I thought I heard God, But?

I am hoping that even those that don't hear God might know that is not a good idea. Satan is much more sly than that though. He can quote scripture and get believers out of the plan of God real fast.

All things must line up with scripture, but not everything that is scriptural is God for us.

Kenneth Hagain thought it be nice if He started a prayer phone line where folks could call in for prayer. Sounded scriptural and a good idea. The Money situation started to go down hill though and He found out months later after seeking the Lord that the Lord never told him to start such a project.

A Pastor I worked with spent all kinds of money to start a christain drug program. I went with him to other programs and we checked out their success and what they did. Got tons of ideas and things that worked. It never set in my spirit right though.

Months later, after getting it all set up, nobody came, and no other agency would work with him. The other programs had lots of folks working with them from state and local drug rehabs.

I went to ask him one day after seeing him just come unglued........ I said, "Did God ever tell you to start a drug program?"

He said, I know it's the right thing to do and on my heart to do it........

I asked again......... "Did God, ever tell you to start a drug program?"

He said, "We are suppose to follow our heart, It's something I always wanted to do."

I asked again........... DID............ GOD........... Tell........ YOU.... TO.... START........... A........... DRUG.... PROGRAM?

He thought for a bit, and said, "No, I never heard God say exactly start a drug program."

I said, "well there is the answer to all that money you wasted and frustration."

Most often, if you read through scriptures like Naaham who wanted to wash in a different river or just have the man of God pray for his healing. God a lot of times sends us on directions we would have never thought of, or even want to do.

When something sounds good to me and scripture and something I would like to do.................... It's those things that you need to spend lots of prayer in.

The easy things are things I would never want to do. I hear God clearest there as I know it can't be the devil, and it sure would not be me.

One time God asked me to work in a country bar. I am a Christain, it's a bar, but worse of all, it's a country bar. I hate country music, can't stand it and it plays constantly at that bar.

I knew that was God as the devil sure does not want anointed believers in some bar he has control of. They hired me right away, got 3 born again, some more direction and God used me daily there. It was amazing despite a lot of crazy stuff that went on there.

One person I was sent there for, their grandma had been praying for years for him. It's just like God to answer prayer and send the workers.
I just wish it was not country music. It took grace to endure that.

I would suggest getting filled with the Holy Spirit......... His sheep HEAR His Voice and your suppose to be led by the Spirit of God. That is clear and difinitive Direction.
How did you know that God was talking to you? I want to personally talk to God, not just the things that are in the Bible. I tried today and last night, but it didn't go like I thought it would. I do think that God provided me with a dream though. The main point of the dream is that I put God over school (that's what I did in the dream. Then, this morning, even though I was running late to school, I decided to take some time to pray. We made it three minutes early! It was a miracle! Praise God!

How?

Your in school, you sound young. I talk with God pretty often. I ask something He tells me. Sometimes, He don't say a thing until later.
Through the years I have learned that He is never late, and even when it looks like it's to late, it ends up He gave me the info I needed at the time I needed.
So, being young, if you get ahold of how to Hear God, then you have it made.

I posted a link above, check it out.

Joh 10:27 kjva My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

I'll just tell you what I did. I did not always hear God, in fact I never Heard God for awhile because I did not know it was him. I had not learned what the good shepard sounded like being a new sheep.

First, faith hears God........... So always expect to be led in some way by the Holy Spirit and act on it.
Say to yourself, I am a sheep, I always hear God's voice perfectly and I am always quick to repsond to him. What He says, I do.

Take time to get God involved in everything......... Never feel sorry for yourself, never go to God out of fear. Just like you did for school, you took the time to seek God, and time with God, means less wasted time in real life.

Follow your conscience:

If you think those dishes need done before bed, then don't leave that on your conscience and put them off for later. Just do them. Always keep your conscience clear of all things. Violating your conscience will make you dull in hearing the Holy Spirit real quick.

Avoid things you question........ Should I listen to Christain metal? Should I not listen to it? Anything you question is out of faith, and sin. Don't talk yourself into violating your conscience. Keep it clear, what is OK for you might not be for others, and the other way around.

