1 Kings 2:39-41 King James Version (KJV)

39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in Gath.

40 And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and was come again.

His listened to God’s word for a time, following God’s word should never have a time limit but often times when things do not go our way we end up going against God’s word. Gath was part of the Philistines area. Donkeys were commonly used for travel at this time. He would have been better to leave his servants in Gath and listen to the word. Solomon hears the news, he may have regret for what he has to do because of the oath he made to the Lord.
