!
Not sure if you were serious or not...but anyway...I guess you could say I am "on the fence" when it comes to the idea of whether or not the 7 kings refer to popes, and the city on seven mountains is Rome.Which then the idea of Pope John Paul II being 'raised' as the primary antichrist at end times.(Revelation 13, Revelation 17-the beast/ the woman, etc..)
I am aware of other 'theories'; but once again this could lead to wild tangents and irrational arguments.
No...I'm serious....despite the cartoon Gaulist!
I highly respect Glomung's representation of Catholic norms. He seems a straight shooter. He seems a bloke a rational Protest-ant (me) can parlay with.
Ehhhh...I'm not a prophesy literalist....and do not see 7 kings having papal rosters, actually. Nor downtown, Roma, Italia as God's point.....But I will give myself time to unfold my perspective, as the things of God are not captured in in nutshell dialogues, are they?
Rusty - thanks for the high praise!
As to Obelix, haven't seen that cartoon in years.
The Papal resignation is unusual, but I would take the pope at his word and suggest that failing health has become a burden that greatly interferes with his mission.
As to other questions and theories
None of the Popes have been or ever will be the antichrist/an antichrist or otherwise enemy of God.
Despite the amount of hate and disinformation thrown at them, the Popes have been (by and large) pious and decent fellows with a very difficult job (which some have handled better than others). We haven't had any real jerks in the papacy since the Medici and Borgia popes of the middle ages.
Rome is a city on seven hills, so is Albany, New York,
Istanbul, Moscow, Bombay, Jerusalem, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Will find out which one (or all) gets destroyed in the Tribulation.
Personally I believe that "there will not be one stone left upon another" in any city.
As to Malachy's Prophecy, we will find out. Peter Turkson would fulfill it literally in name, though he is not from Rome.
To the skeptics, how does one write down a list of personages that are accurate in detail for 800 years without having some inside information?
Funny you should use the exact rebuttal to the 7 hills that I used on another forum. Ahhh...the dangers of geographical (and in this case topographical) literalism....Lot's of force-fitting abounds!...
Yes...I heard that the pope bopped his head badly in Mexico and what with a pace-maker?? Way too much on the man. He needs some rest and good German food...I wager he will retire somewhere secluded and Germanic...maybe in his brother's town (and one of my favourites) Regensberg.
He is going to the Mater Ecclesiae monastery in Madrid. Which kind of surprises
me also, not exactly the swankest of establishments. Perhaps he has developed
a desire for austerity after his years as Pope.
Yow! Or maybe that's his cover....to throw off the paparazzi......
Like you I am curious to know as well. As far as I understand, the only people qualified to break down end time mysteries/prophecies:
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Psa 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
We just have to be careful considering what Rev 2,Rev 3 makes clear to us. Also, I'm still testing but I'm leaning towards Rev 13 speaking on Empires. I also have a view on what's actually taking place with the Pope's resignation but, since I believe it's serving more as a distraction, I'm going to keep those thoughts to myself.
Ahhhh..but who are the "saints" and what is their "sacrifice"?
In OT times, the material sacrifice (sin offering, wave offering, heave offering, etc) was the type...now we must ask "What is the anti-type, what is the spiritual equivalent?"
I guess we need to ask the hard questions here. Can any sacrifice made by man really make a covenant with the Lord??
Psa 50:5 "Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
Psa 50:5 from the Septuagint. GatheredG4863 to himG1473 G3588 are his sacred ones,G3741 G1473 the onesG3588 ordainingG1303 G3588 his covenantG1242 G1473 withG1909 sacrifices.G2378
Sounds like the panel of seventy + recognized that the covenant was the property of the one who made it....the Lord.
And He is the only one who can make a covenant. Covenants are made by the head Honcho always...never by the subjects.
OK, so read on...Psa 50:13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Psa 50:14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,
Psa 50:15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."
I believe this whole passage looks forward to the New Covenant made by Christ with his own body and Blood.
Paul said it best: Galatians 2:20
Mmmmm....the Levites worked in the Temple as a job, not as a mediators of grace, IMO, Calvin. The Hebrew sinner brought the offering, not the Levites.
The sacrifices themselves did nothing: it was God's Spirit working in the sinners heart that acted out the death of Christ in the future that brought connection, and forgiveness IF truly repentant.
Also... if folks do not accept the Sacrifice of Christ by their own self being crucified (sacrificed?) the benefits are lost to that person.
The OT sacrifices were real and tangible, so was the death or Our Lord; but what your Galatians shows is the spiritual death of ourselves. No one need do this:
Yes he did.......don't want to show him up is all.
The price is paid-the gift given....
but a sinner need repent and receive.
Colossians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, 2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who are the "saints"?
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
We know who the book of the covenant was given to in Exodus 24. Yes, I believe they are the lost tribes of Israel. They are out there somewhere and they will at some point in the future be gathered back together through Christ to help restore order in this earth. I don't believe they would keep the sacrificial law today as they did in old times since Christ took it away. Also, I don't believe the Levites would be trying to operate under the Levitical priesthood as they did since they would learn that Christ is now Priest. They would however, continue observing their HolyDays and eating only clean foods. We know many of them are scattered and have no idea who they are since it was prophesied they'd loose their heritage.
Also, some additional passages to examine regarding these people:
Deu 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
Psa 147:19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
Psa 147:20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
But in context to the precepts I mentioned earlier, while we are all saints if we follow Christ as the scripture saith , we should examine any individuals claiming to be of the lost tribes to see if they fit the curses. If they can prove they fit the curses, that's who we should go to for understanding on prophecies/mysteries ( . ) If you're being taught by any other individuals, if they themselves have not been taught by them, you run the risk of being told a lie. That is my belief regarding the topic of the matter. So at this time I've decided to focus my attention to anyone claiming to be of Israel. With that, I'm also examining who is suffering in this earth today. Tribe attributes and curses such as Malachi 2:3 along with just gaining knowledge on the history of all nations on this earth to see if there are any inconsistencies. These are some areas I've decided to devote my time towards while checking everything back to the bible to see if it lines up with scriptures and prophecy. Hope you all have a blessed study. Be diligent in your search for truth. Stay encouraged.
Joh 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
