Days Of Noah

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by dUmPsTeR, Sep 12, 2014.

  1. What can we glean from the days of Noah in comparison to these present days?

    Matthew 24:37
But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

    Luke 17:26
And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man:

    1 Peter 3:20
who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

Are these days now far from the days of Noah, and what is the difference?
  2. Genesis 6:4New King James Version (NKJV)
4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Genesis 6:3New King James Version (NKJV)
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”

Genesis 6:5-6New King James Version (NKJV)
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

Let's look at things in context.
Matt 24:36. "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
Matt 24:37. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Matt 24:38. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,
Matt 24:39. and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

So, up until the end overtook mankind, they were indifferent to their sinfulness. Sounds like these days.

Gen 6:3. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years."
Gen 6:4. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
Gen 6:5. The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

I believe that in verse 3 we are told that the lord decreed that He would put an end to mankind after 120 years, (possibly after some preaching by Noah cf 1Pet 3:20. 2Pet 2:5.)
The Nephilim have no present day representation that I can see.

  4. So what about the Spirit of God Abiding with man, as in Gen 6:3?
  5. I take a more pragmatic notion of Jesus' words about Noah. The word of God says Noah was perfect, but the word used implies a genetic state. Look what we accomplish only living 70-90 years, so if they could live to be 900 a lot of evil can be made. So I believe they were messing around with genetics, something we too are doing now. The word of God says all flesh was corrupted, meaning in decay, ruined. Seeing what the pharmaceutical companies have done and are doing, playing with genetics, even human. Statistics say that if they had the same birth ratio we have today, by the time the flood happened, the earth would have had around 10 billion! Of them, 8 were saved. What better way to thumb one's nose at God than to mess with His creation and His "very good" creation, man. If you understand the rest of Gen 6, what happened was the fallen angels took wives and had giants. They thought they had it made. But God had other plans. They tried again and smaller giants were born. Today, who knows. All you have to do it realize what Hollywood of publishing to see it fits this idea of ruining God's creation through genetics. Look at the TV mini series Taken, by Spielberg to have it spelled out. I came to this conclusion BEFORE the movie came out. To me it was confirmation. Then you have Katy Perry's E.T. song which says in part:

    You're so hypnotizing
    Could you be the devil?
    Could you be an angel?
    Your touch magnetizing
    Feels like I am floating
    Leaves my body glowing

    They say, be afraid
    You're not like the others
    Futuristic lover
    Different DNA

    They don't understand you

    Kiss me, kiss me
Infect me with your love and
    Fill me with your poison
    Take me, take me
    Wanna be your victim
    Ready for abduction
    Boy, you're an alien
    Your touch so foreign
    It's supernatural

    You're so supersonic
    Wanna feel your powers
    Stun me with your laser
    Your kiss is cosmic
    Every move is magic

You're from a whole other world
    A different dimension

    You open my eyes
    And I'm ready to go
    Lead me into the light

Jude says the same thing about Sodom... they wanted "strange flesh". We quickly blame S&G for homosexual, but that's not what "strange" means, it's HETEROS not HOMO. Heteros means one not of the same nature, form, class, kind, different. But I'm sure it's easier to believe they wanted critters than demons, even though the devil has been on a mission since Gen 3:15. This isn't a crazy idea, it's the plan of the devil. He's been killing since Caine. Yes, it sounds totally bizarre, but it's in the scriptures if you look for it.

    Just my 2 cents.

  6. There's actually a lot of different/interesting insight... A lot of it is scary.... A few examples of some of my random musings on the subject... I won't claim any are inspired... just the meanderings of my brain - and worth every penny YOU paid for it.....

ALL flesh was polluting it's way on earth... This is a statement of the physical gene pool.... not the "Spiritual" sense... ALL flesh refers to animals and creeping things.....
-Notice how we are now meddling in Genetics... Changing around genes to suit our fancy.... We have NO idea what sort of long term consequences we are going to reap..... My fear is that nearly 100% of long term consequences of genetic manipulation will be Bad ones....

-If you follow the news - you will see that we are also not far away from Genetic manipulation on Humans.... The big question is... Are they "Human?" Do they have "Rights?" OR.. Are they simply "Possessions?" Note - the existing case law on genetically modified life is that it is the PROPERTY of the one holding the Patent.... That should give you pause - when you think of the consequence that a "Race" of created semi-humans could legally become Property of a Corporation or the Government....

-What about the Military and their desire to "Weaponize" humans through genetic manipulation.... We aren't far off....

-How about electronic communication directly into the Brain? This is WAY farther along than most people think.... There is a video on Youtube of one man controlling another man's ARM through the internet using brain-to-brain neural communication.... The concept behind the movie "avatar" is not far away....

The word for "Nephilim" in 6:4 is actually misspelled... The scribes call this a "defect" in the Hebrew script... They make a note of what it should be - but they don't change it in the actual "Received" text.... The actual specific word there is "Nephalm" - which means "Miscarriages".....
-Anybody here had to deal with infertility or with multiple miscarriages.... Anybody here willing to testify to the absurd lengths that couples will go to to have a baby? I saw a documentary on couples who will go through every single option - including other's semen, eggs, fertilized eggs, surrogates, and beyond.... I have absolutely NO doubt in my mind that if infertile or miscarrying couples had access to Angels (OR Demons) who promised a Baby - they would have children with the Angels and never look back.... Never mind the people who would line up to have a child with an "Angel" because they thought it was cool....

