Starting Friday, February 02 and running into the mid part of the following week, the upper midwest of the US and south central Canada will be plunged back into winter reality with HIGH daytime temperatures ranging from 11 below zero F to 4 above zero F. The overnight lows will range from 24 below zero F to 7 below zero F and wind chill factors may hit 45 degrees below zero at times.

All persons living in these areas already know what to expect, but for travelers who are not accustomed to these brutal low temperatures, consult with your local mechanic before you venture into the region to make certain that your autos are set for this environment. Also, take a winter survival kit with you which includes food, water, blankets, gloves, a good shovel, windshield deicer, jumper cables, an extra battery for your cellphone, gas tank deicer ('Heat' is a good brand), and a travel plan that is written down for your relatives, so that they know where you are supposed to be each day. We also recommend a CB radio in your vehicle as a backup to a cellphone, especially if you are traveling on the Interstate Highway System.

For those persons who reside in this general area, go through your sub-zero weather checklist for food, heat, water pipe protection, emergency phone numbers and transportation readiness including gas tank deicer, a good fully charged auto battery, a full gas tank and proper pressure in your tires.
