Ruth 4:9-10 King James Version (KJV)
9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
Ruth 4:9-10 The Voice (VOICE)
Boaz (to the elders and all the people): 9 Every one of you have witnessed what happened here today. I secured the rights to everything that belonged to Elimelech and his sons, Mahlon and Chilion, from Naomi. 10 I have also taken responsibility for Ruth—the woman from Moab who was married to Mahlon. She will become my wife. I will see to it that his family and this city remember Mahlon. I will raise children who will bear his name and make sure his property stays in the family. You are all witnesses to this today.

9 So now he had a right to marry Ruth who is what he wanted to do but he had to do it the right way he had to become the kinsmen redeemer, Christ did this for us as we are the church.
10 Although this was done Ruth was never given up as his wife. Its tricky how it seen the child they would have would be seen as the heir of the Mahlon which the land would go to him and he would carry the name of Mahlon as he lived on the land.
