What Our Pastor Is Preaching On

Tell me if this is in the wrong thread it is, if it is then I will move this thread. In our church our Pastor is preaching on the stages of maturity in Christianity. Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, then back to Child. What each of these stages mean is:

Infant: Questioning everything about Christianity. Yearns for answers regarding Christianity. His cry is "feed me!"
Child: Beginning to have a better understanding but his cry is "Help me, help me!"
Adolescent: Acting like a teenager in the faith. Having a good understanding. But his cry is "Show me! Show me!"
Adult: Having faith and a great knowledge of the faith and Bible. Being able to mentor Adolescents and beyond.
Child 2: Having the faith of a child. Being able to trust everything your parents are teaching you. As a child you are taught things from your parents pertaining to the Bible and you are a child, so you believe them easily. As you get older you're faith is decreased until you start getting closer with God. You begin to have doubts as an Adolescent. Being a child 2 is the highest stage you can get. It shows how much knowledge you have with God and it's almost like you have met him and talked with him physically because of how much trust you have put into him.

Well... in today's church, I don't trust anything anyone says because they're more interested in making a buck than spreading the truth. If I bought every sermon or DVD from everyone I like, I'd be broke.

2Pe 2:3 KJV - 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

I don't mind paying, but some of these people want $7 for every sermon, and that's the cheap guys. God says

Mat 10:8 KJV - 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

So while the stages may be accurate, being a child is towards God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit, not towards men!

Children are used as an example of humility in scripture. The greatest in heaven is the humblest. Making child 2 a humble Christian as opposed to humble and naïve (child 1).

But I would say every stage of a Christian needs to involve humility or there is no growth...whatsoever. God resists the proud.

First, we’ll have an eagerness to know the Savior. Jesus described Himself as the Good Shepherd, Bread of Life, and True Vine. He invites us to discover who He is in each aspect of His character. Complacency—resting on what we already know—has no place in the Christian life.

Second, we’ll demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the Lord. That dedication will have an enduring influence on our finances, workplace, friendships, and home. Building a close relationship with God is a lifelong pursuit with no shortcuts.

Third, our top priority will be knowing Christ and loving Him (Jer. 31:34; Mark 12:30). When He has first place in your heart, quiet times with the Lord will be sought after and precious. Our days will be structured around receiving and obeying instruction from Him. Prayer will be as much about listening to Him as about speaking.

Finally, any desire that interferes with or supersedes our fervent longing to know the Savior will be laid aside. Turning away from ungodliness and worldly pursuits will appear a small price to pay for the blessings of intimately walking with God. Over time, as we maintain both a strong desire and a firm commitment to know God, keep Him in first place, and replace our desires with His, our passion for Him will grow. Who do you see when you look in your spiritual mirror—an ardent believer or a lukewarm one?