Have you noticed that the birthrates are continuing to go DOWN in many places due to a number of factors... There's a crisis brewing... Wanna bet that Satan is waiting in the wings for us to have a "Great" idea....

Violence and Murder - not only at the hands of Men, but at the hands of Beasts...
-We forget that the most "Murderous Beasts" on earth are not visible to the naked eye....

The scary part is that nearly every part of the mischief in the days of Noah is technically POSSIBLE now.... How long will it be until it all comes together into reality?

  7. Not sure what you are asking.
My understanding is that in Gen 2:7. the Lord God breathed some of the divine principle into man, such as to set him apart from the animals (which also have life).
The use by various versions of different words does not help. 'Adide', 'strive' different prepositions 'with' 'in'.
The Kjv and the Nkjv use the word 'strive' which comes from the hebrew word given Strongs number H1777 and is given the following definition:
A primitive root (compare H113); to rule; by implication to judge (as umpire); also to strive (as at law): - contend, execute (judgment), judge, minister judgment, plead (the cause), at strife, strive.
So verse 3 seems to be something other than the indwelling of the Spirit o God we talk about post Pentecost.
But as I said, not sure what you are asking.

As for the other facet of this discussion,
I believe Romans 1 has a lot of light to shed on Gen 6. and also on the nature of the Sodomites.
It seems significant to me that the word 'wives' and 'attractive' or 'fair' is used of the women born to men.
Wives implies a life long union and commitment.......something unusual to say the least for an immortal being to attempt with a mortal being.
We are told that we are created in the image of God.
We are not told that angels were created in the image of God.
Psa 8:5. tells us that we are created a little lower than the angels.

Now. when we look at the world and nature we see only purpose in creation (or design if you prefer).
With Rom 1 in mind, we see then that God does not endow creatures with bodily parts for which they have no use....Fish with prehensile tails for swinging through trees in rain Forests for example.
Similarly, if we could see angels, we should not expect them to have the ability, the desire or the plumbing necessary for procreation.
Now is there any real reason to assume that they have gender ie masculinity. Again Rom 1. where do we see that the Lord has created a male of any kind without providing a female compliment? Even as Adam was created male, the Lord soon provided a female compliment.
Can we really see the Lord creating a load of masculine angels and not providing feminine angels to keep them happy?
Yet Jesus tells us that the angels don't marry, nor as being immortal, would they have need of marriage.
Romans 1 teaches us that we can learn a lot about the Lord from looking at what He has created and I see nothing that points to angels that can or even would want to marry women and procreate with them.
I believe that the 'sons of God' in Gen 6:4 need not, should not be understood to be angels but rather men who had begun to call upon the LORD
Gen 4:26. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
It would be idle to suppose that from that point onward each and every human being called upon the name of the Lord. But those men who did would they not be called 'sons of God'?
Nor must these 'sons of God' be thought of as being angels because of Job 1 & 2.
Indeed, as beings who obeyed the Lord they were called the 'sons of God' as distinct from the Satan who though an angel was in transgression and hence no longer entitled to be called a son of God. Gabriel and Michael and any others went unmentioned specifically because they were/are obedient to the Lord and hence 'sons of God'.

  9. To clarify, I wonder what the Spirit of God did when abiding with man?

I actually think Gods Spirit works at different levels with man. As in someone filled with His Spirit, the Spirit was on him, and the Spirit moved him, etc. <Just a rough example.

So, from you posted, it looks like Gods Spirit was watching, judging, and attempting to guide?
  10. In some of my searching, I've encountered some that believe there was knowledge, back in Noah's day, that we have yet to understand. And some claim this knowledge came from what was called the Watchers, angels on earth imparting knowledge for forging metal, astronomy, etc.
I don't know if I believe all that, but it's something interesting to consider.
  11. The book of Enoch mentions all this.
  12. That is the way I understand it...yes.
  13. So was Noah's physicality perhaps untainted by all the crazy, sinfulness that abounded back then? Yet I thought one of his children, maybe Shem, had something funky going on.

Also, not to get too far off topic, the song lyrics remind me of how some say that very successful people in the music industry have some sort of sattanic influence.
  14. Thank you Calvin. I appreciate your time and attention to this. GBU
  15. Yes, I read a few chapters of Enoch, but I only got to chapter 4. I have seen a number of videos by those that have studied Enoch, the Word, and other writings. I'm not sure how credible it is, but it does make one think.

Also, I am thankful for your input, and I always read your responses, even though I might not reply.

P.S. If your ever near Naples Florida, we should go fishing.
  16. You got it buddy.
  17. I can't testify to the credibility of the book of Enoch either. There was a manuscript of it found with a manuscript of Isaiah that was genuine. I pray before I read from it, I've never read it in its entirety. It's an interesting read to say the least.

  18. Yes, Noah's line was the last pure line - perfect. It shows how long suffering God is. 10 billion and only 8 listened and survived. Ham sinned against his father yes, but that's another story.

  19. G'day dUmPsTeR, I have to wonder about the similarity between Noah's day and ours ( or the end times if it's not now) and the Spiritual battle going on. There's more credibilty to the Book of Enoch than we think imo. Have you noticed the "habitation" the Angels who sinned left in Jude 1:6 is the same habitation we will inherit at the resurrection in 2Cor 5:2 ie. a Spiritual body.
