Back To Basics Is Needed In The Body Of Christ

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by Fish Catcher Jim, Mar 3, 2015.

  1. If Christian Believers would get back to basics ( the written word of God ) and be united together in one accord we could make drastic and ever lasting changes in this day and age. That is all it is going to take to move God for He is always watching over His word and when His children speak and pray His word He is authorised and able to act on behalf of it.

This stuff of just saying what ever you want and bad mouthing everything and giving first place to the tv man has got to stop now. God and His word should be the First place in a believer and the Last place in a believers life and confession and beliefs or Faith. These religious beliefs that have been passed down generation after generation with in the body of Christ has crippled and limited the church.

Why can't we get back to what He has already given us to use and use it. Such as the following.....
    2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT
Then if MY people who are called by MY name will HUMBLE them selves and pray and seek MY Face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

This is a promise from God which is as VALID TODAY as it was the day it was written.
If we as His children would grow up and stop all this foolish denomination and doctrine fights and get back to basics...One God, One Savior, One Comforter which means ONE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD. We could actually be doing what His word says and not fighting over who is right and who is best.

I could simply keep going on and on with this for it is where my heart is. Scripture says where a mans heart is, there he is also.
Thank You again for all your time and effort
Have a very Blessed and Peaceful God Moving 2015

  2. For me it has been settled....the Word of God is final authority in my life and being that it is living and active, if i obey it regardless of my feelings, He will come through. I agree that all of it is for today! It doesn't matter what i feel, i need to be moved only by the Word. I guess that's what living by Faith is.

  3. You know some 6,000 years ago Adam and Eve (the first church) were kicked out of Paradise because they did not obey God and believed a lie.
And so it is today, 6,000 years later and Christianity still cannot simply obey and comply with the commandments of our Lord and God Jesus the Christ.
No matter how many times one quotes scriptures as to the true or the full gospel of salvation once delivered to the saints "believers" argue over it.
No that no longer applies! No that has been done away with! No that doesn't happen anymore! No the Scriptures don't mean that! No that hasn't happened to me, so it can't be necessary for salvation!
Until christians are able to fully submit to the Word of God and Jesus' commandments as to being true worshippers that are able to worship the Father in spirit and truth - then the great majority of christian believers are still outside the garden.
Unfortunately Jesus already knew this about humankind:
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:13-14
For many are called, but few are chosen. Matthew 22:14

It is best to believe the entire gospel as outlined by Jesus along with Acts and the Epistles.
The Spirit-filled Christian in a Spirit-filled Church with all the signs that Jesus said would identify believers and His church.

  4. Yes stop perverting the word of God and listening to false teachers!
Read the Bible for yourself and stop quibbling over it and going after false doctrines. It means what it says.

God gives grace to the HUMBLE and resists the proud!

The proud are those who argue over the word and keep saying they are right but they never act on their faith just spend time debating!! Gods word also say do not debate!

Ye must be born again! Jesus is always right and Jesus is best!

  5. This is what Jesus said - so why do 97% of "believers" refuse to accept it and haggle over its validity today:
    Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.
And Jesus is still confirming the Word today by these signs following them that believe.
Why do people chose to be deliberately disobedient and preach another gospel?

  6. My desire is to see all the Christian denominations agree on the basic things! That is, respect the other denomination.. Accept that everyone is saved.. It is so hard for one to say this is the universal truth.. In many cases, different groups with different beliefs have strong scriptural backup.. So it is not like they are claiming something blatantly.. I would like these different groups to look beyond the differences and rejoice on the basic things which would make us all brothers and sisters..

  7. I agree that they need to come to terms and back to the written word of God but it is going to take more then just the basic things agreed on. I mean it's the written word of God, how do you pick and choose what every one should agree on and what is ok to not agree on ?
I may have not understood corectly what you meant so if that is the case, well I am sorry about that.
Have a very blessed and peaceful day

  8. Brother I have been saying this for so long...Where is the integrity towards the Written word of God? We need to take the written word of God for what it is and not for what we feel it is.
You have to learn to gain spiritual understanding with in the written word of God for this human understanding and reasoning is not getting any one closer to the truth Hidden within His word.
  9. Absolutely no need to apologize! We are just sharing our opinions here.. That's all.. And I was just trying to post my observation.. Not that I was trying to debate or anything..

For example, in India we have a separate denomination for people who do not wear any jewelry.. They quote some verses from Paul for that.. Another denomination which says it is perfectly fine to wear jewelry.. And these 2 denominations call names at each other.. I would love to stop seeing such kind of divisions.. There are certain major areas of disagreement.. For those, it is hard to say one person is right and wrong.. It is better to understand that we all are from same body irrespective of such differences..