Be quick to hear during conversations............. The Holy Spirit will put that check in your heart before you say something stupid and hurtful............. Practice holding your tongue!!!! When you get that check.......... Stop, don't say the thing on your mind, no matter how the flesh wants to just say it. Doing this will show God you can hear more, as walking in love by the Holy Spirit is first priority.

If you get that "Check" in your heart before doing something, don't do it. Practice that.
I had a check one time about driving a car, but it was my father in laws and thought no big deal. Turns out his plate was expired and I got pulled over. It also turned out I ignored that check to look into my drivers licence, but never did. I thought it was fine, but it kept coming up in my mind.
Ignoring those two things cost me a night in Jail.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER try to get God to speak to you. He does not speak in our ears but inside. Doing so will get the wrong spirit talking to you. My mother is in a mental hospital today for doing that. Soon she was Hearing God about death and all kinds of things that were not God. God will speak when He is ready and you have shown that you respond to the gentle prompting of the Holy Spirit.

When God does speak to you........... You will always remember it, you will just know, it will be real cool.

God has to trust us to be led by the Holy Spirit. Keep your conscience clear, always look for those "Checks" in your heart before saying or doing something. Involve God in everything, even going to the store........ Just say, "I am going to the store, if there is anything I needed to know, get it across to me."

Part of trusting God is that He can get things across to us in a way we understand.

Did I mention the video link I posted above somewhere? It's all about this subject in great detail. He goes though situations and lots of scriptures.

I wish I could have liked 70 times over. I think God spoke to me through you. God has spoken to me through the ways you have said, and even more as well. I think he speaks to me through dreams as well. And yes, I am only 12 years old. I am trying to find out where God wants me to be.

I have lots to say. Rare a child your age wants to do the plan and will of God. I can't say anything, but stay respectful, obey your elders over you. Don't arguee or get in disagreements with other adults about spiritual things no matter how dumb they are........ (Lots of dumb ones to choose from) Be helpful, and if you keep silent, unless asked, you never will get the blame.

Watch the video....... Brother Keith talks about faith and all kinds of cool things about God. Very cool.

Juk, You have heard the voice of God and you are still hearing him. This is why you are here on this forum. You might not understand in what way you are hearing the Lord, but you are seeking him as treasure and as precious stones, and of gold. The Lord sees the intents of your heart. I guarantee, you will find everything you are seeking for.
Everyone who seeks finds, and every one who knocks the door will be opened for you into the mysteries of God and His kingdom. The Lord gives Wisdom and out of his mouth come knowledge and understanding. This Wisdom is more precious than gold and there will be nothing in your life that can be compare to her (Wisdom). Never stop in what you are desiring, for you will be filled with more than you could possible ask or dream for. The Lord your God is able to do exceeding abundantly more than you can ever ask or think, and he will do it according to his power that dwells within you, unto him be Glory which is Jesus Christ.

I asked God to give me the wisdom of Solomon (or at least like the wisdom of Solomon) back when I was reading the Books of Samuel. Or was it Chronicles? Or Kings? Anyway, I asked him, and I believe that he is going to give it to me. :)

I thought I heard God, But?

What happens when you think you Heard God on something, acted out on it, and things just don't pan out? Lots of believers today are wondering if what they heard was God, or just themselves when things don't go as planed.

Scripture says that who is led by the Spirit of God is the Son of God, and Jesus saying my sheep hear my voice. God is more than able to speak to us and get things across to us in a very clear many by the Holy Spirit.

Now, Millions of believers are natural led, and they call that God. I am not going to get into that, but just because your business failed 5 times is no indication the Lord does not want you in business. People feel that circumstances are the Lord leading them and have no concept of being led by the Holy Spirit. Just because you got in your car drunk, hit a tree and ended up in the Hospital where you wittnessed to someone and got them saved, does not mean God had any plans for you to drink, crash, and end up in the hospital.

What it does mean is God has mercy on Dumb people. Never be Natural led, NEVER. Just because a tornado wipes your house out is not God telling you to move to some other state. Millions of believers are out of God's will living their whole life by things that work and things that don't work. We need to hear and be led by the Holy Spirit, and ignore Natural circumstances.

