Houstonian G.H.W. Bush birthed the peace-process, Dallasite G.W. Bush birthed the two-state plan, Houston floods & Texas catastrophes; Trump and Kushner peace push

    By Bill Koenig

    • The Kushner-Greenblatt-Powell Chronology in Middle East and Israel from August 20 to August 24, 2017
    • President Trump’s first national disaster
    • Harvey ‘came back to life’ after three and a half days as a remnant
    • Houston has been a ‘bulls-eye’ for major flooding catastrophes and no U.S. state has had more catastrophes than Texas since 1991
    • Houston resident President George H.W. Bush began the ‘land for peace process’ in Israel on October 30, 1991 and the two-state plan was birthed by Dallas resident George W. Bush on June 24, 2002.
To say the least, the timing of White House senior advisor Jared Kushner, Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt, and Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell meetings in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Egypt and Israel and the rapid reformation of Harvey when it looked like it was finished as a tropical threat was awe-inspiring (Harvey timeline below).

On Wednesday, August 23, the day that Jared Kushner, Jason Greenblatt and Dina Powell arrived in Jerusalem, after three and a half days of non-activity Harvey quickly became a tropical storm and within 48 hours a major record-setting Category 4 hurricane.

Much of Jared Kushner and his team’s schedule the week of August 20-24, especially the meetings in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were somewhat secretive. I had to review some of the Arab news websites to establish the schedule. The bottom line, Kushner’s week was focused on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. It was a serious effort on behalf of President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Harvey became a major record-setting Category 4 hurricane that pummeled southern Texas, Friday, August 25 at 10:00 pm CDT, and into the early hours Saturday morning. It continued to produce record rain totals through the southern and eastern parts of Texas and western Louisiana for five days. Harvey was the first major hurricane to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Wilma in 2005 (Catastrophe #57). It is said to be a “once-in-500-years-storm.”

Thursday, August 24 - Putting Skepticism on Hold, Abbas Backs US Peace Push in Kushner Meeting, Trump Committed - Times of Israel
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas set aside weeks of widespread and vocal pessimism over US peace efforts, saying that a deal with Israel is not impossible during a meeting with senior White House adviser Jared Kushner Thursday.

Meeting with Kushner and other US officials in Ramallah, Abbas expressed optimism that a deal could be reached, despite complaints from the PA in recent days over a lack of seriousness from the White House in its efforts to broker an elusive agreement.

“We know that this issue is difficult and complex, but nothing is impossible in the face of good efforts,” Abbas said during the parley with Kushner, according to official PA news outlet Wafa.

“We affirm that this delegation is working toward peace, and we are working with it to achieve soon what Trump called the ‘peace deal’,” Abbas said. In his remarks carried by Wafa, Kushner did not mention a two-state solution and only offered vague sentiments about peace in the future.

“President Trump is very optimistic and hopes for a better future for the Palestinian people and the Israeli people,” Kushner said.

“We hope they can work together and live together for many years and have a much better life,” he added.

Thursday, August 24: Report: Trump to present plan for reviving peace talks - Times of Israel

Palestinian officials believe that US President Donald Trump will lay out a plan in the coming months on reaching an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal as part of his administration’s efforts to revive peace talks between the sides, according to a Sunday report.

During a meeting in Ramallah Thursday, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Trump would present the plan in the next three to four months in exchange for the Palestinian leader abandoning efforts to pursue statehood in international bodies, the Israel Hayom daily reported Sunday, citing an unnamed Palestinian official.

The paper said Abbas agreed to Kushner’s proposal, but demanded that Trump personally commit to the US peace plan, setting a meeting between the two leaders during the UN General Assembly in September.

The US plan would include a set timetable for talks, which would focus on the so-called core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Palestinian official said.

    Hurricane Harvey by the Numbers

Sources: NHC, CNN, Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, KATC- TV

“I know for a fact this is the worst flood Houston has ever experienced,” Patrick Blood, National Weather Service meteorologist, told the Houston Chronicle Sunday morning, August 27.

“This disaster is going to be a landmark event,” said Brock Long, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, speaking to CNN’s “State of the Union.” He said he expects the agency to be working in the area for years as Texas recovers from the storm.

    • Harvey was still a named storm nearly 48 hours after landfall
    • Harvey had stalled inland over southeast Texas, resulting in catastrophic, record flooding.
    • Isolated rainfall totals from Harvey could be up to 50 inches by later in the week. National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist said rainfall totals will end up around 40 inches or more for Houston on average.
    • BSEE estimated the storm is halting about 22 percent of current oil production in the Gulf of Mexico, which produces about 1.75 million barrels of oil each day.
    • Likewise, about 23 percent of daily natural-gas production — about 748 million cubic feet per day — has been interrupted.
    • 99 tornado warnings since Harvey hit the Texas coast Friday night
    • Houston's George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports were closed until further notice on Sunday.
    • 316,000 customers have lost electricity, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
    • The Red Cross is serving about 130,000 meals a day.
    • CoreLogic, a global property information, analytics and data solutions provider, estimated before Hurricane Harvey came ashore that a Category 3 hurricane could produce reconstruction costs that could reach $39.6 billion.
    • President Donald Trump will travel to Texas on Tuesday, August 29

  2. Its worthwhile to remember that God has shown us several models of dealing with nations that go off the rails...

One of the most telling is the Tower of Babel in Genesis... God doesn't have to go mano a mano with nations to beat them into accomplishing His will.. Just throw them a curveball.... Tangle their hands up for a while and just let things fall apart.... You see this all through the old testament - where God simply distracts a nation who is causing trouble...

Sadly another one is to allow them to rot from the inside out because they don't understand the consequences their decisions ultimately bring (Jonah 4, Romans 1).
