Buggy Situation

In short, sometimes I get an ant or house centipede problem where I am. To typically get rid of them you have to kill them. Here's the issue...... I really dont like purposely killing creatures. Its been a problem since I was a kid when I was learning the 10 commandments. Is killing bugs really a sin? One of my church elders said that Thou shall not kill pertains to all God's creatures and with the summer coming, I dont want some unwanted guests...

Thank you and be blessed.

The bible doesn't translate it very well.
I heard it is more "thou shalt not murder" than "thou shalt not kill".
Murdering animals and bugs also fall under this category.
It basically means not to torture, or create hateful feelings towards any creation that would lead to it's extinction.
There's lots of studies, indicating that murderers and killers often had a background killing/murdering animals or bugs as a child.

In your case you don't want to do it, but have to. That's the way it should be.
The moment you start taking pleasure in it, you probably should reconsider if what you are doing is good or not.

But regardless, unless there's a good reason, try not to kill any living creature.

To get rid of spiders, just destroy their net, and they will disappear by themselves.
The only bugs I find I have to kill are roaches and mosquitoes.

I don't Bible equating animals or birds at the same level as humans.. So it would not be right to apply the Word to animals..

I would say killing with a reason is fine.. Killing without reason will only disturb the natural balance.. For example, I am not a fan of hunting.. So many animal species are close to extinction because people want to kill for timepass..

I don't know. I mean insects are, after all, part of God’s creation and, as such, should be treated with a certain amount of respect. Right? Even Genesis 9:3 says Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. I mean it isnt killing for food or to protect one's self from a crime but for just plain extermination.

There is nothing wrong with killing an animal if you have to, especially if it is dangerous or hazardous to your health.

Now I believe you shouldn't kill things for the sake of killing itself, but if it means your survival, God is okay with it.

You shouldn't feel remorse if you happen to step on an ant. Animals were made to express the life that God gave them, and once they die, their job is done. There is no special relationship that God has with animals like he does with us, animals just express life, whereas we live life. Do you see the difference?

"Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.4 “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being" (Genesis 9:1-6).

6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind" (Genesis 9:7).

God demands an accounting for the blood of people because they were made in the image of God. Obviously that does not mean be cruel to creatures. We actually have authority to tell the ants to go so having that level of faith is what we should aspire to, but if you don't I would get rid of the ant problem another way.

Ants don't like cinnamon. It won't kill them but often it can divert them out of the house if placed in key areas.

There are probably other natural remedies if you look them up.