Now there is a thought, that if God speaks to someone, then it always happens. Not true. God can say something to us, but that does not always mean we won't add to it or subtract from it, or jump ahead and try to make things work on our own. Abraham is a good example of this, and had him a Ishmale when He should have just waited on the Issacc.

Act 21:4 kjva And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

The Holy Spirit told Paul "DO NOT GO TO JERUSALEM"

Paul is a Holy Spirit Led believer, taught us about the gifts, taught on How to be led by the Holy Spirit. Yet, Paul blows this one big time. If the Spirit of God tells you not to do something, then DON'T DO IT!

Paul takes a ship, makes his way around some cities. He knows He has to go to Rome, but He just had to stop off in Jerusalem against what the Holy Spirit said. God gives Paul another chance to consider though. God is good that way when we don't turn the car around after being warned and continue heading toward the cliff.

Act 21:11-14 kjva 11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. 12 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. 13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. 14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

Paul had a personal conviction about his own people who he wanted so bad to know the Lord Jesus. Being a Jew Himself, His heart was broken for his own Kinsmen whom he used to be one with them. (Rom 9:1-5)

Now the Lord said, don't go to Jerusalem Paul. Not God's Plan Paul die there, not God's Plan Paul Go, Not God's plan Paul end up in Prison for as long as Paul did.

We can't make our own plans, no matter how good they seem and just expect things to work out later. We see that in Marriages, and a whole lot of others "GOOD" projects people start that the Lord never said start. Paul is thinking that if I die there, at least I can get some of my own saved. Paul was not even factoring in that He was suppose to be in Rome later, as far as Paul was concerned it could all end in Jerusalem.

I want you to notice something else. Paul is so misled and head strong about going to a place he is not suppose to go, that He is not hearing the Holy Spirit very well himself. God is sending other Spirit Filled believers to convince Paul not to go.

When we think a thing should be one way, and only one way, then it's hard to hear God about something completly different and better way. You might have 20 college degrees in a certain area, and feel it's that area you need to work in, whent the Lord really wants you to do something that is not even related to your degree's. You can't even hear God on something else, because wasting all that time and money on degrees can't even seem like a option.

In everything, we can't lean to our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge the Lord. That means, we are open to anything, despite any training we had in something else. Many are out of the will of God today, following old foundations they built themselves from the past. Let it go, follow God.

Paul went though a whole lot of suffering and wasted time by not obeying the Holy Spirit. Paul kind of knew Prison was coming because he mentioned it in Eph, but He did not have to go to prison. When in Prison Paul wrote some very important letters, so God still had Mercy and used Paul in the capacity, Paul could be used.

Two people hear God to meet situation:
Act 10:19-21 kjva 19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them. 21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

Now you may hear God perfectly, but things sometimes don't work out when God is counting on someone else to hear and do their part. We see that the great Apostle Paul flat out ignored direction from the Holy Spirit, missed all the people he would have ran into obeying the Holy Spirit.

God sent some men to go see Peter. Peter was told to meet them, God told the men to meet Peter. Everything worked out great, despite Peter Having issues with wanting to meet them, not wanting to eat any unclean thing. God had to fix that to get across the fact it was fine to meet with these men.

Now listen, a whole lot of our final directions, come from going and doing other things first. God many times has to build us up, teach us, so we can hear Him on the final thing.

So the Lord sent the men, and sent Peter to meet each other. What happens if the Men get off track and decide at the last moment not to meet Peter? If that happened, we suddenly don't get a chunk of Acts 11 Written.

This happens a lot though. God will want to use someone to help you, and give that person seed, but the person ends up not obeying God. So you go, and they don't show up, or they don't do what God said to do. Just like Paul did.

It does not mean you did not hear God. It just means the other parties are not obeying God and following through. God still has millions of other ways to help you, but God choose them to bless them.

So, just because you think you heard God and stepped out, and things don't work, does not mean you did not hear God. God is moving and prompting other people also on your behalf, and they don't always listen.

We never mention to anyone that is suppose to help, that they did not obey God. We keep quite. We don't pull on people, God is our source.

On the other hand if you think you heard God and things don't continue to work out month after month, then you have to admit that it was not God at all but just your idea.