  10. Thank You Ravindran,
This goes rigtht along with how scriptures tells us if a believer feels that eating meat is wrong then we shouold refrain from eating meat when they around even if we believe it is ok.
Now I see your point and it makes perfect sense.
    Have a great day

  11. You cannot say that. You do not have the authority that Jesus has to determine who is saved and who is not.
To what extent Jesus determines the degree of compliance a "believer"needs to be obedient to His Word is for Jesus to determine.
Personally, I 'believe' that His standards of compliance and obedience are far more demanding than the broad acceptance that we give ourselves.
  12. Sadly, not everyone is saved.
The wheat and the tares grow together and really only Jesus ultimately knows who is really saved and who isnt as only he can see our hearts and the right to judge. But we do know he is not willing anyone to perish. So maybe our attitude to others who may look lost and not as spiritual to us is..we are all growing and just think of them as someone you are not willing to let perish?

Jesus way IS a narrow way and few are those that find it, if you are on his path and people walking alongside you that is great just keep walking and calling those who seem lost on the way side. As for people walking the other way of course you can say, hey, Im going Jesus way where are you going? if they want you to follow them, just resist and say the Lord is taking me this way you can come if you want but it is up to them. They need to hear from Jesus too.

We all need to fix our eyes on Jesus and not looking back like Lots wife.
  13. I'd say "back to basics" was always needed:

2 Cor 11:3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ

I grew up on a Bible college campus, and I was exposed to a very academic Christianity. I've had several jobs since working in mental health and disability, and I honestly think I learned more about being a Christian from believers with intellectual disabilities than from believers with seminary degrees.

  14. I think things like different areas of gifting are Gods design we do not all have the same gifts or functions and should not quarrel over this like one group says oh everyone should have the healing gift and if you dont you are not saved...or everyone ought to speak in tongues like us...or everyone ought to evangelise hard out. Is that what you mean Ravindran?

Also we growing and those gifts do take time to develop and use properly. So we ought not to judge if those things arent in evidence yet..if people arent showing fruit give them a year or two, there is no instant fruit. Like Jesus said dig in the manure...if still no fruit or its going rotten then maybe we have the right to say..well looks like they werent saved after all. And then take steps to remedy this.
  15. Lanolin Hello,
Yes Mam I do so agree,
We are all the body of Christ and some or the feet and some are the hands and mouth and so forth. We all have our piece in this and should be praying to find out what His purpose in us truly is. Then we need to join together united in Christ and get this saving Grace of God to all that we can find.
  16. I couldn't agree more. Speaking in tongues can be faked. In a 1995 study of 60 nonbelievers, 20% of them could pick up on "speaking in tongues" after listening to it for 60 seconds, and 70% of them could do it with coaching. I say this as someone who attends a church where speaking in tongues is done openly as a "sign": when I hear people talking about speaking in tongues as unequivocal evidence of salvation, I can't help but remember that about 70% of unbelievers can do it too.

I'm pretty sure I could speak it tongues if I wanted to. I'm pretty good with pattern recognition. But if I did, how would I know if it was from me, or from God? Not a rhetorical question, btw. Hope no one reads condescension anywhere, none is intended; these are just the things on my mind, the questions I ask myself, as I try to find a place with a group a believers who believe in speaking in tongues as a evidence of salvation.

Or to put it another way: perhaps I should set aside my own reasoning, and simply believe that tongues are a sign (i.e., simply believe the interpretations which infer that "sign" means "unequivocal, universal evidence"). But this is very difficult, because if someone speaks in tongues but has no evidence of a transformed life, it's hard for me to buy the "tongues" as legitimate, especially in churches where there is pressure for members to speak in tongues as "evidence" of being "in". Similarly, if someone demonstrates a transformed heart by the way they live but they don't speak in tongues, do I have any right to deny that their transformation is the work of the Spirit?

    1 Cor 1
Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

I understand why Greeks look for wisdom, because that's the worldview I was raised in, and it's a struggle to overcome that worldview to seek Christ. I'm not sure exactly why it was that the Jews wanted signs, but seeking signs can be problem more than a solution, according to 1 Cor 1. My goal, them, must be to continuously seek to see past the superficial in both "signs" and "wisdom" to observe the simplicity the foolish things in the world God has chosen to shame the elevated things (1 Cor 1:27).

So "signs" like tongues can be faked, to other people. Even a "transformed heart/life" can be faked, to other people. Only God knows the motives of our heart. For these reasons from scripture, I see no reason to seek signs, but simply to continuously seek the transformation of my own heart:

    I Cor 4:3-5
I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
  17. Speaking in Tongues is for praying in the Spirit and these folks who try to say it makes them christian are only fooling them selves.. It is power, or way that God created that the devil can NOT understand....That is the entire purpose for it. When you dont know what to prasy then pray in the spirit and praying in the spirit for periods of time alone with God can build up your faith and get answers etc....

  18. well, tongues are a sign to them that didn't believe...I suppose this is an issue that is contentious esp when there's pressure to do it in front of everyone in a church setting. This should not be.
If you simply ask God for this gift he will give to you, up to you whether you use it or not.
It is not meant to be used to bring confusion into the church or without any interpretation. I know many that have the gift and just as many that don't, or they haven't received it yet.

People can fake all sorts of things but obviously God can see they faking and is not impressed. So not sure who they trying to fool. As for signs and wonders...
Jesus says blessed are those who have NOT seen and believed.
Yet he does graciously give signs/evidences to doubting Thomases if they do ask.
