so He gave us this earth suit called a body and breathed life into it

Yes, and notice this scripture mentions being clothed with immortality at the first resurrection. Scripture cannot be more clear.

1 Cor 15:50-54 NIV I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

Why did Jesus say the girl is only a sleep ? They all knew she had died. Jesus also chased all the people of no faith and doubt and unbelief away and then spoke life back into the girl.
The sleep Jesus mentions is not your sleep that you think we sleep.

Because that's how Jesus described death, with the word sleep. Without the breath of life we only have death.

But the Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek. The Greek word for sleep is katheudó..http://biblehub.com/greek/2518.htm

The sleep of death is found in John 11:11, 1 Corinthians 11:30, 1 Corinthians 15:51, and 1 Thessalonians 4:14 and the Greek word for that is "koimao".

G2837
κοιμάω
koimaō
koy-mah'-o
From G2749; to put to sleep, that is, (passively or reflexively) to slumber; figuratively to decease: - (be a-, fall a-, fall on) sleep, be dead.

I almost forgot. If you're trying to prove that believer's spirits live on after death, you would have to prove the spirits of nonbelievers live on in a temporary hell. That is also not biblical. Hades is translated "grave".

Bummer as I was racing all I could think about is forum stuff. Ugggg
So put away the P.S and back online......

It means just that. You can be in the presence of the Lord and still be asleep. It's also speaking of the first resurrection in 2 Cor 5:10. Can you prove there is a temporary hell?

First and final warning; soul sleep is not to be discussed. Anyone bringing up the subject of soul sleep will be issued warnings as this is a prohibited topic of discussion in the forum rules.

Yes it is all biblical. The grave (Hades), also referred to as hell, which confuses a lot of people, is the place of containment for the dead outside of Christ. It will be done away with, and cast into the Lake of Fire.

More study for you, ATP!

The entire thread topic is a ruse to discuss soul sleep, IMHO.