There is a whole lot more to learn about these things. Stay encouraged, step out on things you believe are God, keep your conscience clear of all things.

Be blessed.
Interesting. That whole issue is as complicated as human beings. The hearing of God, hearing of self, others saying, "God told me to tell you..." Etc. And who can fully explain God's timing? People know how to make a mess of things, and God knows how to bring about His will in spite of us. Humans are so prideful and stubborn. And impatient. Me included. But...I am SOOOo glad that God is merciful, powerful, smart, creative, wise, and full of love.

Part of faith is asking God for Wisdom, and knowing that He gives wisdom to all men and holds not back anything. (James)

Jesus said, nothing was hide from us that shall not be manifested, neither anything kept secret that it shall not come abroad (Mark 4)

So, when asking, then Faith says I have the Answer, and God is more than able to make it clear to me when I need it.

Our issue is we want to know "RIGHT NOW" and God knows we need to know when the time comes. I suspect patience is a fruit we need to work on. God is faithful though.

During a court case the State was dragging me through for over a year, I prepared every day to fight the misdemenor, I had stacks of case examples to make ready my case. The State was in the Wrong.

When brought into court the judged asked me when I wanted my trial and if I wanted a partial jury. I told him a bench Trial would be fine, and just then I heard the Holy Spirit say......... Middle of Janrary.

I told the Judge I would like the trial on Jan 14........... It was Nov 2nd or something and the Judge asked me why so far out. I told him I was defending myself and needed time to prepare. The Judged ask the state if that was OK, and He said yes, that is fine.

Come Jan 14 I was set for trail, had worked on it all year, and was just trusting God I would have the right things to say.

GOD NEVER SAID ONE WORD ALL YEAR TO ME ABOUT ANYTHING CONCERNING THE TRIAL.

SO, I JUST PREPARED.

THEY CALL ME UP, AND I GET READY. THE STATE SAYS, YOUR HONOR, IN REGUARDS TO THE MO SUPREME COURTS DECISION YESTERDAY (JAN 13) THE STATE DROPS ALL CHARGES.

GOD HAD THIS WHOLE THING THE WHOLE TIME........ LAST DAY, LAST MOMENT, AND BAM IT'S FIXED.

... On the other hand if you think you heard God and things don't continue to work out month after month, then you have to admit that it was not God at all but just your idea.

There is a whole lot more to learn about these things....

In the course of seeking to understand why so many Christians that are seemingly productive citizens of the Kingdom of God can have so many diverse views, some time ago the LORD provided me with an answer. Not wanting to dismiss so many apparently Godly people as brazenly dishonest in their statements concerning the understandings they stated they had received from the LORD, I was bewildered as to how so many ostensibly faithful men could be so far off the mark in crucial matters of the faith.

I could not understand how someone could tell me he intently sought the Lord on an issue of critical importance, and that the LORD showed him thus and thus. In most of these cases, the 'finding' the person received was in direct opposition to what I had learned from the LORD. The issues at stake are enormous as they are related to salvation, our identity and standing in Christ, and
the immediate future of all believers.

While I came to the conclusion long ago that the "truth" the LORD showed me was mutually exclusive to the "truth" others had come to, I was having difficulty in seeing how men that I had previously admired could actually be intentionally lying when they said that they sought the LORD, and 'God showed me this...' In seeking my answer, God led me to a wonderful discovery in the writings of the prophet Ezekiel.

In chapter 14, we see that the LORD says to the prophet:

"Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I, the Lord, will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols. That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols." - Ezekiel 14:3,4

When Ezekiel says that when the people "cometh to the prophet" to seek the will of the Lord, they are inquiring of God through the authority of "the prophet" - who the New Testament tells us is JESUS CHRIST. For example, in the book of John we learn that when Jesus preached, the people said "Of a truth, this is the prophet." (John 7:40) Peter also said that Jesus fulfilled the prediction of a great prophet that would arise in Israel when he stated "A prophet shall the Lord God raise up unto you...." (Acts 7:37) There are many Scriptural texts proving that Jesus is "the prophet."

