A poverty-stricken father ostracised by his family and in-laws for changing his religion to marry his love allegedly killed his five-year-old polio-afflicted daughter because his penury made "it too difficult to take care of her".
Mohammed Irfan Ahmed, the 32-year-old father of four, strangled the girl, Khurana Begum, to death late on Tuesday night. And on Wednesday morning as preparations were on to bury her, police intervened after being tipped off by an anonymous caller. He was later taken into custody.
