8,000 Christians at Feast of Tabernacles

About 8,000 Christian friends of Israel from about 100 countries around the world, including the leaders of Evangelical Christian communities such as Allen Jackson, David Pawson, and Robert Stearns, are in Israel to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. The festival, which is sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem with assistance from the Ministry of Tourism, incorporates a program of seminars and teaching, as well as touring the country's Christian sites.

The thousands of pilgrims, from countries such as Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Austria, India, Italy, Nigeria, the United States and more, join in the traditional and colorful Jerusalem March on October 15. The festival participants are expected to contribute about 56,000 tourist nights in hotels around the country and income of approximately US $16–18 million.

Tourism Minister Ruhama Avraham-Balila said that "the arrival of thousands of Christians to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles with us is a tradition that we must use as a platform for increasing tourism from those countries which are not within the pilgrim framework. All those working in the tourism industry must ensure that every pilgrim who leaves Israel will become a good will ambassador for tourism to Israel. We must encourage them to adopt Israel as a vacation and leisure destination and recommend a visit to Israel to their friends and colleagues beyond their church communities."

Rejoice with Israel and all Christians over the great week of worship and festivities the Feast of Tabernacles provides.