Ezekiel is told by the Lord that when "every man" comes to him to seek his will and they "setteth up idols" in their hearts, God will answer them "according to the multitude of his idols" (Ezekiel 14:3, 4). First we need to see that an "idol" that is in the heart can be anything that comes between the believer and God. Because idolatry is a concept (as opposed to a statue that one worships), we must realize that an idol can be any thought, belief, bible version, or even doctrine that we want to believe.

When God says he will answer the inquirer "according to" the idol, he is saying he will not tear down the false beliefs that exist in the hearts of the believers. Remember, the text says the believers are the ones that have "set up their idols in their heart" (Ezekiel 14:3) Thus, the Lord plainly states that he will give you the answer you've already decided you want!

This is a gigantic truth, and it is another area concerning God's attributes that is commonly distorted by the false teachers. Pastors and Christian writers commonly tell us that God never deceives people - yet the Scriptures tell us that God allows us to continue in the deceptions that we've ensnared ourselves in. The Bible says "the Lord knoweth how to...reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished" (II Peter 2:9).

In fact, the Apostle Paul plainly says that God will actually initiate deception when he writes that "God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie...because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (II Thessalonians 2:11,10).

And it is also God who chooses their delusions! "I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not" (Isaiah 66:4).

What we're seeing here should be frightening, because it is a scriptural proof text that indicates if we are not completely sold out to hearing the truth - regardless of how unsavory the truth may be - we are subject to be deceived. Furthermore, the very fact that this principle exists is tantamount to a prediction that there will be believers that think they are truly seeking the truth, but in actuality they have placed their idolatrous doctrines in their hearts, and are going before the LORD to ask him to validate the "idol" that is their false interpretation.

In the passage in Ezekiel, the Lord also refers to "the stumblingblock of their iniquity" as another obstacle to receiving the truth when seeking God. The text indicates that when the believer "putteth the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face" when he seeks the Lord on a matter, this too will cause the Lord to "set my face against that man...." (Ezekiel 14:8).

This aspect of the prophecy informs us that our iniquity produces a "stumblingblock." Although we see variations on the term with the Scriptures sometimes calling it a "stumblingstone," the idiom is not used much in the modern English vernacular. It might be useful to state that if we think of walking forward and tripping over a large stone that we did not see, we have a valid picture of what is being said. For example, I sojourn out in the country where it is completely pitch black at night. If I am walking around in total darkness and can't see a significant stone in my path, I'm likely to fall over it and be injured.

A stumblingblock is not intrinsically evil as the Scriptures state that Christ was to "the Jews a stumblingblock, and a rock of offense...." (I Corinthians 1:23) What we see in this amazing prophecy from Ezekiel is that it is our sin that keeps us from seeing things that we need to see. To put it another way, our iniquity is directly proportional to our spiritual blindness, and God will not just override that sin and force us to hear his truth. In order to get past this vulnerable condition, we must consistently demonstrate our willingness to receive the truth - in short, we must LOVE the TRUTH.

JESUS CHRIST
told us that HE is the truth - "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6) If we genuinely love the truth, then we will find it. Indeed, the very fact that there exists a multiplicity of "Christian traditions" is an indicator that something is dreadfully wrong. Thus, the idea that 'we can agree to disagree' is completely unscriptural on any matter concerning the faith. There is only one truth, and everything else is a lie.

This is an extraordinary perspective and it cuts like the proverbial two-edged sword. The idea of stumblingblocks is essentially synonymous with the New Testament concept of Strongholds. This is another way of describing a stumblingblock. A "Stronghold" is a place where someone or something may be defended. This term is commonly used as a military concept in the context of warfare - and the Bible frequently speaks of the war that is continuously occurring in the realm of the Spirit. In I Corinthians, we see,

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing [read idol] that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ...." (II Corinthians 10:3-5)

What this verse is so eloquently teaching us is that we are the ones that pull down the "Strongholds." We are the ones that seek out the "Stumblingblocks" in order achieve the victory in Christ. And we do these things, not in our power, but "through God" as we become "sanctified through the truth" (John 17:19). To be sanctified means to be set apart for glory, but for those that are not sanctified of God, "...the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness...." (Romans 1:18)

To put this into perspective, whenever we fail to fully embrace the truth, we allow the Devil to establish a Spiritual Stronghold that enters into our lives - and this is something that can eventually destroy us. When we refuse to see the truth that God wants us to see, that Stronghold becomes a Stumblingblock that causes us to stumble and fall further and further away from the will of the LORD. As this process continues, we are not abiding in the truth, and we then become subject to the wrath of God which is directed to all that "hold the truth in unrighteousness." (Romans 1:18). Essentially, when we say that we love him, and do not love the truth, we have become liars because he IS the truth.

