  1. Alert: Central Florida

At approximately 3:30 AM EST February 02, severe tornadic thunderstorms moved through the central portion of Florida and has left a trail of complete devastation in some areas. Those counties affected are Lake, Volusia, Sumter, Orange, Osceola, Brevard, Polk and Marion and possibly adjacent counties to these as listed.

Initial reports indicate that more than 1500 homes are completely or partially destroyed throughout the area as well as many businesses and municipal buildings. As of this hour, Sheriff personnel are reporting 'significant' loss of life and injuries as well as power outages and water and gas mains being broken. The Florida Emergency Operations Center has been activated as well as EOC's in the Counties which have been affected. Intersate 4 between Lakeland and Orlando is closed in many areas due to debris and traffic crashes which have blocked the roadways.

Anyone who is still with power and internet connection, you are being advise by authorities to remain in your homes. The danger from traffic issues and downed live power lines is a predominant danger. Listen to your local Emergency Management Agencies for continuing information and updates.

Our prayers and best wishes are with all those who are in this affected area.
