Death and life are in the power of the tongue....

Of every tree of the garden we may freely eat. There is no law against the eating of every tree of the garden….that is, the fruit of the Spirit.

Genesis 2:16
(16) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat

There is no law against love, joy, peace, etc. for we are free to eat of the fruit of the Spirit in the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:22-26 KJV
(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(23) Meekness, temperance
: against such there is no law.
(24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
(25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

But let us not be like the woman in the garden who desired to be seen as wise and reached out and took of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and did eat. Let us not be desired to be seen as wise in our own eyes….being desirous of our own vain glory…and speak evil of another (judging them)…provoking one another.

(26) Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Genesis 3:6 KJV
(6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

The woman desired to be seen as wise. But, who is the wise person endued with knowledge among us? One that shows out of a good behavior his works with meekness of wisdom.

James 3:
(13) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
(14) But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
(15) This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
(16) For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
(17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
(18) And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace
.

There is the law of sin and death.

We are NOT to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for if we continue to eat of it, then we shall die…our mortal bodies shall die. “thou shall surely die” is literally translated as : “killing, we shall die”. That is, if we use our mouths to bear bad fruit by speaking evil of others, we shall die for what comes out of the mouth defiles the mortal body.

We can NOT use our mouths to BOTH bless God AND curse other men. We are as trees bearing fruit with our mouths. Death and life are in the power (Hebrew: HAND) of the tongue and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it. What comes out of the mouth defiles the “man”….the mortal body.

Genesis 2:
(17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

We can not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and live. We can not use the SAME MOUTH for blessing God AND cursing men which are made after the similitude of God. We are not as “gods”…that is, JUDGES…knowing what is good and evil and so judge others with our tongues as being evil because we are desirous to be seen as wise.

James 3:8-18 KJV
(8) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
(9) Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
(10) Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
(11) Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Can the fig tree bear olive berries also?

(12) Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

We can not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil….judging others with our tongues….speaking evil of them. Do not believe the lie. We are not doing God “service” by “killing” others with our tongues…being judge, jury and executioner of them because we are the “wise one”.

Genesis 3:1-6 KJV
(1) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
(2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

We can not judge others with our tongues because of our men-added carnal commandments. The woman in the garden added a carnal commandment “neither shall ye touch it”. MANY are using their carnal commandments of men that are wrested out of the Scriptures as a basis for judging others with their tongues.

(3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

“Ye shall not surely die” is translated as “KILLING, you shall not die”….that is, “killing” another with our judgmental tongues (speaking evil of another), we shall not die. But there is NO “peace and safety” in using our tongues to judge others.

(4) And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

“for God doth know….” we are NOT doing God “service” in judging…speaking evil ….of others. We either DO His will or we are not.

We can NOT use our mouths both to bless God AND curse men. We are not as “gods”…that is, JUDGES. Men want to be seen as wise….being desirous of our own vain glory…and judge others with their tongues (the “woman” to the hidden man of the heart). The tongue….the “woman”…is the weaker vessel that we are to rule over and NOT speak evil of another. The tongue is in the transgression when we do not rule over what comes out of the mouth.

“ye shall be as GODS…knowing good and evil”. “GODS” = Elohim= JUDGES. But, there is only ONE Judge. There is only ONE Lawgiver. We are not judges for God knowing what is..or who is...good and evil...and then speak evil of them.

(5) For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The tongue defiles the man…the mortal body.

(6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

“ye are as GODS”….that is, JUDGES. But we are not as judges for there is only ONE Lawgiver who is able to save and to destroy. Why JUDGE another with the tongue by speaking evil of our brothers? We are not to be desirous to be seen as wise (knowing good and evil) and use our tongues to speak evil of another. We are NOT as “gods”…judges…for there is only ONE Judge of all of us.

We are not doing the Law of Christ who said to have love for one another when we judge others...speaking evil of them....calling them "evil doers". We can not use our mouths to say "Lord, Lord" and not do what He says to do as we judge others as evil doers.

Judge = "gods" = elohim

James 4:10-12 KJV
(10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
(11) Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
(12) There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another
?

We are not doing God “service” by “killing” others with our tongues. We call others “evil doers” as they do not keep our carnal commandments of men. Either make the fruit good or make it bad for there is no in-between.

John 16:1-3 KJV
(1) These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
(2) They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
(3) And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

Why behold the “mote” that is in our brother’s eye but not see the beam that is in our own eye? we can not be as "gods"...judges.

Luke 6:41-46 KJV
(41) And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
(42) Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

A good tree does not bring forth corrupt fruit neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. There is NO in-between situation.

(43) For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
(44) For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
(45) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Why call Him “Lord, Lord” and do not the things which He says to do? We can NOT bless God (Lord, Lord) AND curse men with the same mouth…for we shall die.

(46) And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

We can not bless God (Lord, Lord) and curse men with the same mouth. We shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven by doing so. We shall not enter into to know the mysteries of the kingdom if we do not DO the things He says to do. We are to have love for each other and not use our mouths for sin…speaking evil of another.

Matthew 7:21-23 KJV
(21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
(22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
(23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity
.

Blessed are those that DO His commandments so that they may have right to the tree of life….

Revelation 22:14-15 KJV
(14) Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

…but OUTSIDE are those who love and practice THE Lie….

(15) For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

We can NOT bless God and curse men with the SAME mouth. What a man sows, that he shall reap. If we sow to the flesh (envy and strife and hatred of one another), of the mortal flesh do we reap DECAY. We “age” until we die.

Galatians 6:7-10 KJV
(7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
(8) For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
(9) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
(10) As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

If we live after the flesh…behaving in envy and strife as we are desirous of vain glory (to be seen as wise), then we shall die. Our mortal bodies shall decay and we die.

Romans 8:11-14 KJV
(11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
(12) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
(13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
(14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Outside the understanding are those who do not DO His will.

Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
(22) And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

They do NOT understand as they will not DO His will as they sow after the flesh which brings forth decay of the mortal body and then death. They continue to till the ground from where they were once taken.

(23) Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
(24) So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Death and life are in the "power"...the hand...of the tongue and those that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. The "woman"..the tongue which is the weaker vessel...gives the fruit of death if we continue to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil as we judge others...speaking evil of others. There is no inbetween situation here....either make the tree good or bad.

P
roverbs 18:19-22 KJV
(19) A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
(20) A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
(21) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

(22) Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Hmm I was thinking if the last passage and how when a man speaks sweet words to his beloved that is a good thing. She will surely want to marry him!!!

Your title pulled me in but it seems you are going in another direction with this.
I thought you were going to do a study off of PROVERBS 18:21....
I enjoyed the post and wanted to at least let you know that.
have a blessed week end
Jim