Through Ezekiel, God says that he has allowed this situation to progress because "they are all estranged from me through their idols" (Ezekiel 14:5). God desires our fellowship - a fellowship that is true and unfeigned - not simply words, but deeds. God will hold all accountable, and the only way to ensure that we know him is to be found in him - in righteousness and in truth. "If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? For the time is come that the judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God?" (I Peter 4:18,17)

Every Child of God who has been born again of the incorruptible seed of the Word of God has had times when they thought they heard from the Lord, latter to find out it was not him, but their own desires. It is all apart of the growing process, and we learn from our mistakes. Practicing excising our spiritual senses is just like being a young child learning to walk, so that we fall less often. Being a Christian for almost 39 years, I have on several occasions changed in what I believed. Not that what I believed before was false, but I see much more clearly, and my understanding has increased in Wisdom as I have grown. Not every one is at the same level in their walk with the Lord, and there needs to be a willingness to over look those who are less informed, and speak or write in a way so that the Holy Spirit can enlightened them to see more clearly, after all we are one body, and members that effect each other as each part does it's job. We are all looking through a glass darkly, but once we become mature, and no longer a child will see clearly the ways and means of how the Lord moves and works through his Church.
While we are told to cast down imaginations, and to tear down fortresses and castles that are contrary to the Word of God, this is not a pleasant task, but it needs to be done. These fortresses and castles are that which has been built within the human mind that stops revelation to be given that would set free those who are in bondage. The traditions of man is the worst one by far as it sounds Holy and pure but it does nothing in furthering the Kingdom of God.

You have most of this right. An idol in the heart will get you to hear what you want to hear. We see evidence in Balaam as he kept asking God to go with them even after the Lord said no.

It's not that folks don't hear God to get this "IDOL" in the way.
Scripture says His sheep hear his voice, Those led by the Spirit of God are the Sons of God, The Holy Spirit will show us things to come, God is a rewarder of those that digilently seek him, God gives wisdom to everyone that ask and never holds it back.

So the Promlem is not geting the right answer the first time. The issue is overriding the answer given.

One reason questioning if something is good or not is bad, bad, bad.

Is Christain metal OK to listne to?

If you have to question something your about to allow and do, it's not faith, and anything done out of faith is sin and leads to bad things.

I hear God all the time, I have prophecy I have written down the wife pulled out the other day I forgot and she cheked off those things that have happened, and things to come. I write down what the Lord tells me.

Areas I watch are those things "I" want to do. I have known the Lord long enough to know that most things He tells me to do I never considered or even want to do.

So it's not that folks don't hear. Folks hear and override what they were told to start. They know............ they just igore and that Idol gets in the way.

I'm glad I love the truth. :)

It is so sad how many Christians are waiting around for an audible voice from God. No matter what your pastor is telling you, this is not how God speaks to us. Anyone who says he has conversations with God everyday js, at worst, lying to you, and at best, confused about where the thoughts in his head are coming from.. To be led by the Spirit isn't to hear an audible voice that directs your every move. The Holy Spirit renews us by the transforming of our mind, by the word of god, to become more like Christ. If you are sitting around expecting to hear God speak to you, you're misguided. Pick up your bible.. God HAS spoken to us. His word is powerful, and transforming. But he's not going to whisper new commands in your ear.

If that is the case than Jesus lied when he said, "my sheep hear my voice, and they follow me"
If the Spirit of God leads someone to go to a specific place like New York City to to say something to someone, you will not find that in the Bible.

