Easter Sabbath 4/15/17 Seventh Day Baptist of Edgewater, FL Pastor John sermon “The Open Tomb” Matthew 28:1-6

After the crucifixion, the disciples were hiding in the upper room for fear of the Jews. Their door was closed and locked but Jesus got into the room anyway. In our text, the tomb was open, but not for Jesus to get out. It was open for us, the people, to see that Jesus was risen and gone! The disciples were not ready for the body of Jesus to be missing. When the women showed up at the tomb with spices and Jesus was gone they were very surprised. The Angel asked them why they were seeking the living among the dead. The Angel then told them to tell the people that Jesus was risen just like He had said.

Later the Bible tells us that Jesus appeared unto many people after His resurrection. In Acts, Jesus appeared for the last time to the disciples and told them to spread the gospel to all nations. Jesus then ascended back up to Heaven in front of them all. Today, we that are of the Family of God, will take communion as instructed by Jesus Christ. He said to do this in remembrance of Him. We are to eat of the bread and drink of the cup until Jesus returns. We do this in remembrance of the Lord’s Supper and we are also thinking of the empty tomb.

The Good News today is that the Lord Jesus is Risen! We rejoice in the proclamation of the Resurrection!!

AMEN
