  1. Greetings all. So, I've heard about the word anointing. I thought I understood, but thinking it over, I don't. Can anyone please help me understand?

1.What is it and how does one know he/she is anointed?
2.How does one receive anointing, by having elders and pastors in church lay hands on you?

    Thanks in advance. :)
  2. Spiritual anointing has two meanings:
    1. Baptism of the Holy Spirit by fire, Luke 3:16, to bring about the fruits of the Spirit, 1 Cor 12.
    2. A special unction to perform a special task, 1 John 2:20
Physical anointing is to pour oil over one to be healed, James 5:14, or set apart, Exodus 25:6.

To which are you wishing to know more about?
  3. Spiritual. But I didn't know physical anointing is for healing! I thought that was when one gets prayed for concerning all our needs, not just healing.
  4. okay. Both, if you don't mind.
  5. I agree with the posts above in that annointing has various uses, the main one being the third of three Christian baptisms when the power of the Holy Ghost comes upon an individual for the work of God. This can either happen for them personally or by the laying on of hands by a gifted overseer in the Body of Christ.....hope this helps...
  6. Yes, thank you Christian. And thank you too abdicate. But what about the physical?
  7. Yes, like I said the annointing term is used in various way. The healing by the Spirit throught the elders of the is said to be annointing the individual with oil, symbolic of the annointing of the spirit to come upon the individual and heal them...
  8. Hmm. I see. I get it. Thanks.
  9. Thank you for the winner post, have to give God the glory. An evangelist guy I knew was staying in a hotel and a little child had drowned in the swimming pool without any noticing. You can imagine the screams and the horror but Dave, walked over, laid his hands on the child in the name of Jesus and she immediately came back to life!
  10. Have you received the baptism in the spirit Patricia?
  11. Yes I did. And I can speak in tongues, well not I but the Spirit.
  12. Superb, that's so nice to hear. Believe it or not I've still came across individuals who have said no and even said I didn't know we could be, so I always ask just in case!
  13. Wow really?
And you're welcome. I guess I should share my testimony on that thread. Nothing at all amazing like the ones you and someone else shared.
  14. @Patricia Dalmadge I'm in Europe so my days end long before the USA... so I wasn't ignoring you. I see you've received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (y) That's #1. #2 is the unction of the Spirit, the special movement prompting you to do something: prophesy, heal, be gracious to someone, speak a word of knowledge to someone, etc. Through the Holy Spirit you can know all things.

    1 John 2:20 (KJV)
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

#3 is part of #2 in that you follow the guidance of healing:

    James 5:14-15 (KJV)
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

    Mark 6:12-13 (KJV)
And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed [them].

The oil represents the Holy Spirit and is used in the priestly duties, Exodus 29:7. It's amazing too that in the natural, olive oil has great healing properties: helps the heart, reduces high cholesterol, is an antioxidant (helping cells), and it can help open wounds heal and disinfect it.

    I hope this helps.
  15. Yes, it does. Thanks Abdicate!