1. To feel "led by God" is one thing, but to have a casual conversation with the almighty God where you're "hearing his voice" is a totally different thing. Do you not remember what God's voice sounded like to people according to scripture? The Israelites begged Him to stop talking to them from Mt. Sinai. Its described as the rushing of water, a massive blast of trumpets. God is holy.

2. Jesus speaks through his Word. His Word is preserved in scripture, and everything we need to be saved and to grow closer to God is available anytime, in the bible. Its about taking it seriously, meditating prayerfully on it, and FOLLOWING IT. Through it, the Holy Spirit changes us, and reveals the TRUTH about God. Jesus true sheep do hear His voice, His actual voice, not words that they put into His mouth..

For charismatics, this doesn't seem to be enough. They want to add to it. They want a unique experience. Read some books by some the puritans, or even Charles Spurgeon. They were not falsely claiming to "hear God's voice" or "speak in angel tongues", yet they had living relationships with the Lord like you have never seen.

I used to be a charismatic, always unsure if that thought was God or myself or a demon. Wondering why this speaking in tongues felt so fake, so empty, so pointless. Then I learned sound doctrine, grew in the true knowledge of God, and have grown closer to Him then I ever had been. Except now it's according to Gods actual revelation of Himself. The truth, not just some "feeling" or "voice". And, I learned how to properly worship, according to what he deserves, not just what feels good.

Christians all over seek signs, feelings or experiences. That is not something you can attribute to Charismatic Christians. You cannot lump spiritual immaturity in with a particular group. There is spiritual immaturity everywhere.

To the believer who has an intimate relationship with God, His voice is unmistakeable.

Hearing the voice of God has nothing to do with mans five physical senses. Jesus referred to his followers as having eyes, but they could not see, having ears, but not able to hear. Every single person whom Jesus spoke to had eyes, and ears. They all heard him in what he said, and they all saw him, but Jesus was not talking about their physical senses, but their spiritual senses. The senses of their hearts had grown hard, and callused because of sin. Hearing the voice of God can only be heard by the new re-birthed human spirit which has it own separate senses! The Apostle Paul said, "that only strong meat is given to those who by practice of use exercise their "senses" to discern between good and evil". How else can we hear his voice, or taste and see that the Lord is good, or even sense his presence?

Like you said,"how can I know when the Lord is speaking to me, or is it just my own mind telling me this"
The Word of God is the only thing that can be used to separate the soul from the spirit and those two from the body of flesh.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Without knowing the Word of God we will never know if what we are hearing is from God or just our self's. Guaranteed, I can tell you, God's voice can surely, and clearly be heard in man's heart. After all we have the "mind of Christ", and we are filled with the Spirit of God which are the thoughts of God. There is no reason not to hear the Voice of the Lord.

One thing I have run into.... When I think I know something about what God wants - I ask earnestly "If this is what you really want, open the door. If not - close the door."

If it really is - the door won't close... If it's not - the door will slam shut in your face and there's nothing you can do to get it open...

This especially includes things that require resources.... If it is God's - all of a sudden - the resources will appear as out of nowhere... If not - even the resources you have that would have covered it will just "Evaporate" in front of you...

Thanks
I like much of what you have written so far, but as someone who has lived the last fifty years following that still small voice, I believe the "open door,/closed door" policy of seeking confirmation is seriously flawed and smells far too much of the fatalism of non believers.
If you check scripture, you will find the opposite of open doors is frequently true.

God told the Israelites they had to enter the land of Canaan. Yet we only have to read scripture to see that the door was firmly closed by the giants in the land. Those who believed the open door/closed door direction finder were convinced that they should/could not enter the land! Only those who listened to God and rejected the closed door finally entered after kicking the door down.
The opposite is also true.
For simple minded believers who seek after open doors as a sign of God's will, Satan the master door keeper is always opening doors.
You can read a good example of this in Proverbs7 where a loose woman entices a simple man not only with an open door, but an open bed etc.
Only a fool falls for such simple direction finding, a method constantly used and referred to by unbelievers. "It was meant to be wasn't it." etc. all because the door was open for them.
Examples of the door being firmly closed to God's spoken directives is repeated constantly throughout the bible. Yet I can find little evidence of the apostles or prophets seeking guidance from the signs of merely open or closed doors
