Default my moms isms

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

Then the twins
Any one who would steal for you would steal from you
Any one who would lie for you would lie to you.

You catch more flies with suger than with salt.

Truth ain't like horse shoes. Gettin close to it don't count.

If their talken about me at least their leaven somebody else alone.

And the one that struck fear into the hearts of us kids
Wait till your father gets home.

That brings back a lot of memories. I guess all our moms used to say the same thing.

Here's a couple more that jog my memory

Eat your carrots . It helps your eyesight.

Eat your crusts and you will get curly hair. ( never did get curly hair ) LOL

We had the carrot one also. The crust one was different for us, but probably because we all have naturally curly hair. That saying came from my grandfather who was a very hairy man and he would tell my mother to "eat your bread crusts so you can grow hair on your chest." As a little girl she never realized that girls aren't supposed to have hair on their chests like their daddy! But, the story gets passed down, so now we all know to eat our bread crusts to grow hair on our chests.

These are great!!!

The carrot one reminded me of...

"Here, eat this! It'll put hair on your chest!" OOPS - book beat me to it.

(never worked)

Then there was: "Quit staring! They might think you're in love with them!"

THIS ONE ALWAYS MADE ME LAUGH!!! I don't know why!

I think it's because one time Mom got it wrong and was saying: "This hurts you more than it does me!"

Just like Bugs Bunny. LOL

And the dreaded standby: "I got eyes in the back of my head!"

That was a joke in our family, laughing at "This hurts you more than it does me".....wonder if it was an accident???
LOL!!!
One neighbor lady used to ask the kids, Are you being 'hAve?", instead of "Are you behaving?".
