Anybody Else Want To Study The Book Of Daniel?

Discussion in 'Bible Study' started by Silk, Aug 14, 2014.

  1. I am Future, Pre trib, pre Mil

And so am I the same

Like I said I have no denominational affiliation

I have just had my nose in the Bible for a long time with a zeal for biblical Christianity .... the only truth on the earth

And I am a financial CFO for a business organization

  2. I appreciate your concern for me, Straighshot, but I am not here to "teach" or preach but rather to learn and understand the Truth/scripture. That is my only agenda. That and I love talking God. The only way I know to do this is by going chapter by chapter to build understanding. I do want to see all points of view and how they are arrived at.

I only post on this forum, in this way because, whether you consider it delusional or not, (I sometimes wonder/question this myself if I got this right or not), when I had a "conversation" with God, He told me to "find His people" in response to my constant refrain of "I don't understand". He mentioned "up north" which I took to mean the Internet. I googled Christian forums and this was the only forum that came up (as God is my witness). I have visited other forums to browse and only because I was invited. I have no "compulsion" to post elsewhere. And what I have found through here is very valueable to me. I admit it is somewhat selfish because I look for my understanding, not necessarily anyone else's.

  3. I believe in pre-trib, mid-trib and post-trib raptures, all according to the scriptures. I'll bet that's new :D

One can never go wrong by seeking and pursuing the Lord"s truth .... do not ever stop

And I do not consider anyone to be delusional .... this is a term that generally refers to one will mental derangement .... you will run on to the use of it by those who want to argue against your views on a Christian message board, but you should ignore them when they do this

Believe that when it comes to the study of the Bible prophets this will take time and dedication by those who engage in the study .... a very significant one for sure .... the bedrock of the Lord's word is built upon the foundation of the prophets and the apostles for many good reasons

So continue your seeking and never stop .... the adventure will keep you in the word and on the firing line .... this is where the Lord wants you to be

And do not believe everything you read or hear from other sources .... there are loads of theologies constructed by men who would take advantage

You have the Lord and His Bible .... all you really need .... stick to this and you cannot go wrong

Are there some who have substantially perfected the task?

There are .... the Lord did not give His word to promote confusion ... it can be understood

However there are not many around today and the list keeps getting shorter .... will He find much faith upon the earth at His next intervention ? .... He will not

Not new, but some what true

I would say certainly pre, no mid, and selective toward the end .... the Lord's two prophets and those who become believers during and are martyred

Please forgive me if I came across too forward. Your call name is Strightshot so maybe it will be accepted as constructive and not demeaning.

  8. Not a problem

I am a straight shooter and always go straight to the Lord's Word for truth .... there is no other way

No messing around ... if you know what I mean

  9. So... any other stray thoughts on Chapter 4?

  10. Well ok - I will reiterate that anything can be brought up and discussed/noted/commented on in the previous 4 chapters. Here's Chapt.5 (KJV - anyone is welcome to post other versions so we might see differences)

Dan 5:1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
Dan 5:2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Dan 5:3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
Dan 5:4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
Dan 5:5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
Dan 5:6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
Dan 5:7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Dan 5:8 Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
Dan 5:9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
Dan 5:10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
    Dan 5:11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
Dan 5:12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
Dan 5:13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
Dan 5:14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
Dan 5:15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
Dan 5:16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Dan 5:17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Dan 5:18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
Dan 5:19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
Dan 5:20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
Dan 5:21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
    Dan 5:22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
Dan 5:23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
Dan 5:24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
Dan 5:25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
Dan 5:26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
Dan 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
Dan 5:28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
Dan 5:29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Dan 5:30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
Dan 5:31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

  11. Just a quick note - notice the 2 Babylonian names: Belteshazzar (Daniel) Belshazzar (Neb's son).
    Does this have any meaning?

  12. 8
I certainly do and I love it like that.

  13. I have never heard of there being any correlation between the two.

  14. Belteshazzar = "lord of the straitened's treasure" - Daniel's Babylonian name...
Belshazzar = "Bel protect the king" - He's the king with the writing on the wall...

  15. There doesn't appear to be a meaning from Ab's post but the names, both given by the King, has only a "te" in the middle of Daniel's Babylonian name as any difference. What is Bel? And then what is shazzar? Erm and I don't understand what "lord of the straightened treasure" is supposed to mean. It almost looks like Neb named his son after Daniel. I guess I'm the only one puzzled?

  16. Bel or Baal
The supreme male divinity of the Phoenician and Canaanitish nations, as Ashtoreth was their supreme female divinity. Some suppose Baal to correspond to the sun and Ashtoreth to the moon; others that Baal was Jupiter and Ashtoreth Venus. There can be no doubt of the very high antiquity of the worship of Baal. It prevailed in the time of Moses among the Moabites and Midianites, Num_22:41, and through them spread to the Israelites. Num_25:3-18; Num_4:3.
In the times of the kings, it became the religion of the court and people of the ten tribes, 1Ki_16:31-33; 1Ki_18:19; 1Ki_18:22, and appears never to have been permanently abolished among them. 2Ki_17:16 Temples were erected to Baal in Judah, 1Ki_16:32 and he was worshipped with much ceremony. 1Ki_18:19; 1Ki_26-28; 2Ki_10:22. The attractiveness of this worship to the Jews undoubtedly grew out of its licentious character. We find this worship also in Phoenician colonies.
    Belteshazar
bel-tē̇ sh az´ar (בּלטשׁאצּר, bēlṭa'ccar Babylonian Balaṭ-sharuṣur “protect his life”; Dan_4:8): The Babylonian name given to Daniel (Dan_1:7; Dan_2:26; Dan_5:12). Not to be confounded with Belshazzar.
"lord of the straightened treasure" it should read "lord of the Straighten's treasure" this is what Daniel did “protect his life”

Major and Silk say Amen and like this.
  17. "lord of the Straighten's treasure" this is what Daniel did “protect his life”
another place says it means to " protect the treasure of Baal" which is beginning to make sense.

Definition: Belshazzar = Baal protect the king

  18. I suspected the Bel=Baal but didn't look it up. Come to think of it, that was a pretty nasty piece of work - renaming someone with a false god name. Think it was intentional? Do you the 3 other Babylonian names mean anything? What does the 4 youths Hebrew names mean? Tribe designations? Would all of royal, upper echelon Jewish nobility be all of the same tribe - Judah? Rofl (nevermind): Dan 1:6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. and Dan 1:7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

Could you do me small favor because I'm a lazy ole bat and often have my computer bible otherwise occupied? Leave out the underline dash so I can access the online bible for a quick look. I already deleted it in your post below. You can run the cursor over it and the online bible does a drop down with the verse. Thanks for future.

    Num 22:41 Num 25:3-18; Num 4:3 1Ki 16:31-33; 1Ki 18:19; 1Ki 18:22 1Ki 16:32 1Ki 18:19; 1Ki 26-28; 2Ki 10:22
