In section 5B of YouTube's terms of service, it says:

"Content is provided to you AS IS. You may access Content for your information and personal use solely as intended through the provided functionality of the Service and as permitted under these Terms of Service. You shall not download any Content unless you see a “download” or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content. You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content. YouTube and its licensors reserve all rights not expressly granted in and to the Service and the Content."

According to the above section of YouTube's T.O.S., videos on their site shouldn't be downloaded unless a download link of the video is provided.

I use TubeMate, a third party android software to download videos from YouTube.

Is this a sin?

Reading the T.O.S posted above, it is pretty clear....

although, ILLEGAL is entirely different from SIN.

and "Violation" does not necessarily mean "Illegal"...

say, a "Violation" of terms of service of Youtube, they can just ban you... but it does not follow it is "illegal"

I think what is "illegal" will involve the copyright... it is a law...

If it is illegal then it is an integrity issue. God desires that we obey, honor and respect the laws and/or terms of any "contract" that we enter into.
For me its just like going to a store with free wifi. We used to go sit outside of Lowe's because we could get a wifi signal, but then in reading the terms and conditions, i discovered that it says while shopping in our store. So now we only go to target, buy something small and then use the internet while in their store. I believe that this honors God. And that is the purpose of integrity...to honor God in all situations, regardless of what others are doing.

Pray about it because places like you tube put this up there so that they cannot be sued, by the people who upload the videos. Because there are people who are out there who will bootleg videos and then make money off of it.

Blessings!

I suppose if we are to look at it in terms of going against a permission, it is.

That said there are occasions where I do download.

A recent example was a video that I was advised was 3 hours long and I felt sure I was not going to get through in one visit and felt I might also want to "rewind" at times. I felt that trying to do this on YouTube itself would be impractical.

Other examples have been tunes I've wanted to slow down to learn. In these cases trying to do it on YouTube is impossible.

What I don't personally do is build up my own library of tunes or videos. Also, at least regards tunes, I'm not going into heavily commercial copyrighted stuff. I'm not sure it makes things any more "right" but in general, there is a more sort of "share the tunes" outlook when you are looking at material that either is traditional in origin or feels more traditional in nature.
