1 Kings 1:8-9King James Version (KJV)

8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

8 However, neither the Priest SaDoc, nor BenaiJah (the son of JehoiAda), nor the Prophet Nathan, nor Semei, nor Resi, nor any of David's mighty men supported AdoniJah.
9 Then AdoniJah went to the Rock of ZoeLethi (near RogEl) to sacrifice sheep, calves, and lambs. And he called all his brothers, the king's servants, and all the adult men of Judah;

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

8 Zadok was a priest which often times God’s role on earth, they served God. Benaiah was David’s general which represented the military might. Nathan was the prophet so he was a spokesman for God. This shows that those that matter most had not given up on David. It shows that David did something to gain loyalty and that God still had David as king. Shimei and Rei were friends to David. When we are at our weakest we will see who are true friends are and David could see he had many. These might men may have very well been some of the same men that stayed with him while Saul was seeking to kill him.

9 Sacrifices were to be done by priests at this time is was not good for him to sacrifice this showed that he was going to reject God’s order of Levite service and set up a king ordained sacrifice system. He plan was also to turn those closest to David against him, his own sons and close servants. Go was still for David though and would show this.
